This thread made me think of this article:

If the best in the world can miss a 2 footer should we give them……Just food for thought

Got to get a leg up somehow. We had a guy get super mad we made him putt a footer when he missed it. It was to tie us and to tie the match on the last hole. Sorry bud, but we gotta see that drop. And he left it on the bottom side with about the same distance. When he missed is when we told him it was good. We had won the match then

I was just talking about this with a few of the guys I work with. In the league I played in my partner and I had a deal between us. If the other team we were playing against had putts within 3 ft on the first 4 holes, we would give it to them with the exception of if it was to win the hole. Obvious exceptions were if we shot ourselves out of that hole and even if they 2 putted they would still win that hole it was a gimme. The last 5 holes we made them putt everything. Reason being is if they were so used to being given those putts, they all the sudden became stiff with their putts and missed and we would win the hole more times than not. This lead to us winning more matches and get into the playoffs.

In Florida in Jax Beach they have a golf course that is on par with the prices. I believe it’s like 52 to ride 18 called Jax Beach Golf Club if memory serves me correctly. Here in VA, Bide-a-wee is actually pretty nice at only 45-50 bucks to ride 18.

I like the looks of the Smoke the best. As for the rest of the specs, meh... They don't mean a thing until I can hit the club and develop my own specs.
When I was fitted last April I tried the latest and greatest Stealth and Paradyme drivers and stacked what I could do on trackman vs my current Sim 2 Max. Paradyme 10 shots. Consistent results, nice ball flight, 6 yards longer than my current driver. Stealth 10 shots. Tended to hook on me. 4 to 7 yards longer than my Sim.
Not enough increase in distance or accuracy in either club to make me want to drop 650 bucks on a new club and an additional 2 hundred on a different driver shaft.
I honestly believe these new "10" drivers would do little to improve my game. Not to say I wouldn't jump at the chance to use one I just can't justify the cost for distance gained disparity to make the purchase.

The men’s club here plays 18 inches is the gimmie range for weekly money games. Big tournaments we putt out. In the weekly groups I play they all have different rules. If it is a match play event, I give putts early and make them putt them late in the round. Often you will get them to miss one or two if they haven’t had to drill one for about 10 holes.

This is something I want to learn and have thought about talking to our GC pro about being able to use their equipment. Nobody uses it up there anymore.

Oh, and I’d like to add that I’ve ruined a pair of shorts and a pair of pants using a hook blade, cause I’m an idiot and decided to pull it towards me while taking the old grip off. Naturally when I got to the end and broke through, went straight into my shorts and my pants causing me to get a crazy awesome hole way to close to the nether parts.

I’m glad I came across this thread. I was thinking of reshafting my irons myself. But it looks like that would actually not be the most cost effective option for me. I’m not trying to make it a hobby so the the stuff would be bought and used and then I’d have to hopefully be able to return it. If not I know I’d take a hit selling it.

I will second this idea as I have done that myself when I was first starting out and didn’t want to pay a lot at that time.

The one thing you said here in point 2. Having a hair dryer to help remove the old tape, I wish I would have known that a while ago. When I first started replacing my grips in 2020 I didn’t know I could do that, my fingers were raw and had blisters on them from rubbing the tape off. Lesson learned when I got new clubs and watched a YouTube video to see if there was something else I could do to remove the tape. I was so mad at myself when they said to use one in the video I watched.

I regrip mine and wife's clubs every late February. Been doing it for the longest time. I agree, use plenty of fluid (mineral spirits), hook blade, and for me I have a heat gun for the tape. Nothing beats the feeling of doing the reegripping knowing it won't be long till I am out there again playing.
