I'm not a believer in fitters. After 51 years I know my shaft flexes, lies, lofts and lengths very well. I have a strong grasp of smash factor, swing path and trajectory. I'm an experimenter and I'd tried just about every combo under competition.
I keep seeing all these reviewers say "see a club fitter" in response to silly questions. I'm no Hogan, but I'd hazard a guess he never saw a club fitter.
Went to a club fitter once about ten years ago when everyone was starting to hype them. Well known boutique chain.  Had a horrible experience. They are cookie cutters and work from surmises that aren't particularly sound. They want to push certain products to exclusion of others.

Arc'teryx makes things light, packable waterproof and well. I use Arc'teryx for cold weather beanie, rain jacket, and golf hat. I'm 62 and carry my own clubs and have little patience with extraneous, inefficient and poorly made items.

The hat in question weighs 1.7 ounces, is gortex, breathable, offers great uv protection and packs down to the size of my thumb. It also looks decent and doesn't crumple badly. Arc'teryx is an amazing company. https://arcteryx.com/us/en/shop/bucket-hat

Hats are central to packing if you are a golf minimalist. If it's not sunny or raining I don't wear one, but I sure need them handy when the weather shifts. It's my style to be this way. I may take the hat off several times during a round and stow it. There's not a lot of space for extra stuff in my golf bag, and the hat needs to fill a small space, for me, when not in use. It also needs to be waterproof.

I'm of Swiss ancestry. Play tournament golf at a 4 handicap and most often carry.  Plenty of mountain climbers in the family. I treat my golf accouterments like a serious mountain climber. Everything packs down or it doesn't go. Use 11 clubs, with the gap wedge doing double service as a cane. The bag is sun mountain 2.5 though I'm aware Honma has released a lighter one. 6 golf balls max. I often play in inclement weather, so gortex is a must.

Never a baseball cap. Never ever. They do almost nothing, lack style and sophistication and look bad.  Currently gaming an Arc'teryx bucket hat.

Exactly, I see tour pros who make a good living frequently 15 feet wide of their target with a wedge. That's unbelievable and unfair.  I rarely miss my driving target by 15 feet, much less a fairway 30 yards wide. If I miss my line and my window by more than 3 feet with a wedge it's a very poor shot for me.
If I could play courses 6100 yards with 10 yard wide fairways, punitive rough, and small greens that would be an equalizer. We'd see who could win. Golf would be more like ballet.

Age 62, cancer survivor here, still walking and carrying. 11 clubs, 6 golf balls, Sun Mountain 2.5 bag. I am looking at electric push carts, but so far none strikes both my eyes and my wallet.

I consider myself a feel player, but after looking at these responses, perhaps I'm not. I often use my scope on pitch shots, or when I feel it's so close as to be unnecessary I simply walk up and measure the distance as I step. I need to know the carry spot and how much roll out to expect. I play fast but compute these matters before playing the shot, almost always.
I don't know how you could play a shot confidently without knowing the precise distance you are shooting for to land and then the roll out, dictated by slope, moisture/firmness speed of greens, angle of shot selected and perhaps most important grain and even wind.  I'll even check if there are riding greensmower rings around the perimeter, which necessitates calculating an effectively smaller green so as not to get an unexpected first bounce.
It's how I've practiced all my life. I feel I have a swing for every distance down to a yard. If carry is fourteen and not fifteen I definitely want to know. If roll out is 17 and not 15, that's a six foot putt instead of a tap in.
I walk and carry, aged 62, and play 18 6,000 yards with lots of hills in about 3.25 hours.
The biggest amateur move I see comes from the golf cart. People just grab one club and a putter. I may take any one of five to seven clubs around greens, and if forced to ride will remove my bag and carry it when playing a short shot or take anywhere from 3:to seven clubs around the greens.

    Good exercise.
    Today -1 70 with 11 clubs
    13 drivers  (fwy hit - 11/13)
    5 5 woods (fwy hit - 1/1)
    0 21 hybrid
    3 7 irons
    2 8 irons
    3 9 irons
    3 PW
    2 AW
    1 49*
    5 SW
    33 putter
    GIR 16/18
But when I need the 21 hybrid I really need it, just not today, though two or three of the 5 woods could have been hybrids. I use the 49* more when I miss more greens.
