Wow, I may have to start applying for testing opportunities again, but ya know I'm still scarred from that time I applied to test that Callaway driver and @GolfSpy BOS was chosen over me!🙄😅

We as Forum staff are truly always trying to find new ways to bring content and ideas to the forum.
Our list is pretty long, but ultimately it's what you want to see, read, watch and consume that matters.
    Let us know!
While ppl can still say more member testing we are at capacity there and won't be bringing more than the max of 2 per week. Maybe if we get more ppl engaged and posting we could up the number of ppl selected, but for the member we are happy with where the schedule is and the number of tests as it suits the number of engaged members.
So with that what do you want to see!?

I did the same and bought a generic from Amazon.  I use it quite frequently and find it very good.

I just purchased one a couple days ago and am excited about those protocols and putting in the work to get my swing better.
Thanks for the details and your experience.

PrayingForPar reacted to MissionMan in Unofficial Review - Titleist GT2
It's been a couple of weeks since I got my GT2's so this is more of a mini-review than a full review. Had a few outings, one comp. Excuse the lack of pics, I’m stuck in a hotel room after my flight was cancelled, so I had time to kill before tomorrow. I’ll put in some decent pictures when I get home.
I was fitting as part of the early fittings with Team Titleist. I managed to get into one of the first fittings after I drove 1.5hrs to get there because I'm on an island that would only see a fitting in Oct/Nov.
I'm an 8 handicap, my game varies from good to bad. I've shot 73's before, manage to get 1 over on a 9 but haven't managed to string together two good nines on a regular basis, at least not in comp. My driving is typically good, although I do have a tendency to hook when my swing is going bad, typically not rotating enough and getting too handsy. My swing speed is around 105 with a driver so generally my drives are around 260-280 depending on run.
    The fitting

I've previously done a few fittings with Titleist. I'm not tied to them specifically, I have a lab putter, but I have a preference because my local course pro shop stocks them making warranty replacements easier to deal with if I have an issue. Prior to this, I was using a TSR's (9,15,18) although I have tried the AI Smoke which I liked it. I say I was using the 9/15/18 but in reality it was 9/15 only with the 18 coming out on wet days. A 2 iron is normally my preference as a third long club.
The experience is normally really good. The guys know their gear pretty well and it's good to see them craft a set of clubs. They tend to work on a blind basis, he asked me not to look at shafts or the bottom of drivers for a better outcome so you don’t have any biases. I made it clear at the beginning I wasn't an ego golfer so they could fit me to whatever was best, even if it was a regular shaft.  There were occasions you could tell something was different because it was obvious. The GT3 has a different sound to the GT2 so the moment I hit it, I knew.
The final set for me was GT2 10 degree switched up to a 10.75 and a 16.5 switched down to a 15.75, both with Gen 5 hzrdus Black Stiff. Don't ask me why, but I hit the 10 degree switched up to a 10.75 better than the 11 degree, consistently. He tried it a couple of times to make sure. I think it’s one of the benefits of a fitting over an off the shelf. You wouldn’t think to try something like that. The extra loft helped improve my spin rate on my driver. I was running a little low on spin, around 1900 so the loft shifted me up to 2400.
From a distance Comparison perspective , I was getting about 2mph more ball speed but the improvements in spin and launch added about 25 yards to my carry. Carry and run is about 5 yards longer, but in winter that’s still 20 yards longer because we get zero run here. This came from a combination of the 2mph, increased spin rates and increased loft.
The fitter indicated his main goal was to get rid of my miss, which is an occasional strong draw and the setup he gave seem to accomplish that by the end. I’ll cover more on this in the first impressions.
    Ordering and arrival
I ordered straight after my fitting, and was advised to expect the clubs to arrive mid to late August. The clubs arrived early August, a day after the official release date, much quicker than I expected given I live in a location in the middle of no where. Seems like I was lucky enough to be part of the first batch being delivered, and Titleist included some GT alignment sticks as a bonus. The heads look gorgeous and I love the look of the new headcovers.

