Course Recommendation

Mike Z

Recommended Posts

I will be in the Leesburg, VA area this weekend and looking to play Sunday assuming the remnants of Matthew don't make this impossible.

I will be playing with two other people who don't play as much as I do.  That's another way of saying that I think we are looking for something a step down from a "championship" course and reasonably priced.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

If you have a car take a short trip to Pete Dye Golf Course.  Great Track

My first thought was the Westpark GC, just south of Leesburg.  Its not too difficult, nor too expensive.  The only other public course in Leesburg is Raspberry Falls, just to the north.  Its at the other end of the spectrum, fairly expensive, and fairly tough.

My cousin is the Super at Raspberry. Nice course but on the expensive side for sure. Worth a play though if you ever get the chance.

Thanks all for the suggestions.  West Park is probably what we are looking for.  Unfortunately they are showing no times available.  Raspberry looks beautiful and it was on my list before I got "paired" with some of mt girlfriend's family.  Great people, but one of them plays once or twice a year, loves golf, but does not belong on a difficult course on a Sunday.

If there are other suggestions within about a half hour drive I am open to them.

OK, here are a few more.  Poolesville is across the river in MD, you could get there on White's Ferry.  Little Bennett and the PB Dye Club, and Whiskey Creek are a little further away, generally east to southeast of Frederick, MD.  Locust Hill is just west of Charlestown, WV.  Blue Ridge Shadows, Shenandoah Valley and Bowling Green are located generally southeast of Winchester, VA.  Of all of those, I'd say that the least demanding ones are Poolesville, Locust Hill, Shenandoah Valley, and Bowling Green.  I'm not sure about the drive times, but those are at least a few to look into.

I left out a few that are closer to DC, mostly because the demand will be pretty high.  You could still check them out, Brambleton, Algonkian Regional Park, Reston National, 1757 Club, even the 18-hole par 3 course in Sterling Park.  Good luck!
