  1. Day 2 of our "Ryder Cup" today. First match was alternate shot and my partner and I won with 2 up and 1 to go. Match 2 was another alternate shot and we were all square going into #9. My team 2 putts for a par, our opponents miss a short putt to lose the match. Match 3 was four ball. After 5 holes, I've had 5 pars and we're up by 4. My partner asks me if I plan on making birdie anytime soon. I replied that I'm working on it. Hole 6 is a short par 4 and I put a wedge about 6 feet from the pin. My partner makes par, tying our opponents par and I never get to try for the birdie before they concede the match with us 4 up and 3 to go. My record so far is 4-1-1. Tomorrow is singles match play. My team is leading, but I'm not real sure by how much.
  2. First day of our "Gold Cup" (Ryder cup) tournament today. 2 12 man teams that qualified throughout the year by points faced one another. Today's matches were FourBall in the morning and Alt shot in the afternoon. My FourBall match was disappointing. My partner only contributed on 2 holes and those were to tie my score, as he was having a really tough day. We were 2 up with 3 to play and I was in command of the 8th hole. All I had to do was get it on the green and 2 putt (par 5). From 135 yards, I mishit my iron and landed in the sand trap. My opponent chipped fairly close for his 4th shot. My sand shot got out alright but I caught too much sand and left myself a long putt. My par putt missed on the high side and went a bit past the hole. My opponent missed his par putt and was still away and missed that putt as well. I had a 2 foot putt to tie the hole and win the match....and, you guessed it, pushed it and missed. Lost the next hole when my approach shot once again found the sand and buried in the lip. I made 5 but my opponent made a nice putt for par. My partner was no help on either of these holes. I did not play the 2nd set of matches. Third match was alternate shot and my partner and I closed them out 3 up with 2 to play (different partner than 1st match). Fourth match I had another partner and we got skunked by a duo that was draining putts from everywhere and we lost 4 down with 3 to go. Tomorrow is another round of the same format. I'll be playing both of the alternate shot matches in the morning and the first afternoon four ball match. Sunday is head to head match play. So far I'm 1-1-1.
  3. Mediocre performance today. Ball striking and putting was off just enough. Carded an 83 for the round.
  4. Was playing a decent round today, not great, but not bad....putts weren't falling and just burning edges on several putts.....and then disaster strikes on #14 with a triple bogey followed by a double on #16. Limped in with an 83 for the round.
  5. Yep, about a month ago. I still have our 2013 EZ Go gas cart, as well. That's now my wife's cart (although she takes this one often).
  6. If we're showing off carts....here's mine....I was there at the right time....this is a used 2022 cart that was bought in March and used only a few times. The original owner was transferring out of the area and couldn't keep the cart. I got it at a significantly reduced price over new and it was exempt from state sales tax because it was used!
  7. Go with the Club Car because of the aluminum frame. I have a Club Car Onward Li Ion cart and love it. A lot of the members here have Club Car, both electric (lead acid and Li-Ion) and gas and most are happy. Yamaha and EzGo also make fine carts, but as you indicated, the steel frame in a coastal area is a consideration....of course, you could always apply undercoating or rust resistant paint to the frame, but that's a pain to do correctly.
  8. With 2 penalty shots (both water hazards (#4 par 3 and #17 par 4, saving bogey on both holes), I shot a 78. 17 putts on the front 9 (40) and 12 putts on the back 9 (38). But, that's really deceiving information. Although there were only 29 putts for the round, it's more telling that I didn't make any birdies, so all those 1 putts (including 2 that were from off the green and I didn't count as a putt) were to save par. Still, I'm pleased with the round (no doubles!!!!). 6 bogeys, 12 pars.
  9. Today's shot of the day came on a par 3. My tee shot found the bank and bounced back into the water. Dropping my ball in the designated drop area, my 3rd shot (after the penalty) wedge flew true and bounced around the cup/pin and came to rest an inch from holing out, leaving a tap in bogey.
  10. 2 birdies and two double bogeys to card an 80. Other than a lateral hosel rocket 7 iron, ball striking wasn't too bad. Not a lot of GIR on the front side (42) which improved on the back (38). The correlation of GIR to scoring was once again proven to me.
  11. Spend as much time as possible on the putting practice greens prior to teeing off. Grain is, indeed, a considerable factor on Bermuda greens and will influence speed and break on each and every putt far more than you've experienced with Bent grass greens. Learn how to read the grain.
  12. See Tom's answer above. However, if you have deep pockets, the proper thought process is that closer to the hole is always better....so go for it!
  13. I remember that driver. I played with a guy that used it.
  14. I'm going out on a limb here, but aren't you supposed to use the face of the driver, not the crown, to hit the ball?
  15. My shot of the day was a beautiful shot out of the green side bunker that came to rest 2 feet from the pin. Alas, that euphoria came to an end when I realized that although the ball brand was the same as I was playing, it wasn't my ball.
  16. Condolence to you and yours for you loss and here's to a speedy and complete recovery for you!
  17. Today's format for our group was 3 best ball gross (max double bogey). My team (A, B, C, and D players) started out with my par and their 3 doubles followed by my par and their 3 doubles ... Not a good start for sure. Things didn't get all that much better for the rest of the round. I stumbled on the par 3s badly -- dropped 2 balls in the water on #4, dropped another on #7 (and I typically retire a golf ball due to wear rather than lose one) and then doubled another par 3 (just not because of water). I shot an 83 for the day (4 over my course handicap). My team mates came in with a 93, 95, and 95. We did not place (unless you count DFL as placing ). But, as always, we had fun and that's why I play golf.
  18. Seriously? You revive a 9 year old post to name call and insult people as your first post on a forum? Nice introduction to define yourself. Welcome to the forum, in spite of all that.
  19. Indeed! Note to those scuffing their golf balls on the cart paths....the fairway or green is the preferred landing area!
  20. Interesting and disappointing round today. I shot 11 over on the round....sadly 9 of those were on the front 9....45/38.
  21. Off to a slow start today. 3 putted the first hole for a bogey, then bogeyed #2 (although to be fair, this hole I am happy with a bogey as it's one that I can't reach in two normally), then on the par 5 #3, I toe jammed the driver OB and made a double. My 8 iron off the tee on the par 3 was a pull hook that nearly found the pond, but ended up pin high in the grass area between the rocks around the pond and the green. By the time the fourth player teed off, the rains began.....and rain it did! For the next 20 minutes we took cover from the downpour beneath the trees, as much as that did. It rained hard and fast, leaving standing water on the greens and rivers running through the fairways. When it subsided, we headed for the clubhouse, knowing that the course was going to be unplayable for the immediate future. When I got home, I noted the rain gauge on my porch showed 0.8 inches in the 30 minutes or so of rain. Another friend that lives on the other side of the course than I (closer to where we were waiting for the rain to stop) said his gauge read 1.4 inches. The good news is that after being +4 after 3 holes, I didn't finish playing. Hopefully, I would have righted the ship, but then again....maybe not!
  22. Kudos to you for your integrity. With regards to roots, my club will often play a "no rocks/roots" free drop (but not for tournament play). I see the rule get stretched unfairly (i.e. taking relief under the guise of roots only to get a better lie and clear shot to the green) and find it silly to play it sometimes and not others. Personally, I would prefer to not see that rule (or the "leaf rule" for the same reasoning) allowed as a penalty free drop.