    Initial thoughts
So was 2mph worth it? If that was the only difference, I’d say no. I’m not seeing substantially more distance off the tee.
    BUT…
    …that not the only difference.
Without considering the carry benefits which I may have also picked up through a higher loft in the TSR2, the biggest benefit is two areas. I waited to get it out on the course to see if this was just the fitting on the day, maybe getting into a groove with my swing. Sometimes you have a good range session and you get out on the course and it disappears like Rory in the final round of the US Open.
    • Dispersion
    • Forgiveness on off centre hits
On the first, the GT2 is incredibly straight. It's hard to explain how much better it is than the TSR in that respect. Maybe it’s a better shaft in the gen5 Hzrdus, maybe not. I'm going through rounds where where I'm hitting more fairways in regulation than I ever have. So much so, that its not uncommon for me to hit every fairway in regulation on one nine and I'm taking driver on holes I wouldn't normally not have considered it as an option.
Does it go in the rough? Yes, but not as far. I have a couple of holes I miss on, and none of them have come into play. My typical miss was on our dog leg par 5 third hole where I would occasionally over draw into the bushes, having to drop out. I haven’t even seen anything even venture into the semi rough. The 6th has heavy trees down the left. I haven’t seen them since the TSR left my bag. We have a couple of holes where the tips force a faded tee shot. For someone who draws naturally, and overdraws more often than I would like, the fade is tough and normally results in a pull draw, or a slice, but with the GT2, I’m having no issues. Normally I have to do a cutty fairway finder instead of a powerfade but it seems more controllable for me.
The second thing I've noticed is that off centre distance improvements. On my TSR2, I'd normally lose 20-30 yards or an off centre but, where the GT2 I'd say this is less than half of it. In some cases, I'm finding my misshits have gone as far as my TSR2. The forgiveness is better in some areas than others. Hitting low on the face will lose you a lot more distance than high on the face. High on the face will lose you 5 yards (unless you sky the ball off the crown), while low on the face will lose you closer to 20. Heel and toe messes didn't have a big impact as a result of being straight than before.
Obvious not many people hit driver off the deck, but if you do, I found it really good due to the added forgiveness. I use it a lot into the wind. Being coastal in winter, we have that cold heavy wind that drains every ounce of strength out of a shot.
    Compared to the GT3 /GT4
Im not going to spend to much time in this area, suffice to say a few things:
The GT3 is longer than the GT2 but not nearly as forgiving. It has a different feel, hard to say exactly what it was as it’s been a couple of weeks since I got fitted but hitting back to back, the sound was noticeable. I'd say the GT3 offers about 10 yards of distance over the GT2. It comes at the price of dispersion. The GT4 issimilar to the GT3 but lower spin. As someone who has a low spin numbers on my driver, it offered no benefit for me.
    Negatives
Not many at this point. Only one I had was not being able to get my Gripmaster grips fitted at the time of ordering.
    Conclusion
This isn't a love letter to Titleist despite what it may seem. What Titleist has done with the GT2 is amazing, but isn't unusual in the market. The only unusual thing is not naming their driver " AI something". This year, models like the GT2 (and it's competitors) have been focussed on forgiveness and straightness, where models, like the GT3/GT4 (and its competitors) are more performance focussed. I have tried the Callaway AI Smoke and found it pretty good, but I couldn’t test them side by side to make a call on whether it was better or worse. It was just better than my TSR2.
That said, I have been blown away by the accuracy of the GT2. The first day my driver arrived, I took it onto our first two holes for a test run with 5 balls. I hadn’t had a practice swing on the range or in the nets. The first hole saw 4 balls on the fairway, and one in the semi rough because it went too far. The second saw 5 on the fairway. Whilst I would love some extra distance, the accuracy I'm experience is definitely worth the compromise in distance over the GT3.

Not necessarily true; from the MGS 2023 ball test and 85 MPH swing speed:
Even at relatively slow speeds, higher-compression offerings produced the longest driver distances under the conditions tested.

Semi private to me, infers they are membership driven course that allows some public tee times. They should have had a Marshall around somewhere.
However, I will usually approach one of the group at the tee box and ask if they mind if I hit so that they aren't feeling rushed or annoyed by me catching up to them frequently.  90% of the time they will let me hit, even if one or two have already teed off.

I walk by myself regularly at municipal courses and am often stuck behind people who either don't understand the concept of letting someone play through, or have the "I paid just as much as you did" mentality and think I should have to wait for their foursome...
If no one is behind me, once I finish the hole I take a few minutes to putt from different parts of the green while I wait.
With that, Golf for me is an outlet from a stressful and demanding job, so those moments of waiting are time for me to remember why I am out there; to unplug, clear my head, and get home to my wife in a good mood.

All made really valid points here. Just to provide a different take in case you are frugal like me, I have had the Amazon soft case for 4 years now and have not had an issue at all. I mainly travel domestic, with the occasional international, about 4-5 times a year and take my bags almost every time. I am aware Club Gloves are really nice, and a lot of my golf buddies have one, but at the time of purchase I went with Amazon because I wasn't as committed to the game and the Amazon bag was only ~$25.
However, I should probably note that I pack very diligently. Always use a backbone (I use the Bag Boy Backbone), take your driver/wood/hybrid head off and pack them in your personal luggage, and wrap your clubheads with sweaters, sweatpants, hoodies, etc. But still, I think the fact that my Amazon bag has not ripped in almost 20 trips should be noted.

@Clip_Box, @Golf2Much nailed it with great advice. I’ve had a College size Club Glove for about 15 years, and it’s held up great. I’d offer similar advice and definitely get the stiff arm. Also, the only change I would have made is to get a color other than black. Mostly for visibility and spotting it at busy airports where people might accidentally walk away with your bag.

