  1. I recently got the "Shot Tracer" app on IOS to test and it seems like a cool idea, but set up is extremely important. You need to have the phone mounted to something (cannot hold it) and you need to be in the right setting (there are ones for short shots and ones for long shots) Here are a couple of quick screen shots I took of the videos it created when I tested it. Still waiting on my phone mount to come in so I can try it out on the course "Correctly". 3 photos: 1) shows if you use it in "Shot Tracer" aka Long shots, but hit a short shot...Clearly it is using the original trajectory and guessing where the ball was going to go, but you can see it landing in the yard area in front of me...Trust me I did not hit the ball down the red line. Don't think my neighbors would have liked that. I am hoping that when I get my phone mount in and try a full shot on the range/course, the tracer will be more accurate. 2) Shows the "Ball Tracer" aka short shots and hitting a short shot. Works a lot better. (no dogs were harmed in the filming of this video - he barley even notices) 3) Shows "Swing Tracer" which is more of a visual strobe of your club. This was an old video that I already had on my phone, so I am not correctly framed in the camera, but have not been to a range where I can prop my phone up yet to try this feature fully, or test the regular shot tracer on a full shot. I will also note, that the processing of these videos is pretty slow. It works faster if you film in right in the app, but for the swing tracer one (#3) because it was a longer video than this app needed, It took like 15 mins or so to do that one thing. I will try and update this post when I get a chance to try this with a more correct set up.
  2. Just put an order in for one of the new Costco KS1 Putters and it should be here in the next few days. Starting this topic for anybody else who is also getting/got one already who wants to post their thoughts on it. Exited to see how it stacks up to my other putters! Unfortunately, the weight set was sold out online right now, so I will have to go check my local stores to see if they have it, or will just have to sit back and wait/hope it comes in online again soon.
  3. I've shot 70 multiple times, but never into the 60s yet. I'll save that badge request for when I earn it (Hopefully very soon!). For now Please add a Donor Badge. I will PM you the details as well. Thank you!
  4. In my early teens I learned on a hand-me-down set of Henry Griffith Blade irons my Dad had just replaced, played those until I could break 80. Around 2005 or so, I upgraded to the Mizuno cut back MP32. Loved those clubs, but wore the grooves off the irons to the point that stores wouldn't even take them off my hands, let alone buy off me. Replaced them with the Ping iBlades the day they came out in 2016 and I expect to use them for another 5 years or so depending on how well they hold up. I am in the process of building a simple simulator set up in my yard so I expect I may be putting some additional wear and tear on them that the other clubs I used never saw.
  5. Played last weekend for the first time in a while due to Covid. Played a new course for me (Paradise Valley Golf Course in Fairfield, CA). Met up with a friend and planned to make it a fun day. We walked with push carts so we strapped a cooler to them filled with beer and headed out. Started opening the beer around the 3rd hole and kept them flowing. Shot 2 over on the front. By the time we hit the back nine, I had also thrown in a decent sized cocktail AND my friend's shoes were giving him blisters so he started to go barefoot. To keep our game fair, I took my shoes off too. With the golf layoff, drinks, and shoes added up I think I shot 12 over on the back nine alone opps...Now I see why I normally don't drink while I play (yeah I know Im boring)... Will be playing again this weekend, but might leave the beer at home and see how it goes...
  6. While I have been playing TaylorMade for a while (original RBZ --> M1 (bought for me as gift so can't complain) --> M5 (Given to me by Taylormade after I cracked the face of the M1, so again can't complain). I agree that there is no Best Driver. I firmly believe that most driver heads are good. Sure some sound better (personal opinion), some look better (personal opinion), some swing faster (person swing style), ect, ect... Basically it is a totally personal "Best". What works for you, probably won't work for me type thing. When I first got the M5 I had to go through several shafts to find one that worked with this head. I was moving from the 400cc head up to a 460cc with a different weight system and different standard CG. I think think the same process would have happened with any brand head, but probably would have ended up with a different shaft.
  7. 6 weeks ago I would totally agree!! Could not hit a draw with any club to save my life, but I can for sure cut it, even with a wedge - though people have told me AFTER Ive done it "You can't cut a wedge..." silly people... Anyways, with all this lockdown stuff going on, I have been working on some swing path things at my house and when I finally went out and played last week for the first time in a while low and behold A DRAW! Constantly. My friend I played with actually said I was drawing it too much now. Now I need to learn to control my draw!
  8. I used to have the same problem with my 3 wood. Tee it up = Duck hook...But I just ended up going to the range to groove the tee off shot and can now hit it great off the tee. Adds a few extra yards for those holes where driver is still a bit too much.
  9. When I last played there was in a turni I qualified for through NCGA. I think we were playing the white tees and found that on a couple of the doglegs me and a friend kept trying to cut the corners and ended up through the corner and fairways and thus blocked out by trees. I suggest just hitting it to the corner and taking the longer shot into the green.
  10. Thank you for detailing your experience in the putter fitting. I have been thinking about doing a putter and/or wedge fitting at my local club champion when everything settles down and it is reassuring that you had a positive experience. Best of luck with your new Putter!
