Shot a horrible 89 yesterday with 3 birdies!.  My driver is killing me...cant hit in the fairway.  Anyways, finally figured out I was overswinging.  Once I slowed down, ball striking was much better.    Oh well, there's always next time!

Played again on Sat morning.....40 degrees out at our 6:30am tee time in SE WI.  Played at the Broadlands...great course.  Anyways, shot 83 (44-39).  Hard to get loose and get a good swing with multiple layers on to start the round.  Everything was better on the back nine!  Weather isnt usually like it was in early Sept but, oh well....and there were guys playing in shorts in 40 degrees with a slight wind......nuts!

WI has amazing golf all over the state.  So many good courses at the tier below Whistling, Sand Valley and Erin Hills.    Great prices too!

I too like to make mine fresh. I started with the freezer bottle in advance of a holiday party where we decided an "old fashioned bar" was more work than it was worth so batched up a few bottles. It was a hit and then we couldn't resist the convenience.  Always serve the freezer door version with dark cherries and recommend a spoonful of syrup. Love Luxardo, but, despite their ridiculous branding, Filthy Black Cherry has become my garnish of choice. Relatively inexpensive and quite tasty.  Prefer my cocktails on the drier side, but also always have some combination of simple, dark/rich simple, and honey syrup ready to go in the fridge for a top-up.
I like the idea of adding some oranges (whether slice or peel) to the bottle ahead of the next party we throw.  Maybe a more citrus-forward version, a sweeter version, and the OG....  I might try this out and will surely report back.....

I love this topic.  Im all for a good vodka and tonic on the course.  Super refreshing and a little "aiming juice" seems to help me relax and not think about my swing.  Paired with a good cigar, a good group to play with and its the perfect day!  "Hit em Straight"

Just started perusing this thread so sorry for be six months late, but I love an old-fashioned, and for the last year have been making a "freezer door old-fashioned." Basically a batched cocktail that I keep in the freezer ready to pour whenever the mood hits. For a 1-liter bottle, this is the ratio I use:
23oz of 100-proof bourbon (Old Forester 100 is my day to day bottle) 2.5oz of a 2:1 simple syrup. Demerara if you've got it, I use light brown sugar for mine 1.1oz Angostura aromatic bitters 3/4 oz Orange bitters 6.5oz water (recreates the dilution you'd get from chilling over ice) It comes out awesome. Went through 2.5 liters at our Christmas party last year.  If you don't want to take the plunge to a full bottle, assuming you used a sugar cube the first time, try making some simple syrup. 2:1 by weight of sugar to water and if you use brown sugar or demerara it will add some character. 2oz bourbon, 1-2 dashes angostura, 1-2 dashes orange bitters, maybe an 1/8th oz or to taste with the simple and see how that treats you.
    Cheers!

Finally cracked open my bottle of Suntory Roku Gin for a dry martini.  Can't recommend it highly enough.  Floral on the nose, the taste is citrusy and delicious with a little bit of balanced spice on the finish.  Even my wife who is not a gin fan took one sip and asked me to pour her one as well.  While I generally prefer a more London-style, pine/juniper forward gin for my gin and tonics, one of the clubs I play at had this behind the bar and it makes a damn good g&t as well.

I have the 699s V1 (lefty) and I love them.  More forgiving than the 659s.  699s are a bit more plain looking but I didn't buy them for the look.  I play to a -7 index right now and my iron game is much better since I bought my 699s...3rd season.  I also have the 949 fairway woods...amazing feel.  My son plays the combos set of 659MBs and 659TCs.  He plays to a -2 index.  He switched from Taylor Made 770s. I will always own a set of Sub 70 clubs going forward!
