  1. I'll be interested to see what the tester feedback is on these. Not looking to replace my current putter grip, but I could be tempted! Another great opportunity thanks to the hard work and dedication of our forum moderators, and of course, Garsen Golf!

  2. Been a little intimated to get the net back out if I'm honest lol. I've also just been crazy busy as my wife has been traveling more for her job lately. The good news is I was able to get the garage cleaned up a bit and should have enough space to leave it up for a couple days this week while she's away.

  3. Last week before the winter storm made its way through Texas, I got the net out along with a new add-on for a bit of practice.

I've been wanting a large hitting mat so I wouldn't always be practicing with the ball above my feet. After a bit of research, I decided to do something a bit unconventional to save some money...

For ~$45 at my local Tractor Supply, I was able to pick up a 4'x6'x3/4" horse stall mat. The idea first came to me thanks to previous research I had done on home gym flooring options and then I discovered plenty of golfers who fashioned their own hitting mats this way. However, I wasn't satisfied with the time, cost, or quality of the materials they were using. It just seemed to me that I'd run into the same issues that were preventing me from pulling the trigger on any of the hitting mats in my price range. So, I opted to simply cut the mat in half and notch it to fit my Callaway Launch Zone mat. It works great! The best part is when I've worn out the mat, I simply go purchase a new, significantly smaller, and less expensive mat (compared to full size hitting mats). Since the horse stall mat is only supporting my feet and dealing with the torque created by them, it should last quite a while and I've got a backup ready to go in storage!

I do intend to replace the Callaway Launch Zone with a slightly larger mat, just in case I were to stay down on a shot a bit too long and catch the lip created by the notch. I hate to even imagine what that would feel like!

In other news, the Spornia Net continues to hold up well and fulfill my needs. I will report that I did manage to miss the net though 🙈. I still do not know with great detail exactly what happened, but I was working on some position drills and one of the things I like to do is make a VERY slow-motion swing and then "sweep" the ball into the net so I get more of feel for impact. Apparently, I started the "sweep" motion a bit early and made poor contact because the ball shot right between the post and the net, hit the brick wall, and ricocheted into a neighbor's yard. I don't even know which neighbor, but I am happy to report I didn't hear any broken glass. After waiting to see if anyone would start yelling, I quickly packed everything back up and headed inside! LOL!

I think I may be investing in some foam balls just to play it safe 😂.

  4. Go figure today is the nicest it will be for a while; I already wasn't going to be able to golf because of other commitments, but then I woke with terrible sinus pressure and can't even muster a swing to practice into the net.

How are the other reviewers getting along now that winter has set in?

Finally got back in town and was able to use the net with my “contact stickers” which I’d never used before. Gives good feedback and made the net more fun in my opinion. Still trying to just focus on short swings with good fundamentals and solid contact.

Nice! I haven't been able to use the net the past few weeks, but I did pick up something for it that I'll have to share when the weather clears up a bit here.

Plus it takes about 2x the amount of time to set up and take down as the rest of the net.

Yep! I have been getting faster with this, but it's still a pain.

EDIT: Here's a quick timelapse of the setup process to try and demonstrate what we're all talking about.

I plan to do another run (setup & teardown) w/ a timer at some point.

So for you all testers, is this net in the goldilocks range? I. E. It isn't too small, it isn't too big, it's sized just right.

I would say so, especially for a net that's this easy to setup and teardown. I've never used it, but one reason why I hadn't bothered with the Rukket pop-up net is because of it's triangular shape which would seemingly leave more room for error. As of right now, I'm slightly torn as to whether I like the Spornia better than my old Rukket Haack net - there are pro's and con's to both. I wish I still had the Rukket to do a direct comparison - it's possible (even likely) that fond memories of my first (real) net cloud my judgement.

  8. Wanted to provide a little more detail from earlier. Put the net up in my garage and took some measurements. I couldn't quite get centerline measurements without help, but it'd probably add less than half an inch. As measured, the net is 6'9" deep x 6'9" wide x 6'6" tall w/o roof (7'6" tall w/ roof). I'd estimate that for use with driver you'd need a space approximately 14' x 9' x 9' (expand that to 15' x 10' x 10' if you want to feel a bit more comfortable). Note, I am 5'11" w/ a 6' wingspan and using a ~45" driver.