  11. I have one of these on order and will hopefully be getting it delivered in the next couple of weeks. I have been watching just about any video that covers this unit in prep for when Mine gets here and from what I understand, it does NOT show face angle or club path. But does show initial direction and spin rate which can be used to deduce the other info a bit (supposedly)
  12. Hey all. New to the forum and looks like this is one of the first places recommended to post: Here is my current set up - In The Bag: Driver: M5 9.5* head set to 8* loft 3*open, weights set slightly lower Launch and fade bias 3 wood: M1 13.5* Head set open w/ Fade bias weights. Irons: I-Blades PW-3i, 2* up standard length. Wedges: Glide 1.0 TS 60*, Glide 2.0 56 ES, & Vokey 52* (I had a Ping 2.0 52* SS as well but would literally shank it 50% of the time. Finally had a friend try it and first swing he shanked it too!!...took that straight out of the bag and grabbed my old Vokey, no problems since) Putter: Sigma G Kushin . Ball: Various: AVX, B X, and currently testing the Vice Pro + Neon just for fun (I would love it/prefer if the other higher end balls came in more colors!) Since we are all suppose to be walking now... Push Cart: Sun Mountain 3 wheel Home Practice Set up: Hitting mat - Rawhide Golf Hitting Net(s) - Archery Baffel 10x8 and Rukket Haack 10X7 Launch monitor - Mevo + (as of this post on back order, but expected to ship out in the next 2-3 weeks finally) Putting Area: In the process of installing an aprox 10x15' putting green in the yard, but it still has a ways to go before it is ready. I do expect some changes in the next couple months to my golf ball selection, putter, and wedges as I tweak some things on a launch Monitor.
  13. I emailed them those same photos and just got a form email back with a link to the warranty program. They responded in about 12 hrs so pretty fast in my opinion (good start). I didn't submit any formal claims yet since it has not technically broken, but if it does I will file for one and leave an update for how the warranty process goes.
  14. Yes. TWICE! First time I was a cart boy at a local golf course and we had to rake the balls off the fence line inside the driving rage, but the course would still let people on the range while we did it. Needless to say I got hit in the thigh by a ball, but luckily it was only probably a wedge or 9i so while it hurt, I was fine. Second time I was out on the course playing with some people I got randomly paired with. I normally play with a group of decent players (4-10hdcp) so we stay off to the sides a bit, but freely walk up to our ball if we are past other people in the group. Forgetting myself, I continued this practice while not in my group and got a screamer straight at my face. Was lucky enough to get my right hand up to block it, but could barely grip a club the rest of the day. Serves me right for not following proper etiquette. Though I did save their ball from going in a lake so they were happy.
  15. I've been lucky enough to play there twice and while the course is beautiful, and absolutely should be on a golf "Bucket List" due to its history, At the prices they charge and the difficulty of getting on there, I would only see myself playing it maybe every couple of years (to be fair I live within relatively close driving distance). The but to that statement is every year they have an NCGA Discount month where the price drops a couple hundred which makes it less painful to shell out and play. I would say if your in the area, but don't want to spend quite that much, check out Spanish Bay or Spyglass. Maybe even a short trip outside 17 mile drive up to Bayonet & Black horse.
  16. I bought this net recently (got it just over a week ago) and have hit maybe 600 shots into it. The area at the mid to top looks fine (where I hit my 5i-60*), but the lower portion where my long irons, 3 wood, and driver hit looks to be fraying already. None of the stands are actually broken yet, but I am worried that they will fail soon. I have a stronger net that I was planning to use in my yard but have been hitting exclusively into the Haack net to fully test it before using it out in the work (like my works parking lot or something). I attached a photo of the top section and then the lower section so you can see what I mean about starting to fray. (White net behind the Haack Net in the photos is an Archery Backstop that I have hit about 3,000+ shots into so far with no wear showing) All shots hit from 8-12ft from net..
  17. I love the TXG Channel, but also found myself watching Alex Etches and just started watching Tyler McGhie
  18. I will mostly use a Laser range finder for my green approach shot decisions. However, I bought the GolfLogix app for my phone to give me overviews of holes I am not familiar with or if there is a shot with an obstruction that makes the range finder hard to use. My issue with using a GPS unit has to do with accuracy of pin placement on approach shots. For a Sand trap that doesn't move, I trust the info, but if I need to place the pin location by hand I can be off by several yards when guessing where the pin is from the fairway (hopefully) and end up leaving myself a more difficult shot than necessary had I had the correct yardage.
  19. How's It going Golf Spies?!? Looking forward to joining this forum to Lean and Help with golf. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? Known how to play since I was young (7ish), but really started to play in high school when I switched from Baseball to golf (couldn't hit a curveball...). That puts me at about 20 years now. Normally play about once a month. Currently playing to a 4.2 handicap. What do you love about golf? Getting away from my wife and kids! Just kidding. (Actually teaching my son how to play right now too!) Love the challenge of improving my own game without needing to worry about other people. Its also a nice break from the regular world and good exercise. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? Started watching their Youtube "No Putts Given" series and found them very informative. Do not currently know any other spies. Where are you from? What is your home course? I live in the SF Bay Area. Do not relly havew a home course though. I play most parts of the state, but if I had to CHOOSE a home course I would pick Bayonet Black Horse down in Monterey. About 1.5 hr drive, but 2 of my favorite courses to play. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? No real complaints other than maybe price. We have lots of courses and can play mostly year round. What do you do for a living? That's a long answer, but it mostly boils down to sales, Tech support, Accounting. How’d you pick your user name? Have considered starting a youtube channel (nothing doing yet though), and since I enjoy a drink or two every now and again thought that would be a good channel name.
