What Is The Most You Would Pay For A Putter?

After reading 9 pages of postings, guess I’m not much of a putter connoisseur. $150 would be my maximum. But I payed $199 for a TM Spider several years ago and hated it. Currently switch between a Cleveland Huntington Beach soft ($150) and Karsten Anser X  (free from brother). Also use my 50 year old Anser from time to time and it still works very well. I haven’t payed much attention to the current putter offerings as I’m not impressed with the price or looks.

I do keep my driver, irons and wedges current and an always tinkering with these. Most of the guys I compete against are decent putters but I generally have an advantage in the long game so that’s where I spend my $.

I did modify the Cleveland putter by extending it to 38” trying to match Rickie Fowler’s putter specs. Like most putters, some days they are good but sometimes their crap.

from what you say in this post, i was exactly like you with putters before I got my Lab df2. there is a significant difference between a lab and every other putter. if you can, give the df3 or a link a roll if you have to have a blade, but, you may want to leave your credit card at home deep frozen into a block of mf’ing ice if you’re dead set against joining the expensive putter haver’s club.

btw, i’m definitely jealous of your free 50 yr old anser. i’ve never hit one, only the reproductions. your brother must have been feeling guilty about something to hand over a treasure like that. 😂😂😂

This is a salient point, as far as I'm concerned.  But the reason that I got fitted for my $$$ Bettinardi was BECAUSE of look and feel.  Once I was made aware that I really did need a face balanced putter (Quantic or Sam Putting Lab, I don't remember....whichever one Club Champion uses), and I saw the available options, I wanted DATA to backup my choice.  The fitter even tried getting me to try a LAB and others, but when I saw the one I got, rolled it beautifully, it was game over.

Looks matter to me.  Maybe that's vanity or foolishness, but it does.

i had a similar experience but a different outcome. before I got my lab i had a bettinardi ss#8 i paid a friend for because i loved the dark grey finish that just ate up all the light that hit it without a hint of glare, and I loved the way the curve on the back looked so perfect, similar to a betty two step jam. i had that one stolen on course on a big drinking day for me, so i went to cc and tried putters. got down to the lab df2 and the new at the time bettinardi #17 tri sole. i hit 6 out of 7 with the #17 and 7 out of 7 with the lab. my heart wanted the #17, but my head said that perfect is a sign, so I went with the lab. I’ve never looked back. it took me a while to lock in with distance control with my lab, and the feel off the face can…not…compete with a bettinardi, but I hit my line every time and i’m a much better putter now. i still miss hitting that #8, but the lab weighting is different from traditional and i’m frankly terrified to mess up what I’ve got going on at this point.

To be fair getting fitted and buying the right putter should be whatever it costs if it works for you even if it’s £50 or £500.  You use it on every hole unless you chip in.  People will spend £550 on a driver to gain a few extra yards or better dispersion but you don’t use that on every hole.

I really don’t have a limit

My son’s have a collection of Scotty Cameron Circle T and I have the so called same retail purchased model and theirs feel completely different and I putt better with them. I got professionally fitted for a putter and if it fits your eye and it gets customized for only you then if that’s $200 or $700 it is the best fit for you. Most people because of their lack of proper mechanics during the putter stroke need to fix that first.

In golf culture in general it's ok to pay a lot for a driver or a set of irons.  Paying loads of money for a putter used to be almost taboo.  But after Scotty Cameron and the rest of the gang things have been changing fast.

I spent money on a LAB putter I would've never imagined before.  My old man who is 80 says I'm crazy and that so much $ never makes the difference on the green🤔

I paid $800 after tax for one of those Scotty Cameron Triple Black Santa Fe's a little over a month ago when they were released. Then I came to realize if I 3 putt with an $800 putter, then I'd probably have to quit 😂. The Mizuno I have now cost $260 from my local course pro shop and had $200 in gift cards saved up so can't beat that for a milled putter.

Look at PGA stats for 3 putts. No putter or skill level will prevent you from 3 putting.   Number 164 on the list of 3 putts avoidance or worse 4.56% of the time. There are players that have 3 putted from inside 5 feet.   So no reason to quit even the best with their custom fit $10k Cameron putters  3 putt.  😁

Oh I three putt plenty, it would just hurt more with an $800 putter. Kinda like buying a Ferrari when driving skill is that of a Honda haha, gonna hurt more when you wreck it.

Funny story, I was riding around with my father-in-law and brother-in-law in May for the Father-Son tournament every May at Linville Golf Club (he only has daughters so we swap off every year playing), and the day before in their alternate shot round, neither could putt so they both went into the pro shop after and bought two new TM Spider Tour X putters and on their first hole, there was a 3 putt and a 4 putt. When they got back to the cart, I said "did ya'll save the receipts for them putters?"

Needless to say, it was a bit quite for a couple holes 😂

I have just paid $700 for my new LAB DF3 custom built shaft upgraded putter and would do it all again.  100% difference maker.

I agree. Just played my first round with the LAB DF3. Best money I have spent. I’m not a great putter and sure I could take lessons and play more…. Or just buy a putter that really helps me out. Just like those size 38 pants. Sure I could go to the gym and eat better too so I can wear those 34’s but… ain’t nobody got time for that.

How much you spent is subjective. I dropped $550 on that putter and didn’t think anything of it. Some of my co workers gasped at the cost and then get in their 100,000 cars and drive off. I think 100k for a car is crazy and I work at a dealer. lol.

I think it was $59 for the PING on sale.  That’s about my max.

you are like me i look for deals on equipment.  i never buy new clubs i wait until they are a couple years old (new old clubs) which are typically more than half off the original price.

About $200 max and I would find it used. Currently, Mizuno TP Mills #9. If I wanted a newer putter, I would research Cleveland's Huntington line. But my $$$ would be better spent on lessons and practice. Best, Marv

I have a cleveland huntington putter and i can vouch that they are great putters