Needless to say, my garage was a bit cramped and I couldn't use more than 8 iron comfortably - even then, I nearly took out the overhead fluorescent light 😬.

Also, I decided that since I was in a safe? space, I'd do a bit of wedge testing. Grabbed my 58* and hit a few soft flops. The roof did an excellent job at grabbing the shots I hit, but I have little doubt you could flop one over the net even while standing as close as possible. I hope to take this net to a local driving range and test this theory further 😉.

So how much total room do you guys think someone would need to have this net setup and be able to full swing?

I'll have to get back to you on that. It was already on my to-do list, but every time I set this thing up to have a session I forget when I go to take it down lol. I will say that I took some quick measurements when I first got the net and it does come in slightly smaller than what's listed on the website - which is good in terms of the space required.

Also, if the hitting net was set up against a wall behind it, would there be any concern that the ball would hit the wall before the net slowed it down?

The net seems to do an excellent job of slowing the ball down on center impact, but as you work closer to the edges of the impact screen there is an increased risk of a ball bouncing back at you. That said, whatever room you would need behind the net is not much and is basically built into the net. What I mean is that the back wall of the net does not sit up at a perfect 90*, it has a slight amount of forward lean creating space between the bottom of the frame and the impact zone. So yeah, you could pretty much setup against a wall and not have any problems IMO.

Yeah I did pick up the side net attachment and have one on the right hand side just in case. I think it is more getting used to the space you have coming from a cage. I will hopefully be able to have another go in the next few days. I have a 5ft x 5ft hitting mat to that I put right up against it on the 2nd time round yesterday.

I'd think you should be perfectly fine to go at it then. I do understand the hesitation coming from a full on cage though; that makes perfect sense!

Just had a quick hit of mine after it was delivered today. I was pretty tentative at the start, only really going after an 8 and down full.

I used my rapsodo and the numbers seemed pretty decent. I didnt set it up all that cautiously, and was just swinging in slides but i am pretty happy.

How long did it take all of you to get comfortable swinging properly? I dont think I would ever be 100% comfortable with a driver.

Are you worried about a ball going through the net or missing the net? I personally wouldn't worry about a ball going through, the net is constructed of quality materials and can easily stand up to my driver swings (~155 MPH avg. ball speed). If you're afraid a ball might fly astray and miss the net, I'd ask how close/far are you setup from the net when hitting? The design of the net allows you to setup really close to it (depending on your space) which greatly reduces the chance of a ball missing. If it is a concern though, you could always look into their side net attachments.

do you think that this could be used with a radar-based launch monitor like the rapsodo?

I had a 10ftx10ftx10ft hitting cage, but with the most severe weather i have seen the steel frame failed. I thought about taking it down but it takes a long time.

I really like how easy this looks to set up and take down, but wondering if there is enough space to hit into without going too far back for a MLM.

    Thanks for the reviews all.

Follow @revkev's review closely. He has a Rapsodo and has already shared some initial thoughts on this. As far as setup/teardown with this net, it is very fast and easy (if you skip the "roof" portion which is what Spornia's setup video on their site shows). Literally about one minute even if going straight from the bag. Teardown is just as easy, but tack on a little more time to put everything back in the bag.

Got to use this bad boy some more today

Got mine out today as well after a crazy week. Set it up on the back patio and took some video (which I'll share later). Theoretically, I have enough room for driver, but I don't feel comfortable with it. One minor change in my follow through and I'll break a club for sure. May have to play around with placement. For now, here's a pic of me with 7 iron.

I'm really surprised by the carry bag getting a hole in it already, it does look like bad stitching. Mine's held up the last year and I'm sure yours is an anomaly. It does suck and I hate you're having to deal with it.

Not the end of the world - a little duct tape for now will keep things together. lol

From a real practical side, what would make this bet better or worse?

I'll definitely be collecting some thoughts on this (already have a few). For starters, a hole has formed in the bottom of the carry bag (most likely due to bad stitching). Nonetheless, I would prefer to see the carry bag made from a canvas material like the bag for my old Rukket Haack Net.

Also, not that much can be done about it, I would note the size of this net when folded up and placed in the bag; it's a bit larger (and heavier) than I would have expected. The upside of course is that it is fairly flat and would easily fit in all but the most compact of trunks if taking it somewhere in the car.
