Date 05/21/2024 Course Name Key West Golf Club Gross Score 79 Course Handicap 10 Gross Strokes over/under par 9 Net Score to Par -1 Net Score 69 Net Birdies or better Longest Drive My consistent play continued today even with less than stellar conditions.  We're one week into our first aeration and course received five inches of rain yesterday (meaning cart path only, standing water and water filled traps).  Given all that, I was extremely happy with breaking 80 with a 79.

I hit all but one fairway today.  The best thing was that when I missed (by about three feet), it was on the correct side of the dog leg left which gave me a clear shot to the green.  If I was going to miss, I missed in the right position.  The 17% greens in regulation could have been twice that, as I missed three by a matter of a few feet.
The six up and down pars was a good day.  What makes me a little disappointed was the 30 putts.  That's about five or six more than my average.  I was constantly short given the greens now have exposed aeration holes and have not been mowed for a week.  About halfway through the round I finally figured out that I had to have a more upward putter swing to put more top spin and keep the ball on top of the grass/sand.  After that, I had better distance control.  However, I was still victimized by the exposed aeration holes.  I know it's a short-term issue that will get better in a few weeks (which is just in time for aeration session two)!

I haven’t wore it as an everyday watch, just on the course. I walked 27 holes Saturday and it had over 50% battery left when I plugged it in when I got home.

Played a round in the pouring rain on Saturday.  I wore a raincoat and it was covering the watch a lot of the time unless I was checking yardages.  I noticed a couple of times while checking the watch for distances that there wasn’t a club tagged. I assumed it would just automatically tag through the jacket.  It was sometimes but missed a lot of shots. After noticing it, I tightened the cuff strap on my sleeve so that the watch was exposed.

I ended up having a pretty good round, shot 89 which is the best I’ve shot since starting back playing a few months ago.  When I got the round download and ready to edit, my watch missed 14 shots. 10 around the time I was wearing the raincoat over the watch, 1 penalty stroke not entered and the others were chunked chips or picking my wedge up in my hand before doing the pin collection.

Edited the 27 holes from yesterday with the V5 watch.  The watch missed a few shots on both rounds, and seemed to have added a shot here and there, maybe from carrying a club in my left hand, not sure.  I do know it seemed to miss the second chip every time if I chunked one and walked up with the same club and hit my next shot.  Not sure if I should stop for a second or take some extra practice swings or what.  Putting is pretty good, seems to be a little better than the H4.  I still have to adjust some distances on putts. I try to step off my first putt and write that number down to use when editing.

I do like this score discrepancy warning when editing.  That is helpful on the holes that it misses a shot or 2 and I put the score in as different than the watch had counted.
I've noticed that if i pick up my wedge after making a putt it goes to the next hole and I am unable to pin collect for some reason.  Maybe there is a way to get back to pin collect, if so I haven't figured it out yet.  Walking across the green seems to mess with the watch also.
Here are some statistics from the 2 rounds.

The first 9 holes I had 2 birdies! First time every I have had 2 birdies in a round.

Week 5 now open for scoring!!!
At the completion of week 5, any golfer with 5 rounds posted will be given a VCT handicap and placed in their initial flight. As a reminder, you may post as many rounds a week as you like, but only the best round will be counted for that week.

Warmer today - which is helping my drives go farther, but not straighter - ran into a couple of double bogeys - putting continues to be good, just need to eliminate hopping on the bogey train and hitting more GIR.

Kind of neat. I only used it a couple times today.  Mainly to figure out where I wanted to lay up. It will be really useful on courses that I am not familiar with.

Got my first round in with the new V5 watch.  I really like it so far, but there are some things that I am going to have to get use to.  There are some things that I do while playing, that I feel confuses the watch and produces errors that did not happen with the H4.
On arrival to the course I cut the watch on, clicked on play and gps and tag, just like I have been doing with the H4 for a short time now.  I went to the club house, used the restroom, paid, loaded the cart and drove to the first tee.  My watch still said locating GPS.  I cut the watch off and back on and tried to start the round again. Still just stayed on the locating GPS screen.  I went ahead and Teed off and sometime between teeing off and my second shot it found the GPS satellites.  I've never had this issue with the H4.

The watch distance numbers were within 3 yards of the  yardages on the cart every time I compared the 2.  I really like the score on the screen and the scorecard feature.  I always enter my scores on GHIN app as I go but having it on the watch is really nice during the round.  This feature is not found on the H4.
I played really well for me on this 9 hole round.  I had 2 birdies, I'd only had 1 all year so far.  Had a couple blow up holes and ended up with a 44.  I was curious what it looked like with I uploaded the round and how many shots that it missed.

