  1. Only 2 fittings in my life. Golftown with a Mizuno rep for irons. So of course I tried their clubs only but after 1 hour and multiple heads and shafts, we found something that worked. Then I compared the numbers I got and tried other brands. He was not pushy at all and it was a good experience. That was 5 years ago and it was free. At a golf course with a Callaway rep. Tried their driver and was not happy with the numbers. But I also tried their putters and that was a joke of a fitting! He looked at me putt and tried to sell me the most expensive Odyssey. And this is after telling me that the alignment aid was better on a cheaper model... His only reason for pushing the most expensive one was that it looked great! So you definitely need to do your hmework before you go.
  2. I can't wait t test some of these theories. I have a putter fitting at Club Champion on Saturday (in Calgary, Alberta, Canada). I'm going in with an open mind although I do have a few brands and model that I prefer. When talking to them on the phone, they seemed very honest. The person I talked to insisted on telling me that the most important part of the fitting was getting to know my numbers. They use Quintic for their putter fitting. Here's to hoping I can become a better putter...
  3. I started playing when I was 11 years old. None of my friends played at the time so it was always with my parents. I loved the game then and I still do to this day. I also love competing and do get a little mad when I play bad but because you're playing with friends and strangers (sometimes), I find a way to find pleasure even on bad days. In order to keep it interesting, a few of the guys have a 1$ match play going on every day. So if you mess up on hole 1 (and sometimes 2-3-4 more holes), you have something else to play for on top of the exercise!
  4. Extensive testing on LAB putters and Odyssey AI as well. Comparing the 2. What to look for in a putter fitting. DTC vs Srixon and Mizuno. Which is the most forgiving. ZX5, Pro 225, etc. Steel vs graphite shafts. For weight and accuracy mostly. I know the good graphite shafts are expensive but my next set will hopefully stay in my bag for a while... Thanks!
  5. I really want to know about the golf courses. Obviously, there is more to do in Vegas but this is primarily a golf trip so only think about the golf courses. Think of the value for money. Laughlin will be cheaper but do you lose out that much? Are the courses still good. I have played Paiute-Wolf and Revere-Concord only in Vegas and they were both very nice. Does Laughlin compare to those? And if you have time, tell me which courses to play both in Laughlin and Vegas. (unfortunately we do not the budget to play Cascata... The trip will be late March, early April, so we have to pay the peak rates. Thanks
  6. If you look at my signature it will give you a decent idea... I really like Cobra. They perform really well and are usually priced just a little below the big brands. Mizuno for the feel in the irons. I did have Cobra irons in the past though. Vokey for the wedges. I have tried others and haven't found anything as good for me yet. Odyssey for my putter. Love the results, feel and shape of the putter. I don't like Scotty Cameron (but that's mostly to annoy my playing partner and tell him that he overpaid for his putter)... Not a fan of Callaway, although I did love my old FT iq square head driver (couldn't miss the fairway with that thing). I think I would play almost anything that would make me better but even in a fitting there is only so much time and they only have so many clubs that you can try so you'll never know if there was something better. Don't get me wrong, I'll still get fit for my next set of irons but I'm always wondering, could I have found something better???
  7. Lots of fun, kept me a lot more interested than before. I will do it again for sure. Thanks to the people who organized it.
  8. Well Javelins, it's your Hatton vs my Rahm. I'm going to need some help to pass you in the GOLFSPY_BOS DIVISION. Good luck!
  9. Long bunker shots near the green and you have to fly it over the sand for 10 yards. If you combine that with being short sided to the green, I just keep swearing repeatedly in my head until I'm out of the bunker... My home course has 2 bunkers like that on par 3 and that's where I've ruined many rounds!
  10. I got rid of my 3w but I replaced it with a 5w (so not exactly what you asked for). So much easier to hit high and straight. I don't hit it that long but I can get 225-235 with my 5w so it's used primarily on second shots into par 5 or off the tee when I absolutely need to hit a fairway.
  11. Always swing with the slope when it's uphill or downhill. Align your shoulder with the slope.
  12. Hideki Matsuyama and Cam Young. I love their swing. <The pause at the top is what does it for me. Ricky Fowler impressed me when he kept his cool that one time his ball rolled in the water and he was penalized even though it wasn't his fault. I have respected him since then.
  13. Definitely interested! Especially since I didn't do any hockey pool this year, I've got withdrawals symptoms...
  14. Definitely interested! As was mentioned before, their Costco's return policy is amazing, so you buy a set, go to the range and try them for a while. If the results are good and you're in the market for irons, you probably just saved quite a bit of money. I usually change my irons every 5 years and I'm on year 3 with my Mizuno irons, so I will have a chance to read all the reviews and hopefully they are still making irons in 2-3 years...
  15. I had a 4 wheel sun mountain and the bag sat pretty low so the tires would rub against the bag (maybe I have too much clothing in there but in Alberta you often experience all 4 sasons in one day so it's necessary). That was making it harder to push. The 3 wheel that I have now doesn't rub against the bag becuse the bag sits above the front tire. And it is a little bit easier to maneuver but that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. I have a Ping Pioneer bag, not even that big of a bag by the way.
  16. Hi, I would play the best ball at the best price. The Srixon z-star was on sale in Canada last week at half price. 28$ for a dozen, that's hard to beat for a premium ball. And I'm sure wherever you are that you can find theses kind of deals once in a while. The Costco option is definitely a good one too. I'm a decent player (8.8 index) and I refuse to pay 65$/dozen (in Canada) for Titleist balls. I didn't read al the comments so hopefully this hasn't been said before...
  17. If Puddy cheers for the Devils on Seinfeld, then there are no other team to cheer for... And by the way, I know it's hockey in Seinfeld, but it's still the DEVILS!
  18. I agree with you, that it's my game that it hurts, but talking to my playing partners would make it worse as they are the ones complaining the most about slow play! The guys are great but slow play makes them complain worse than my grade 8 students when I give them homework...
