  1. Great insight here as always. Individual testing may differ from what you may read as each player has different nuances club head speeds etc. I have noticed, having pulled apart many new sets in the past that clubs off the rack are not put together properly. I try to get my players on to the range testing clubs without them knowing what brands/ shafts they are hitting. Looking for feel and repetitiveness. Then dialing in using devices to determine flight, club head speed etc. it’s a process many get tired of until 5hey have the finished product in their bags and a few rounds under their belt.
  2. Congratulations testers. The results from this tes will be interesting.
  3. Mizuno 4-PW. Titleist Vokey 52, 56, 60 At this juncture it wouldn’t take much for me to change. Possibly back to TaylorMade or PXG.
  4. The next one! That’s why they call it golf.
  5. If you had to trust just one club in your bag, excluding your putter for a one time $1M call shot where the result was 95% of the call, what club would you trust the most and what club would you trust the least. For me, I would trust my Mizuno JPX Hot Metal Pro 8 iron to fly 120 yards under pressure. I can use that club to take 5 yards off it or stand on it to get an extra 5. My most feared club would have t be my TM Stealth 10 degree driver. With this club I find I can hit it 230, or 180, draw or hook, fade or slice with a tail wind or a headwind. My problem is that any combination of those shots can happen at any time with one exception. Under pressure, the 230 slight draw or fade is not going to happen. What say you?
  6. I have gotten into to habit of using plastic although I carry both in my bag.
  7. The night before the morning round I am usually facing the question of what wedges to put in the bag. It used to be easy. You had a PW and a SW and go get em! Now you also must decide between adding a 50, 52, 54, 56, 60 or some model bent in between . Are we making a game that used to be fun more complicated than it should be? Before this posting I went out in the shop (aka garage) and counted. 22 wedges! I have never attempted to do a study whereby I correlate scores to which wedges I chose. Did it really make a difference? II know different types of sand may require different types of bounce or different leading edges. Having said that, given that most of our rounds are played on the same two or three courses and the days of shooting under par have left the building, I thing it’s time to go back to the basics. One pitching wedge, one sand wedge and get out and have fun. What say you?
  8. I to have seen the high pressure sales tactics at CC. The other thing I saw was them pushing two year old shafts to an unsuspecting customer. Don’t be negative on all custom fitters because of this experience. There are many great guys out there that can properly fit without any pressure whatsoever. Being fit with the right gear is a critical component to improving your game.
  9. I have four. JumboMAX TOUR Series on my driver, 3 wood 5 wood and sand wedge: Golf Pride CP2 Jumbo wrap on my Mizuno irons 5-PW, 50 54 degree Vokey wedges; Golf Pride cord on my Vokey 58 degree (bought used and have not got around to changing it); JumboMax ST/1.3 on my putter. Going to play the CP2’s through September and will then probably switch the irons over to JumboMax Wrap Series. Grips for me are a head game. Playing poorly, switch the grips. Playing really poorly change the shafts; playing really, really poorly change the clubs……repeat
  10. Congrats to the testers. From all I’ve read this is one of the best training devices around
  11. What a great opportunity. Looking forward to seeing the results of this test.
  12. Because we have our own carts here in The Villages, I use a Titleist Staff bag that I received as a gift from one of the Tour players a few years ago. It’s one large sucker but it handles 14 clubs with JumboMax grips quite nicely . If we are playing outside the bubble I have Titleist and Ping carry bags.
  13. I have 6 brands in my primary bag and 5 in my secondary bag Driver TaylorMade Sim 10.5* Fairway TaylorMade RBZ 17* Fairway Ping 17* G2 Hybrid Titleist 913H 24* Irons SIM OS Max 4-PW Wedges Cleveland Tour Action 56* and Callaway Sure Out 58* Putter FB FBS1 Ball TaylorMade Tour Response Bag 2 Driver Killer Bee 9.5 Hybrid TaylorMade SLDR 19* Irons Cleveland TA 5 gunmetal 4-PW Wedge Callaway X 56* TaylorMade Mill Grind 60* Putter CURE Tour X3 Ball TaylorMade Tour Response i guess you could say variety is a good thing
  14. I am 5’8” with shorter legs. I have played with 1/2” shorter irons for the past 30 years. Changing to standard lengths would definitely be a challenge. My swing plane has adjusted to this length and would not change. That said, I just added a 2” extension to my Talamonti driver shaft . My swing plain is a little flatter but I have picked up 7-10 yds off the tee. As others have suggested, try choking down 1/2 inch or pull your 7 and 8 iron heads and try your 7 on the 8 iron shaft.
  15. Realistically anything inside of 15 feet I am trying to drain. At 50 feet I try to put it within a 3 foot circle. Tends to relax forearms and promote a better stroke.
  16. It would be great to win a higher end launch monitor. Currently using a Mevo.
  17. Launch monitor. Not a must have. That said I just purchased a Flightscope Mevo base model.
