... Performance is king. But clubs can't look bad in the address position or it leaves doubt before even starting your swing. I used to be very particular but I have learned to accept more through the years, although it still has to look at least OK at address. If performance is a toss up I go with what looks better to my eye.

... I would add if T200's look chunky to you 🫣  there aren't many irons that will look much "less chunky" at address. The thinnest top line of any players distance iron and you can't see the back of the club at address with a mid/small head size and shape. The P790's look pretty good imo, although the top line is a little thicker than I like but if they out performed my T200's I would play them. For me, the P790's don't produce enough spin to hold hard, fast desert greens but were really nice when I played them in soft Midwest courses. The new P-770's look awesome at address with a smaller head and a thinner top line.

Maybe it is because I test lots of clubs for MGS but looks at address doesn't bother me much. Sure I like a nice looking iron versus a thick bulky club but it really comes down to performance first.   I've hit clubs that look great horribly and clubs that look terribly very well.    the way a clubs looks does nothing for my confidence it all comes down to how the ball flies.

I stopped by the local PGA Tour Superstore to take a look at some clubs I’ve been researching. I’ve had it in my mind something like a P790, MP245 or T200 is probably the right class of club for me. When I hold those though I struggle with how chunky they look at setup. The MP243 was the only “next step” they had in the store and it looked so much better to me when side by side. It’s more so that I held one and felt confident when I looked down vs unsettled. I’ve had OLD TaylorMade LCG irons forever and I’ve never felt settled when I try out newer clubs because of the size, thickness and offset. How much should I let something like this influence?

(Yesterday) I spent some time yesterday working on the mechanics of a low-flighted, spinning pitch shot, as I was disappointed in a round the other day with how much the ball was rolling out. I did a little work with an alignment stick extending the shaft of my lob wedge, doing some "ribcracker" practice swings, then hit around 35 balls from a mat on my patio at a Home Depot bucket 15 yards away. Not good. I had probably half those head straight into the grass 3 yards away at a 45 degree angle from the target. I realized I need to change my weight distribution a little (keep it on the lead leg a little more) as I think I was blading the ball with an open club face. I then hit another round of 35, all of which landed near the target this time. There was still too much variability in the flight height, so will probably keep at this for a bit.

Rode the bike over to the course with my son for some chipping and putting. Putting green was busy today so we didn’t get to play our usual “round”. Lots of work today on breaking uphill putts trying to not leave anything low.

Three straight weekends painting my basement. Walls were all wood paneling so we sanded and cleaned up the first weekend, and also ripped out the 80s wet bar. Tried out a sprayer for the actual painting and did both the walls (white) and ceiling (black). Found it pretty good for doing the ceiling but lots of spray settled onto things below. All in all not sure I’d go that route again for rooms. I’m trying to decide now if I have enough energy to bike over to the course with my son for some work on the putting green.

Testers, curious how you all arrived at your shaft selections. I see the stock selections are the HZRDOUS red/blue/black in the 60/70g options.  Was it largely based on what you had in the clubs you were looking to replace? Did any of you speak with Sub70? I've been intrigued by the brand and am about an hour away from their physical location and been kicking around the idea of driving down there for a fitting.

I'm seeing the same. I have a natural fade bias but when I go after it,  it really shows. Ive noticed my ball position plays a larger factor in the fade. When I'm able to focus my swing inside out I get a fairly straight flight. I'm just not able to repeat that very consistently yet.
I did some research before I made my selection of the blue smoke in 70g. I like to think I have a moderate swing tempo,  though I'm starting to get a faster tempo, and the blue smoke was the only one suggested for moderate. I chose the 70g due to suggestions of having your woods shafts slightly heavier than your driver and mine is 60-65g. I didn't chat with anyone from Sub70 though. I'd definitely go check out their place if I was only an hour away. I hope this helps

For me, I chase the HZRDUS Blue because I’ve hit it in woods before and I wanted a mid spin model. A fitting is always best, but I feel like I got something that fits me well.

Day 197 (2 Aug 24)  - worked with the 50deg wedge in the backyard focused on hitting specific target distances (thinking from the rough around the green).

Dispersion depths can be deep:  https://hackmotion.com/shot-dispersion-in-golf/    Best to pick the middle and know that some will be short and some will be long.

Accept what you do — good, bad, indifferent. Hit the ball, find it, do it again … You are what the score is — No what ‘if’ or ‘had I done this (that)’  — I’ve found that taking ‘club up to back of green’ has been the best advice/recommendation/suggestion to higher GIR & lower scores.

Good article! A few things that came to mind as I was reading:
I find myself doing this a lot, especially around the greens, which really wasn't the focus of the article but I say the same words. For some reason, I tend to look at getting to the green as the "hard part" and therefore get a little dismissive about the 3 strokes it takes to get in from 50ft. I especially liked the quote you are aiming your whole shot pattern. Two things I've heard recently about this An observation that amateurs tend to come up short on their approach distances because that one time... The suggestion was to use center of green yardages for front hole locations and back of green yardages for center/back locations, but now that I think about it that might just be treating the big lie symptom For those that aren't using something like Arccos, I heard the idea of "Aimpoint from the fairway", which is to get an understanding of your left/right dispersion compared to the target line and represent that in "number of fingers left/right" of the target line.

Only an hr, what are you waiting for?? It takes me an HR to get to the airport, fly for 4 hrs into Chicago and then drive an hr to The 70. Then 40 minutes to my daughters place in Aurora. Get over there.

I really like the Tour AD chart for visually representing the relationship between their offerings. Does anyone know of a visual or interactive tool that does this across manufacturers?

I found this -- iPhone voice command
His demonstration is for taking a single picture hands-free.  The "macro" is for "pressing" the button on the phone app.
I created exactly the same action naming it "swing".  So instead of opening the camera app for pictures, open it and switch to video
say "swing" and it starts recording say "swing" again and it stops I just tested the process at my desk and it works.  Assumedly I can take a phone stand to the range and record a series of videos by voice command.
