Mrs.Manbearpig
Rory's not playing a stock kage is he? Would Nike be painting that for him?
GolfSpy WD
Doesn't TMag repaint everyone's shaft to look stock too? I can't see someone who hits it that hard playing the stock version. Maybe it's a tour version, like the v2 heads? @GolfSpy_WD
whiskey golf
There's no way that'd be stock, it's probably like an 70g or 80g shaft.
Matt Saternus
Rory has been an MRC guy for some time, so the idea of a move to the Kuro Kage isn't too crazy. Follow me on Twitter: @MattSaternus
03trdblack
The Kuro Kage Silver shares the same profile as shafts like the Diamana White and the Diamana S+ and those shafts are routinely used on the PGA tour. Seems logical he might like the Kuro Kage as it might offer a different feel or performance that works for him. Given his swing and the extreme low spin characteristics of the Covert Tour head, he might have needed to actually bump his spin rate up a little to maximize his distance or straighten out his shots more. My bag is a revolving door!
Matt Saternus
"Confirmed" by a Golf Digest (I think) tweet this morning that Rory is playing a Kuro Kage. Follow me on Twitter: @MattSaternus
Mr.Clean
This from TGC website... By Jonathan Wall, PGATOUR.COM Equipment Insider After doing some shaft testing at home in the weeks leadingup to the U.S. Open, Rory McIlroy switched to a Mitsubishi Rayon prototypethat's similar in look to the company's Kuro Kage Silver shaft. McIlroy had been using a Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana Prototype 70X in his10.5-degree Nike VR_S Covert Tour driver but decided to change shafts becausehe liked the higher ball flight and tighter shot dispersion. According to Mitsubishi Rayon reps, the shaft McIlroy's playing is one ofseveral prototypes the company has been working on over the past year as itdevelops the next generation of KURO KAGE profiles. While the prototype has the same color scheme and profile as the Kuro KageSilver that's currently available at retail — stiff tip and mid section, and softer butt section — McIlroy's shaft has TiNi Fiber Technology, a uniqueTitanium and Nickel alloy that was added to reinforce the graphite. When stressed, the fiber deforms and then recoversimmediately to its original shape. TiNi was used in the tip section of thecompany's Bassara G-Series and W-Series to promote launch and clubhead speedthrough impact.
