Mr. Mushball reacted to chisag in 2023 MGS Forum: Cobra 50th Anniversary Special!
... This is called "Burying The Lede". 😇  But here are my thoughts about this most awesome Cobra challenge:

    1. I am playing the best golf I have played in years and the challenge is playing a big role in this recent run.

    2. Pushed a tee shot with a slight fade into another fairway but had a clear shot through the trees to get it back in play. Then did it again on the back 9 and had a clear shot to the green. 2 worst drives both ended up with birdies. I hit every other fairway and a few really long drives for me. The Aerojet can be seriously long.

    3. I can't hit a fairway wood off the fairway and better than these Aerojets. TM Sim2 is longer off the tee by a little but from the fairway I have never hit the ball as well as I have with these Cobra's. 486yd par 5 uphill and on in two with my 5 wood.

    4. I still don't like the wedges. 🙄  Thankfully I seem to be in the minority as most everyone else loves theirs. Whew!

... So now the lead: I tied my career best round with a 66 today. Ya know how we say "I left a few shots out there or the score could be lower?" I didn't do that. I had a 25' eagle putt on 17 and a 15 foot birdie putt on 18 that just missed on the high side and curled around the hole, but I would not call either of those "should have made puts". Had I made either I would have shot a 65 and my career low round. Other than that, I hit most everything about as well as I can. But there is the catch. I played the forward tees or the Senior tees and although I am 70 they are about 600yds shorter than the tees I normally play. But oh my what fun it was from 5759 yards!!! One of my pards today asked "You hit it farther than I do, so why are you playing the senior tees?" and my reply was "You should see where CFredo 🤡  plays from!"

... After shooting two 70's I was excited to enter my 66 in the VT ... but after course calculations with my 1.3 handicap the course rating is -4 ... so for the purpose of this challenge using the VT scoring ... I shot another 70! 🤣

I backed off my irons.  Rather that trying to stretch a club into the yardage, I made a concerted effort to pull back to the yardage.  12 greens hit, and  4 up and downs. Kinda tells the story right there.  Two birdies, one bogey, one double (pulled 7 iron. Hit side slope of green and kicked into the water hazard).
Here is one of the birdies.  Note the beautiful MacGregor... 7 iron 155 into the wind... nice and smooth (I made the putt).

Had another good putting round with the Ultimate over the weekend.  Only 27 putts, which anything below 30, I'm extremely happy about.  🙂   Helped that my short game was on point, so a lot of close pitches & chips for one putts.  Just wish I can hit more greens & be closer to the hole because my "Proximity to hole" is what is keeping me from scoring better.  Odds aren't good of making birdie when you're leaving yourself 20+ feet every time.  Also, it rained for a good bit of the round, not a downpour, but a constant rain.  Add that to my "sweating like a ***** in church" perspiration & I usually have a slick putter grip.  That's why I add Tourna Grip to most of my putters.  Haven't had to do that as of yet with the Ultimate .... the tackiness has stayed intact, even though it has been really wet.  Yet another +++ for these grips.  👍

A little drop off in scores posted.  I blame the hot weather outdoors (especially in the southern states!!).
I'm confident we will be back up above 100 scores posted in the coming weeks of summer!! 🙂  Especially with the Cobra Challenges underway.  Don't know what I'm talking about???  Click here and join in on the banter and fun!!

    Low Net Score

Evidently competing against himself this week... the Lowest Net Score of the week goes to:
@J7Hawkins with his Net 60 (-10... same score Rickie shot on Saturday at the Travelers 🙂 ) playing at Stillwater Country Club.  Just one shot behind at -9 were @J7Hawkins, @Richie_TB and @Richie_TB (who was also competing against himself this week, but couldn't defeat him 😉 ).  Seriously though... I really appreciate all the scores posted, and as you can see by looking down the leaderboard... posting multiple scores is A-OK 🙂.  Congratulations J7H... Great playing (5 separate scores under net par) and this week we have 30 scores under net par.  Competitive Group!!