I've had a Club Glove soft sided travel bag for over 30 years and taken it all over the world.  All the zippers work fine and there's only minor wear and tear of the travel bag itself (actually less than I've gotten on some luggage).  I've only had to replace the wheels as they degrade over time (replacing is easy as they are standard inline skate wheels).  It has some worn areas, but not to the point where it impacts aesthetics but not function of the carrier.   During that 30 plus years, I've never had a club damaged during transit.
I like the soft sided travel bags as they are easier to handle in and out of the car and through airports.   Independent of which you choose, make sure you get one with wheels.  It makes navigating airports so much easier.
A couple of tricks I've learned:
Get a stiff arm, Bag Boy Backbone or other retractable arm to help protect your clubs from impact on the top of the bag.   Before those where available, I had a broom stick cut about 1/2" longer than my driver to help protect it.   I have the Backbone and it's nice as it fully retracts when not in use and will extend to various lengths when in use. Given I have adjustable woods, I now take off the heads when I travel.  That leaves the much shorter shafts which easily can fit underneath the Backbone.   Just so I have a record on what the woods were set at, I take a picture and keep it in my phone (just in case I forget the settings).  Don't forget to pack a wrench for reattaching when you arrive. I use my golf towels to wrap within the iron faces.  There's a lot of rattling during their travel adventures, so it helps minimize any cosmetic damage due to rubbing against each other. For extra padding, I'll include my rain gear or other clothing in the travel bag. Put your name and phone number on and in your travel bag.  Sometimes the tags get damaged and fall off, so you want to be sure if you're separated for whatever reason there's some identification to let people know the clubs are yours. Though the Club Glove has zippered pockets for golf shoes, when I'm traveling to a golf destination, I'll bring my shoes, some balls, tees and other items with me in my carry on.  Especially if we are playing when we arrive.  That way if the clubs do not make it with me on the flight, I can rent and still play golf while they find my clubs.  On my way back, everything goes back into the Club Glove. I have a separate smaller, lighter weight stand bag that I travel with.   Even though we'll likely be using carts at our destination, the smaller bag is easier to pack in the travel bag and the lighter weight helps me make sure I meet the luggage weight restrictions. Speaking of weight, I try and remove as much non-essential golf related items from my bag when I travel.  I take just as many balls as I think I'll need.  Leave the Orange Whip at home.  Again, being conscience of the overall weight.  If something comes up, I can likely buy it at the destination. I hope this might help.  Good luck in your travels!

I often play as a single. And usually if I catch the group ahead of me at the tee, they’ll oftentimes offer to let me play through. Sometimes I accept and sometimes I don’t.
I did get stuck once behind five “finance bros” who were playing from the tips. Caught up to them on the second tee (par 5). They didn’t even acknowledge I was there. So after they muddled their way down the fairway I placed my drive and second shot right in the fairway. As they walked off the green and heading towards their carts I had an approach shot that landed nicely on the green (I was super lucky). Caught them again on the third tee. This time I simply asked if I could play through. Of course they said yes.

The other trick I’ll use is to jump ahead when folks stop at the halfway house. Then it’s just one of those “you guys don’t mind if I play through right.” as they are eating hotdogs and drinking beer. Haha

If there is a marshall they could have told the group to either speed up or let you play through.  I have played semi-private courses where I was told they don't say anything to members.   If they don't let you play through basically your only options; other than staying where you are,  is to skip a hole and jump ahead of them if the holes in front are open or try to pass them if they stop at the turn.

Is this an acknowledgement that the new Handicap system is not fit for purpose? Seen it numerous times where an individual can go on a "winning run" because the handicap does not come down like it should. People have shot over 40 points in our club comps and only lost 1 shot, sometimes they have not lost any. I like this idea, but the handicap system needs sorting

Now in the world of hunting when I'm walking back deep in public land I like to be light. I have found a good pack that has been my go to pack now. Since the post I have been drawn to a 5-way bag and honestly the new leather maxfli leather bag. I might move up to 5-way or more because with the current 4-way bag and midsize grips its tough getting clubs in and out the bag.

Currently i'm in the market for a new stand bag. My old titleist bag has been worn out and is looking to be retired. My only true requirements are is the bag must be 4-way and light. I searched and searched the internet and found the Vessel VLS DXR and the Titleist Players 4 Carbon. Are there any other options that I missed and have any other forum members have any experience with the bags I mentioned.

Funny you should ask that. I just tried it yesterday @ Caledonia Golf and Fish in Pawley's Island S.C. It is not for me. I only used it for 2 holes and I couldn't get it to hold a green. It was a firm "clicky" feeling that I didn't expect. It was noticeably harder to work the ball left or right. The greens were small, hard and freshly sanded so I had to go to a ball with more spin. The dimple pattern was odd. I have never seen that kind of pattern.  Personally, it's not for me. The 2 drives I hit with it (Driver and 2i) were very acceptable. Not super long or short. I see this as a good option for an 18+ handicap looking for a little help keeping it inbounds.

Glad you found the “it” factor.  I go through phases where I’m standing over the ball and question my life’s decisions.  I’m standing there, I know what to do, but it feels wrong, but I haven’t changed anything and all my confidence flies out the window. Does that happen to anyone else?

My driver “it” factor was to stand taller with less squat, golf is a funny game.
