thought this might help... So I got emailed a promo code for 20% off of Elbow Revive. As I've said before on here, the stuff is a great anti-inflammatory and really the only thing that help get rid of my elbow tendonitis (medial and lateral). But I haven't had any issues with my elbows in months, so if anyone wants to use the discount feel free... prmo code: FRESH20. also free shipping I believe. Not sure if it can be used more than once but def worth a try if you have lingering elbow issues. Hope that helps!

I had tennis elbow, it got so bad I decided to have the surgery, the best decision I every made, my surgery arm is better than my good elbow. I tried everything, PT, arm band, drugs and even cortisone shots nothing helped and it got worse, I couldn't even show some new hand with out it hurting really bad, forget about grabbing something from the passenger seat in the car. All I can say is if it bothers you and doesn't go away go for the surgery. Easy recovery and not PT I was 100% in just over a month.

I am a candidate for the surgery and have been on mandatory rest from golf for the last two weeks. Going to be able to hit shots tomorrow for the first time since Memorial Day weekend.

I work on strengthening and range of motion so I've never had this problem. Also don't have a wristy swing- don't flex my wrist during golf swing = scooping or flipping.

Thing that sucks too with this is sometimes it's radiculopathy from your neck. I did have a bout of that after an mva

I had really bad tennis elbow several years ago and only got relief after I quit playing for about 18 months. I thought about surgery but after talking to my doctor wanted to do everything I could to get relief before I went that route.

I recently started having issues again after lifting weights regularly for several months. I've started using the Theraband Flexbar (http://www.thera-band.com/store/products.php?ProductID=20) after I read this NYT article: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/25/phys-ed-an-easy-fix-for-tennis-elbow/?_r=0

I just got the bar last week and everything I've read says it takes about 10-14 days to start working.

Therabar eccentrics are a good way to strengthen without taxing that tendon.

And having the bowed wrist is causing the aggravation? Because thinking about it, I definitely do that.

I've had issues with both golfer's elbow and tennis elbow in both arms.

I've also had some similar sorneess just below my knees.

So For a right handed golfer: How golfers and tennis elbow can occur.

Right tennis elbow: when you go back bowing your left wrist causes your right wrist to extend further, this leads to overuse (vs trauma) injury. Especially if you use your right wrist to set your wrist angle in the backswing.

Left tennis elbow: If you your left wrist extensors (muscles produce a "cupped" wrist) are weak and you are a person who locks there left elbow, when you come in to contact and hit the turf a lot of strain goes to that tendon insertion at the epicondyle. You can simillarily tax that tendon if you flick your left wrist or use it to scoop. You may also look at your grip, if you are someone with a weak left hand you are more succeptable to this injury or another wrist injury.

Right golfers elbow: though not as common as tennis elbow, it affects the trail arm for golfers. It can unfortunately be caused just from a lot of golf  where the trail arm under goes stress and repeated rotation. If you are someone who has a lot of forearm rotation this comes on from overuse. If you scoop or flip with your right arm or trail arm you are taxing that tendon.

Left golfers elbow : for a right handed golfer is very rare, but much like a cupped wrist you can over use your wrist flexors from bowing in the backswing, again from repeated stress.

- Most of the time you see golfers elbow in people who work out or are returning to working out. When they do pulling exercises: rows, pull ups/ chin ups, or biceps curls- to compensate for weaker musculature and maybe too much weight or stress than they are ready for, people flex or bow their wrists to help and that leads to stress on the wrist flexor tendons. Ive been through this.

If you can work on stretching appropriately and getting a functional exercise program or some instruction, you can avoid these annoying injuries.

Wow THANKS for those links!!

Got two different exercises from two different people - my chiropractor gave me a rotational twist; an orthopedist showed me to take a hammer and flex / extend the wrist with the hand held out.

The exercise with the Flexbar combines _both_ into a single more functional movement. Ordered one off Amazon!!!

Had first case ever of tennis elbow - with no idea what brought it on - and it was BAD for several weeks ... my elbow and forearm still sore and weak after several more weeks.

Do exercises to stretch and strengthen the wrists and forearms but can see am gonna be a "devotee" of that Flexbar ;-)

OK -- received the Flexbar, which came packaged with an instruction sheet illustrating TWO different exercises...

1. Tennis elbow

and,

2. Golfers elbow

Here's a pic showing the two:

They suggest "2-3 sets of 10-15 repetitions, 3 times/week."

  • 2 weeks later...

This video was a game changer for me.

I was battling left elbow pain for a long time. It took me a while to realize it was technique related - I just got tired of popping in Aleeve.