    Most Birdies or Better

As happens... the lowest net score also holds the low net birdies, but since we like to share the badges... and J7H is already wearing this week's MGS Forum Black Jacket... His three leading birdie counts will take a back seat to the next in line... or should I say ... the next two in line.. We have a tie for the Birdie Badge:
@fredsharky and @Stereotype both posted 10 net birdies or better and will each have the Birdie Badge Honor this week.  Nice rounds guys!!

    Longest Drive

This is where I need to get my excel skills working... there are so many 295+ yard drives every week, it is easy to miss which one is farthest as I work to pick my jaw up off the floor...
And this week a familiar LD Member has topped the list.  @Bohnson with a 367 yard BOMB at CCN (who by the way shot two under gross for his net even par round... yeah... you can do the math on that one!!)  I should add that Mr. Bohnson also has 3 of the top 4 drives this week, but @Javs snuck into the #2 spot with his 343 yard drive. Great drives to everyone on the list below:

Now I will silently walk away with my hat in my hand, and my tail between my legs and work to convince myself that "220 and a cloud of dust" is something to be proud of... haha.

    Thanks again everyone, and remember
STAY HYDRATED when you are out posting those low rounds, sinking those birdie and eagle putts, and BOMBING those long drives.
    On to Week 13!

As others have said already they are comparably priced to those of other OEMs.  If you buy them online you could get all three, keep the max and the ultimate and sell the other one to a friend at a bargain price for him and pay less for the max and ultimate than you would for any other premium grip.

I did get to the putting green a couple of times this week and worked through my issues - it doesn't help that when I watch on TV the guys seem to be standing much farther away from the ball than I do when I putt.  I need to remember that regardless of what I see I need to feel as if my eyes are directly over the ball to putt well and I do best with a slightly open stance, like I'm shooting a free throw or playing darts.  May not be the ideal technique but I don't have the time to change at this point and it works well enough for me.

Two great scores this week at the top of our leaderboard:
@Placasse61 and  @buckpillar came out hot this week, both carding Net 10 under (-10) rounds.
@Placasse61 shot a Gross 85/Net 61 at New England CC and @buckpillar shot Gross 67/Net 60 at Nemacolin Woodlands.      Great Playing to both, and Congrats on each winning this week's MGS Forum Member VCT Black Jacket Badge!

    Most Net Birdies or Better

We have A FLOCK of leaders in the net birdies or better category this week!
Our two best scores above both carded 10 net birdies, but since they are busy showing off the Black Jacket Badge this week...
@tchat07 and @Mr. Mushball will receive the VCT Birdie Badge for their equally impressive 10 net birdies or better during the past week of play!  Wear the badge proudly!

    Longest Drive

This week's longest drive belongs to someone that will not be a stranger to sporting the LD badge I'm sure:
@CB Lobo 4 Life pounded a 360 yard drive at Snowflake Municipal... Congratulations Lobo!
I continue to be in awe of the power in our VCT (see full list of 295+ yard drives this week below):

The vast majority of a practice session should be with a high lofter iron or possibly a mid iron. 8,7,6 irons would be best, pw or 9’woudnt hurt and 80% of practice should be with backswing no further than lead arm parallel.
Should be 5 drill swings and a full swing.

Driver should be a few swings to see if the swing work is translating to the driver.
Tbh you would probably be better off in your journey by taking lessons vice the go it alone route. However if the go it alone route is the preferred choice then using something like Monte’s efficient swing, not turn cast and boom force in that order or two of the three would be a lot better route than your current path.
I want to see you get better.

