Went to the Dallas Golf expo today with the kiddo and had a good time.
Spent more money than planned though. First I stumbled across a booth selling the 21 TP5/TP5x balls 2 for $70 but I noticed 3 dozen 24 TP5 Pix sitting in the back. Grabbed them and asked if these are 2 for $70 as well and they said yes so couldn’t turn that deal down.
The kiddo really found this putter grip so got it for him. It’s a cool design and the matching ball marker the magnets to the top is a great idea.

Also came across the Putt Master Putting Trainer. I will use it myself but mainly wanted it for the kiddo to give him the feel of not just flipping his hands for putts and chips. They had it at the show for $40 but recently partnered with orange whip and will be in all retail stores that carry orange whip soon and will probably be $60 to $65 retail. So had to snag it. Will also be changing the color to orange.

Finally after my kiddo egging me on and the fact it was green one of my favorite colors I got a vivid golf range finder as they had it for $130 instead of the normal $240 on their site. In the venue I was a little worried about lens glare with all the lights but it was locking on quickly with scanning different things and looked through it really quick outside when leaving and looked good.
so the lesson of the day is don’t take your kid with you to a golf expo because he was not help convincing me out of buying things and if anything was on the salesman side 🤣.

Went to the Dallas Golf expo and Vivid Golf   has a 50% off code for the show GOLFSHOW50. They had some quality looking clothing and golf bags. I grabbed their range finder on a show deal they had going. The code expires on 3/31.

Dicks has a good deal on balls from several manufacturers. I just did the buy 3 get one deal on the 2024 TP5. My son needed a stash for his upcoming season and I figured I could do an informal test on a dozen as well to follow along with the current test group.
They also have the Maxfli buy 3 and I think the Callaway as well.

Have a new set of heads that's I will be getting. Stunt be coming till the fall though. More details on that later!
However it has lead me to go on a shaft hunt. Going to look to do a special build and want shafts to go along with that.
    Long wait but worth it!

Ope, on a roll this week... ordered this a few weeks ago to replace the Stealth. Got a slightly lighter shaft that should still work for me, but TBD on whether I use this or just swap the ZF over from the Stealth. Wasted a grip upgrade though - got a Lamkin Calibrate just to try, but must have missed the option to install at +0.75 (there's a rib down the back, so it needs to be installed straight).

I am more and more hoping for Lab to have a test again this year. I am getting more and more interested in them. I have alway been focused so much on being able to aim the putter correctly when I got fit last year and I didn't aim the Lab's properly. But after watching Sam with the Club Champion guys talk about how the putter hitting the ball where it's aimed will teach you how to aim the putter after a few weeks really resonated with me. I don't know why I didn't think about that before as since I don't aim well with full swings either and it usually being the source of my swing getting off I have been very strict with always having alignment sticks down when practicing on the range. And have experienced exactly what he was talking about with full swings multiple times where I put the alignment slicks down and feel like I am aiming way off. But after just forcing myself to just make my normal swing and see where it goes. Sure enough after watching the ball go where the sticks are aimed all of a sudden I feel like I am aiming correctly! Even if they do that doesn't mean I will get selected to be a tester, but a boy can dream 😁

I had good wind performance with the Tour X as well. I was wondering if the clear coat is part of how they seem to markup easily. At least on the ones I tests it didn’t cut or rip necessarily but marked up and looked bad pretty easily. I am not sure if other ls don’t use clear coat for sure but if they do it’s nowhere near as evident as what Callaway uses.

Well I'd say this is a pretty solid mail day.
Reunited with an old favorite 3w (inspired by some CHA chatter a couple weeks ago). New hat, that Bogey Jones cooler I mentioned earlier today, and, after 10+ years of trying... Tuesday tickets!

This is what I was seeing in the sleeve I had purchased. I have also pulled some random sleeves out at the store to look and saw the same on more balls than not. Not sure if they are big enough to effect aerodynamics not.

Yeah, it makes me wonder too. The wind performance was fantastic though. I wonder if it will affect the durability at some point?

