  1. Every time I watch a PGA tournament...I know those guys have worked their butts off but getting outdrove by skinny little guys has continued to blow my mind haha. I know Brooks and DJ are known for their physical prowess, but they're certainly not the majority. Seeing some 5' 5" 160 lb dude smashing drives 300+ and then looking at by own game... needless to say I'm jealous!
  2. Putting myself out there a little bit on this one; I'll bet my workout routines look a lot different from most of the folks on these forums. Mark Rippetoe is a prominent strength coach, and had Jay Livsey (who has been on some of the smaller tours I believe) on his podcast talking about how the best way to get fit for golf is to be really strong. Apologies (and warning) in advance, coarse language in the video. And Mark in general is a pretty abrasive personality. But I do think there's a lot of truth here, and am curious to hear some of y'all's perspectives on the video! Also, you can skip the first 10 minutes, you won't be missing anything. Summary of his argument: 1. Training is different from practicing. You train to get your body more fit, stronger, etc. while you practice the specific golf movements to improve technique. 2. All else being equal, a stronger golfer is better than a weaker golfer. 3. The best way to be a stronger human being is to weightlift, specifically squat, deadlift, bench and press.
  3. Dang, those look awesome. I might have to check it out myself!
  4. Got out and shot 43 from the tips! Not really sure I have a ton of business playing from the tips in general, but my driver was on today so there was a solid amount of driver to 9i/wedge approaches. My putting has been spot on, and my oh my does that really help the score! Had 15 putts today, probably 2-3 from 10ft+ that dropped. Approach game was a little spotty, my irons have been chunky lately. But all in all great round for me, gotta love days like today!
  5. Good for you guys for getting after it in the gym! And awesome results too. I know I can really notice when I haven't been getting workouts in everything just feels way more prone to tweaks and injuries. Outside of golf, working out is gotta be my next favorite hobby, so it's great to see you guys gettin er done!!
  6. Here's a possibly dumb question... are club specs (length, loft, lie, etc.) going to be pretty much the same no matter the club, or potentially different club to club? Specifically asking for putters, but curious about irons/drivers as well. Thanks!
  7. Got in another 18 at a local course yesterday, absolutely killer day for golf. Ended up with an 89, 32 putts, 44% GIR, 73% FIR. Back 9 I played hands down my best 9 ever, with a 40. Had a chip in to save bogey, tons of great shots and a few lucky bounces, but made a happy camper by the time we finished up and were eating dinner!
  8. Played 36 yesterday, both new courses. Went 92, 30 putts, 28% gir, 43% fir. Then 101, 33 putts, 6% gir, 29% fir. Putter was great all day, loved that. Short game in general was really solid, but I had some real inconsistencies with my approach game. Off the tee I was much more consistent than I have been so that's great. Lots of barely missing the fairway but still good positions.
  9. Gotta go with @Bucky CC, hitting the big shot with the tourney on the line!
  10. To clarify, I've been watching online at NBC's coverage. Watching the true TV live coverage requires a cable login, but you can select 1 of 2 "Marquee groups" and just follow them. I just wish they would make following Koepka a little easier, seems like that'd only be good for the game in general.
  11. Could someone explain to me how in 2 straight majors, NBC's "Marquee groups" fail to include the world #1 golfer? I mean I'm all for the story lines too, but Brooks has plenty, not to mention the best golf currently played on the planet.
  12. Had some kids from the youth group bunking it at our place, and one of them managed to put their foot through the drywall. I suppose it's payback for all the drywall I busted through as a kid.
  13. Honestly, I think cost is the biggest thing keeping more people away. Sure it's an instant gratification culture and what not, but I think if you look at former athletes they don't exactly fit that category. By and large people who've spent a lot of time practicing and training in another sport would be likely to enjoy golf that way as well. That's why I enjoy it so much. But, paying $4k for a golf membership, that only pays back if you're playing ~2-3 rounds a week, that's just not gonna happen. Certainly the biggest hurdle imo.
  14. Completely agree, I think you're spot on.
  15. @palvord @Bucky CC @Nunfa0 @bardle @robertson153 Two Questions: 1. With the new clubs, what's the biggest difference you've noticed in terms of the actual shots? Distance, shape, spin, etc. 2. Knowing what you know now, if you could only keep either the clubs or Arccos, which would you keep?
  16. Whew, that looks sharp!!! I've been getting kinda curious myself... Did you find it difficult to get it the way you wanted?
  17. Man, those clubs are gorgeous. @Shankster Great pics as well! I'm curious how you like the trajectory/spin, and how the clubs have been holding greens for you?
  18. That seems like really sound advice, but how do you practically go about that? Focus on shorter distances at the range? Or play rounds starting off 150 out on the fairway? I'm just not sure I'd be able to stomach green fees if I feel like I'm missing out on half the holes.
  19. Not trying to change the subject, although I see CBD seems to be quite the hot button issue... Just wanted to say I'm really glad to hear the team reiterating their mission to bring truth to the everyday golfer, particularly with the ball test. If somebody wants to "make" their own tour level ball that's fine; but saying it's gonna compare to a Titleist/Bridgestone/Srixon, well, frankly there's just going be differences, especially without the R&D capabilities. And for those of us who don't wanna blow through ProV1s, some Vice or Kirkland's or something similar is still probably the best all around go, especially for the price. Thanks MGS for not getting distracted by other people's chatter and sticking true to your mission.
  20. I know your guys' ball striking is probably all waaaaaay more consistent than mine...but if you completely chunk a shot is there a way to take that out of Arccos' club stats? Not meaning to make this an Arccos question spree, but what can I say, I'm curious and might be looking into Arccos or something similar
  21. Love your tips, thanks for sharing! I definitely feel myself strain more as I go higher in the bag, and inconsistencies are always quick to follow. I'll have to give it a shot!