So played in league again tonight and we finished +1 (net -3). Overall I was able to hit some really solid shots with most of the clubs in my bag. Missed three 14+ foot birdie putts by a total of probably 7”, really would have liked to have those but oh well.
Worked briefly on the range trying to feel not lifting my hands so high in the backswing and working AROUND my body and not working upwards to try and come from the inside more. Had some horrendous misses with my driver doing this, but also hit a really nice baby draw on a par 5 that went about 270. So I know I can do it, I just need to ingrain the feel. Got to hit my 7 wood once and absolutely pured it, but it got hung up in the wind and I ended up being about 10 yards short on a 215 yard pin. It’s so easy to hit and the ball flight is just beautiful. That club will be a weapon attacking greens on par 5s if I can get my driver sorted out. One thing I am slightly disappointed in is the finish on one of my SB Black wedges. I just unwrapped the 56° today and already noticed that on the toe the black finish doesn’t look like it was applied to one spot. It is not scuffed, so maybe just missed during finishing. It is a small mark, and clubs get scuffed up, so it is what it is. Just was surprised to see that. Also noticing bag chatter from my AJ irons is leaving marks on the black wedges. I may try to rearrange my bag to help prevent it, but it’s somewhat hard to do as I don’t want them by my woods clanking on the shafts. Again, tools not jewels, they just look SO DAMN GOOD lol.
Range session tomorrow to continue trying to work on my new feel path, and using the R10 to get some club data. I’ll be specifically looking at path and face to path to keep trying to work on improving that.

Another week of great golf played by MyGolfSpy members!  All I can say is I'm glad I played well LAST season as everyone is playing great in season two!
It's great seeing people participating from all over the country and the world.   With everything that's happening within the US and around the world, maybe golf is the one thing that could unify us all!   No more wars, just match play to calm everything down and resolve conflicts.  Forget a music theme, maybe the movie Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (released 34 years ago...really) should have been "Arnie & Jack's Excellent Golf Round"!

Played a tournament round with the Ultimate yesterday and it was amazing.  Best putting I've done in a while, even with getting sloppy on the back 9.  The grip continues to be a reinforcement of using a good setup.  By the way that I hold it I can tell if I'm square to my target better than just using my eyes.  This is by using the seam in the back to feel a line that is parallel to my putter face, which helps me see my starting line better.  The grip feels like it's part of my hands, so I can easily just swing without feeling wristy.  I ended up with 15 on the front 9 and 22 on the back.  A total of 37, compared to my normal 42-46.  The back 9 is easily explained by my aiming fluid reservoir being overfilled by the beverage cart.  They shouldn't be allowed to pour doubles, it leads to triples.

I do want to get to testing the other two grips that Garsen sent each of us, but only have one putter to use currently.  I do want to try some additional grip styles with this putter first before moving on.  I have only played with a standard grip so haven't put any into my play rotation yet.  I'll have more time the next few months to be able to get practice area time and try some things out.  And, I'll have a better comparison for the other grips that way as well.

Suggestion to try out while waiting... stand behind your ball, take a sighting to the hole, make a preliminary guess as to the slope reading .. then when you can walk in step up and make your AP read...
See if your feet confirm or refute your initial read (but go with your feet, assuming you're committed to AimPoint).

Now that my review for the MAX has posted, I have moved on to testing the Ultimate. Coincidentally, I picked up an Odyssey Tour Line Eleven and decided to add it into the rotation of putters I’m using for the putting mat portion of the testing.
After using it for a couple of sessions, I came to the conclusion that the OEM grip had to go. Not the least of the reasons was that it was installed crookedly.
So given that I’m on to the Ultimate, the logical next step was to…
    …Add an ultimate grip.
This will also allow me to do some comparative testing between the mid-mallet Rossie and the full mallet Tour Line Eleven. Stay tuned…

Played in my usual Tues league & the putter performed well.  What I really like about the grip is that I can really be comfortable holding the putter without having to squeeze the hell out of it.  My hands feel like they are barely on the grip, which is great, because it enhances my feel of the putt.  I finally got the speed down on the greens & didn't have a 3-putt.  (I heard they are going to roll them by next week, so that may not last long)  I did miss a few short ones, but that was user error & not the putters fault.  My aim is off a bit but the grip can't help with that. 🤣   I'm not getting the tear marks at the end of the grip like some, but I still don't like the end of the grip with the cap.  Guess the cap was put there to protect the end of the grip itself from tearing while going in & out of the bag, but it does cut into my hand a bit.  So I just choke down ... still works.
