Sorry to hear that man. No matter what, listen to the med professionals and don't push yourself beyond what you can do just to make a Sep or Oct tee time. Heal it up proper and good luck man. Keep us in the loop.

Best score this year. 39-37   Had great putting and chipping day.  Didn’t get into any trouble from the tee. It was easy short course without much water or tree  and the green were slow and flat.   I been having problems with my short game and trying new swings  but I think I lot of my confidence is just going back and using my right hand and  arm as predominant lever for short putts

... Same in Chicago, mostly flat courses. I think that is why I will never take my winter home course for granted here in Phoenix as the views are still awe inspiring after playing here for 5 years. Nothing quite like launching a drive high and into the mountain back drop and then watching it fall to the fairway.

Thanks!  I've been seeing alot of ADS for mini monitors lately from Amazon. Something like this may be great for my backyard net or range days

That is the PRGR radar, got it with my super speed sticks a while back. Its pretty great simple radar system only really captures ball and swing speed, and can do swing speed by itself without a ball so good for speed training. Pretty accurate given its size and price.

Got out last night for a quick 9. Played better than in recent rounds. Driver was in shape which is a real plus was hitting a nice controlled draw with good pop for my speeds. Went +3 for a 39 still leaving some shots out there as the short game is just not quite there yet with no real ups and downs to write home about. Though there was one chip on the par 5 6th where the ball was sitting down on small down slope next to the green and popped out a low running 58 that rolled out to about 3 feet which was awesome.
Also hit some practice shots from 50, 60, and 80 yards which was great to get a feel for, and is usually hard to practice. Finally, the 50 degree is quickly becoming my favorite. Maxes out at 115 and hit it twice at that length and then twice more for a feel 100 to 110 shot and all were hit well and 4 out of 5 hit the green, and the one miss was the 58 chip mentioned above, though one came after a punch out. So if I can just leave 100 to 115 into every hole I should be rocking it.
Some photos of the course, and the best drive of the day, long term goal is 110 and 165 on course.

Was able to sneak in a round of 9 at Riverfront Golf course here in Suffolk, Va. Played here before but usually about 8 months before i come back even tho it’s a beautiful course with fair pricing. Greens are always fast with tons of elevation changes so thats always fun for a high handicapper.

Felt great from the rip with little warm up. Driver was consistent contact wise even tho i was just short of carrying the water due to an over draw on hole 6, irons were consistent just working to clean up the inconsistent fade, & putting was good when i didn't overthink the speed(yes i did putt off the green twice 🤦🏻‍♂️)
Have been having major contact issues with my Hybrids so needing to figure that out…

Beautiful scenery out there.  whenever I see hill/mountains in the background it is always beautiful.   East coast golf is basically flat

    Funny you mention this...
I did this in league last night, at a course I'm not a member at. The course that I AM a member at, I play league tonight. The members have the reverse hole in one rule, that whoever got it gets to drink for free that night....and many...MANY following nights.

I have that same problem, I don’t know why I think I’m holding up play or that the group behind me even notices. So I rush and make mistakes which probably ultimately takes longer.

Good question/topic here. I feel like I'm not slow but certainly not fast. On the greens I always read from the other end of the green and typically a quick look at the side, to gauge speed primarily. I try to do this while others are getting ready to putt to speed up my turn of course. But this is more than most average golfers do. And then on the fairways it just takes an extra 5-10 seconds to scope the flag and put back my scope so these things might add a little time but not much. I agree w/ you and do play better when I slow things down and really invest in each shot. But I try to be aware of pace of play both within my group and behind us too.

I guess in some way it depends on what you consider taking your time means.
Each person is different. I am a fast player and have a low handicap. Most of the sub 10 caps I play with are fast players. We are assessing everything as we are driving to our balls and by time we get there we have an idea about what the lie/stance is, where the pin is, what’s in front of us and an idea about distance. Once at the ball it’s a final few checks, whatever ones preshot routine is and then hit the ball.

I used to play with a couple guys that I would consider as people who “take their time” and they never improved their game or played better as a result

This may be a controversial post but I would like to pose the question - Is the greatest way to approve your handicap is taking your time?
I have been playing golf since I was an early teenager (I am 47 now), it seems like since the spike in the interest of golf which seems to have started with Covid, courses have been more aggressive with pace of play. This is understandable as golf courses now fill up tee times a lot faster and the demand for play has increased.
For the last 4 years the push by courses and rangers, some with the expectation of a sub 4 hr round, has seemed to become a lot more prevalent. It could just be my experience so please let me know if you are experiencing the same.
Recently I was able to play a round on my own which allowed me the opportunity to take more time on my shots both on and off the green. I didn't rush any shot, took my time to read both putts and chips, thought about the best play. My handicap hovers between 5 and 6, with most my rounds landing somewhere in the high 70's and sometimes (more often than I would like) creeping into the 80's. This round took me about 4.5 hours with really no waiting on groups, and no groups behind me pushing me. I ended up shooting a +1 73 on a pretty difficult course. Both my greens in regulations and number of putts were really the key, scoring a career high in both (well as long as I have been tracking).
Don't get a twisted, I am subject to frustration at slow play as much as the next person, and I understand the number of strokes does make a huge different, as if a 15+ handicap playing this way may have a much longer round. Also being a lower handicap gets you opportunity of playing with more time, especially if you are longer in general.
However the question remains, is having more time for round, the biggest impact to your handicap especially if you already have clubs fitted to you?

I guess I'd give up 10 yards for a 10-15% increase in fairways.

Managed to squeeze 9 holes in this afternoon. Missed some opportunities for birdie and on the last hole (a par 3) managed to chip one in for a 2. That saved me and got me to 39. Birdie?? Nah. Not to be. Got to hit it Alice. 2" short doesn't count.

Took one of the grandboys out last night. Hit the course at 5:30. I let him tee off at the 150 marker and 5 or six shots later he'd be on the green. 3 or 4 later "in the hole". Let 4 or 5 groups pass us to keep things flowing. I let him drive a little bit. He only lost 1 ball which was decent. I'm sure we could have found it but it landed in a patch of poison ivy and I wasn't brave enough to try and find it. On the 7th hole he actually had a nice drive of about 120 yards and put his second on the green. 3 putted but almost had a par when he yells at me. Grandpa!! I got to poop!! So off we go to the clubhouse. So we left afterwards and since I so seldom ever use a cart I forgot to collect my phone. Took him home, headed back and of course they had already washed the cart... and my phone. Still drying it out. Damn!! I love being a grandpa.