Played with my last ball of the bunch today and it looked worse than those above.  Granted I've been hitting it in the SIM, but after 9 holes today it's in the retired/water ball bag.  Now that I'm out of Tour balls, I want to take one of the ProV1x from my SIM bag and go play 9 to see how it holds up.  Maybe I've forgotten and I'm too hard on the Tour balls.  My impression has been they (Tour) get scuffed up easier, but I'll test it out next week.  Weather is perfect today...happy hitting everyone!

Played our par 3 course 2 days ago. I am still struggling with which ball I like better. There was a bit of wind, and both were great. This is the reason I used to play Callaway balls, as they seem to just cut through wind. For instance, the first hole was 122 with wind off the right. I hit a smooth gap wedge, flighted down a bit, to take the spin off. It just went dead straight, no movement from the wind. I expected it to get pushed into the middle of the green, but it never left the pin. It pulled up on the front of the green, but that was due more to my early season distance control, or lack thereof, than anything else. I also hit 7 iron with both balls, dead into the breeze, and both flew to my normal carry distance and were sitting pin high.
When it came to spin, this is where I am having a hard time deciding. From my simulator work, the Tour x seemed to have a more ideal spin rate for me, but playing outside, there were times it spun too much. Whereas, the Tour spun right how I wanted on full shots, and one hopped and stopped when I took spin off. I am interested to get these out with the driver in the next week or so and see which seems better for me. I will say, there were times around the green I appreciated the little bit extra spin from the x. One problem with the Tour, however, I hit two shots that were a groove or two low on the face. Instead of dropping short of my target, they flew the green, like 10-15 yards past my normal carry where I can't usually push a particular club to. It wasn't like these were bladed shots that I expected to go stupid far, just a little low on the face where I usually lose distance. I can only figure that the lower spin of the Tour dropped to a perfect window of launch and low spin where it just carried forever. It didn't even fly much lower than my normal ball flight! That little inconsistency does concern me a bit. The x seemed to perform more as normal on those groove low shots, where it would drop a few yards short of normal.

Tour x, hit slightly down wind off my 56*, with some cut spin. I was expecting about 4-5 feet of back spin, not 12-15

Chrome Tour hit into wind, smooth to take spin off. Expecting one-hop and stop. Wind added a little spin and it backed up a foot or so to near it's ball mark.
Durability was a little different than in the simulator, which it expected with dirt and other debris getting trapped between the clubface and the ball. Still good. Nothings I would pull the ball out of play for yet, at least for casual rounds. For tournament play, I would start fresh, especially with the x. It seemed to mark up easier than the Tour. The paint on the triple track seemed to really be fragile. It chipped off in several spots.

Chrome Tour x after 1 par 3 round

Chrome Tour after 1 par 3 round
I also found, when I was really looking at these balls for damage, that the clear coat had lots if little bubbles in the middle of the dimples that I didn't notice before. It wasn't as bad as some have seen, with the big popped blisters, but it still was interesting. It was more pronounced on the Chrome Tour, and you may be able to see some if you zoom in on the picture above.
Finally, one thing I didn't love about the Tour was if felt almost too soft off the putter today. I haven't noticed it before, but it felt almost marshmallowy. The x felt a little more positive and gave me some feedback. It wouldn't hold me back from bagging it, but was something I noticed today that I hadn't felt indoors yet.

I did it. I said I’m biting the bullet. I traded my cobra in for the ping prime tyne 4 putter. It was more consistent on long putts in the store than the other 2 and the feel off the face reminded me of when I first got my odyssey putter. And that’s weird to say. But I’m happy with the purchase. I’ll use it and write up a new review on it.

I just bought/ordered a LAB DF3.  Am I going to regret it???  LOL
I needed a change from my toe weighted blade.
For me, the weight distribution was clearly keeping me on a consistent swing plane.  And the benefit of not loosing much in speed with mishits was a draw as well.

Thanks for sharing photos! Given how often you play and their age, I'd say that's not too bad. Especially if it isn't affecting how you're swinging! I don't know how long I expect these to last, but I'm hoping for quite some time since they are considerably more $ than most grips.