Ended up showing a 39 on the back so it missed 4 shots, but 1 or 2 maybe penalties that I didn't add on the watch during play.  There were a few holes that after putting, I went to hit the pin collect and it was already on the next hole.  I would have to go back in and change the hole and enter the score.
I started thinking about a couple things that seem to confuse or mess up the system.  One is carrying my wedges and putter around in the hand that my watch is on around the greens.  I also have a habit of laying my wedge behind me when I putt and then pick it up and carry it to my next putt and do the same thing.  I noticed my watch tagged as LW one time while I was on the green.  The other thing that seems to confuse it is walking across the green for a shot off the green.  Not sure until I edit my 2 rounds from today here in a little while but it seemed to.  Lets edit, and I'll repost on that later tonight or tomorrow

I have not idea what the issue is and haven't had it checked out yet.  Seems to hurt a lot worse when walking in cushioned golf shoes. I rode 27 holes in the new nike's yesterday and hardly and soreness at all, I walked 27 today and the bottom of big toe is sore but that's  a different pain than I have been in.  I almost believe its over flexing the joint in the soft flexible shoes if that makes sense, but I could be wrong.  I purchased the cushioned shoes for walking because the others hurt my heels and bottom of my feet and now the cushioned ones seem to hurt my big toe.  Hopefully the new ones with help.  Thanks

So lately I had been wanting to try walking on the course more and more on my mind. Goodness only knows why, especially with the heat and humidity we get 8-9 months of the year!
I've read all the topics, researched push carts, read reviews here, got involved in a few discussions here too.
Well, with any chance of playing golf nixed due to heavy storms and rains the last 2 days, I went goodwill/thrift store hunting.(I know, no big surprise coming from me)
I did not find a single golf push cart though.  😔 (or any clubs... weird)
At the last place I walked into, as I was turning the back corner to head out, my spidey sense was tingling,  and I saw something...  it wasn't hidden, it just wasn't on my radar.
I wheeled it out onto the floor space, and my mind proceeded to calculate  at 1000mph in different directions.

images.mp4   It had a sweet price tag of 19.99. It still had stickers on the tires and plastic on the handle.  I rolled it up front and said out loud, "You know, this will work!" To which the lady at the counter replied "huh?" 😆
I got it home, and began dissecting it down to its bones. I made short work of it, and saw it's potential unfold before my eyes.

I've made no secret that I am a CAPP for alot of things, so I started putting my ideas together and decided i was going to repurpose as much of its pieces as I  could. I emptied the stix bag to use as a mock up test bag, and proceeded to rummage through my garage.
Once I had 90% of what I thought I needed, I began the build out.
I managed to utilize the seat buckle camlock strap as a bag lock for the bottom. Cut and moved the canopy and its mechanism/arm to the top. Repositioned the rocker buckles and the folding lock arms.

I used the lock arms as a cross brace for the bottom pvc pipe. Originally I drilled and bolted it directly on to secure it in place. This gave me a usable reference to build off of. I was able to place the bag on the base, strap it down, and position it to see where it needed to be for best club clearance. I placed the wedges and the driver in the bag at the top and bottom for a visual aid. All in about an hours time, then headed into the house.

Today I woke up to more nasty weather,  so decided it was time to finish what I started!  I set the bag in place, used a small bucket to position it up enough to clear the clubs over the top box
I had decided that the easiest and best way to make the top bag rest work well, was to build a pvc style field goal. I measured both bags (stand and cart) then measured,  cut, and dry fit the pieces.  The bag sat nicely in place!

I then glued it all together (no turning back at that point) and attached it to the pvc cross rail. I closed and reopened the jogger several times.  I needed to make it so the field goal would collapse flat when it was closed.  That's when I decided to drill cross holes at the base and use locking hitch pins to secure it.

I drove to the store and picked up a pair of hitch pins, a pool noodle, and pvc end caps. Test ran the open and closed positions and was satisfied.  I cut up the pool noodle and used it on all the pvc pieces. This serves as both padding for the bags, and also it prevents side to side shifting of them.

Placed each bag on the cart, and it was a perfect fit!  I then deiced to remove the canopy itself, as it was just not able to cover the bag or clubs. I was truly hopping it would be big enough as an added measure of rain protection. 😟

Last was figuring out how to secure the top of the bags. I was hoping to re-use the original straps,  but they were not long enough.  So I grabbed a few different types of bungee cords.  The black rubber ones worked just OK, but couldn't move them around enough.  I tried next some elastic bungee cords, and found one that did the job well.  I still wasn't  satisfied though.  So I went digging through a bin of random crap (doesn't everyone have a bin of random crap ?) and pulled out a cam locking tie down strap I've never used.  Reusing the carts old strap fasteners, I attached it to each side and test fit each bag. Eureka!  It worked great!

Now, I know the pool noodles are hideous, but they work for their intended purpose.
I still have to find a sliding tray to mount to the bottom of the cup holder bar, (for phone,  keys, etc) , and either a mini clipboard,  or a golf cart specific one to attach to the top part to keep a scorecard and pencil on.
It fits well folded up in the back!

Future development ideas include tube clamp accessories like an umbrella mount, phone mount, drink holder for oversized bottles/tumblers, etc.  But those can be found for cheap almost anywhere from WM to Amazon to temu, and can be non golf specific. (Strollers,  bicycles, motorcycles, etc all offer some type of accessories product options)
If you made it this far,  congratulations!  Now here is a 12 minute video of everything I went over in writing.

Feel free to critique, ask questions, give feedback, and defiinitely will take suggestions on how to make the upper bag support  less fugly!!! 😆 🤣 😂

Finding some concerning issues. Shots not tagging in the right spots or tagging at all. When I went to sync and edit my round tonight. Always have to look over the round afterwards. Shots, putts, missed shots, etc. It is still a process and not as clean as I would like. If you play fast the watch will miss things. Making sure that the watch has the club you pulled on the right corner is a good idea. If you put the butt end of the club (tag) near the watch before you hit it should grab it. It is not accurate on the greens and about 75% accurate on shots. Concerning thing today is it said my 7i and 8i were not active clubs when I was reviewing the round. Very odd. Watch lasts ~ 2 rounds on battery life.
