  1. Yeah, nothing worse than being the medalist in your foursome and losing $$ in the side games.
  2. That may be our best weather for the next few days.
  3. I recently put a Cleveland CBX-2 60* wedge into my bag. I like it!
  4. Other than a good bicycle lock, I'm not looking for anything in particular and certainly nothing that I'm willing to go out into traffic/mob mentality at a store to get!
  5. I can tell you about my team today. I played the regular tees beside a guy not quite 40 and another in his 50's. The guy 2 years older than me qualified to play the senior tees. I was the short knocker ALL DAY long! On average, the two younger guys were 75 yards ahead of me, and in some cases even more. A humbling day
  6. Tale of two days... Yesterday, I started off with a lost ball off the tee box and a resulting double and ended the round with a hit the wrong ball 2 stroke penalty triple, along with 2 more doubles and another triple for an 86. Today, had nothing but pars and bogies for a 79. After the new year, when weather permits, I'm going to spend some time with the pro figuring out how I can improve getting off the tee box. It's killing me!
  7. Went 30 years without an ace and finally got one. Didn't see it actually fall because the pin was tucked. My low score has never broken par, but a lot of 73-75 rounds. Can't seem to break that barrier. Would rather shoot a low round than another ace. Don't have to buy the bar a round with a low round like you do with an ace
  8. 3 man scramble today. I, personally, played poorly. Ball striking wasn't good, at all. As a team, we shot in the middle of the pack. But, the weather was good! edit .... turns out we were 0.5 strokes out of the cash (net score)
  9. Got 6 holes in before the rain and cold winds prompted us to call it off. 1 over thru 6.
  10. A father, son and grandson went to the country club for their weekly round of golf. Just as they reached the first tee, a beautiful young blonde woman carrying her bag of clubs approached them. She explained that the member who brought her to the club for a round of golf had an emergency that called him away and asked the trio whether she could join them. Naturally, the guys all agreed. Smiling, the blonde thanked them and said, 'Look, fellows, I work in a topless bar as a dancer, so nothing shocks me anymore. If any of you want to smoke cigars, have a beer, bet, swear, tell off-color stories or do anything that you normally do when playing a round together, go ahead. But, I enjoy playing golf, consider myself pretty good at it, so don't try to coach me on how to play my shots.' With that the guys agreed to relax and invited her to drive first. All eyes were fastened on her shapely behind as she bent to place her ball on the tee. She then took her driver and hit the ball 270 yards down the middle, right in front of the green. The father's mouth was agape. 'That was beautiful,' he said. The blonde put her driver away and said, 'I really didn't get into it, and I faded it a little.' After the three guys hit their drives and their second shots, the blonde took out an eight iron and lofted the ball within five feet of the hole. (She was closest to the pin.) The son said, 'Damn, lady, you played that perfectly.' The blonde frowned and said, 'It was a little weak, but even an easy seven would have been too much club. I've left a tricky little putt.' She then tapped in the five-footer for a birdie. Having the honors, she drove first on the second hole, knocked the heck out of the ball, and it landed nearly 300 yards away smack in the middle of the fairway. For the rest of the round the statuesque blonde continued to amaze the guys, quietly and methodically shooting for par or less on every hole. When they arrived at the 18th green, the blonde was three under par, and had a very nasty 12-foot putt on an undulating green for a par. She turned to the three guys and said, 'I really want to thank you all for not acting like a bunch of chauvinists and telling me what club to use or how to play a shot, but I need this putt for a 69 and I'd really like to break 70 on this course. If any one of you can tell me how to make par on this hole I'll take him back to my apartment, pour some 35-year-old Single Malt Strath Mill Scotch in him, fix him a steak dinner and then show him a very good time the rest of the night.' The yuppie son jumped at the thought! He strolled across the green, carefully eyeing the line of the putt and finally said, 'Honey, aim about 6 inches to the right of the hole and hit it firm. It will get over that little hump and break right into the cup.' The father knelt down and sighted the putt using his putter as a plumb. 'Don't listen to the kid, darlin', you want to hit it softly 10 inches to the right and let it run left down that little hogback, so it falls into the cup.' The old gray-haired grandfather walked over to the blonde's ball, picked it up and handed it to her and said, 'That's a gimme, sweetheart’. The blonde smiled and said, 'Your car or mine?' OLD AGE AND TREACHERY WILL OVERCOME YOUTH AND SKILL EVERY TIME.
  11. Started poorly, bogeying 5 of the first six holes but ultimately shot 78 today. Only one birdie, although I had at least 3 very reasonable attempts that I missed.
  12. Meanwhile, I just ordered another 2 dozen MTB-X in yellow....even though I still have 4 dozen white MTB-X in standby. They work great for me. Just goes to show that just because a ball works well for one person, it may not work for the next.
  13. Driver was killing me today. No clue what was going on, but it was ugly. 2 OB drives and countless really not so hot drives. Shot an 84. On a plus note, took the Cleveland CBX-2 60* wedge out today for the first time and was quite happy with its performance. Really nice spin and check on short chips, nice stop on full shots, solid feel. Didn't have any sand shots with it today, though. It sets up nicely and looks good looking down on it. On the practice green before teeing off, I hit a variety of shots with it, ranging from square chips to opening the blade for higher flops.
  14. I believe our season ends Nov 30th in Oregon and begins again March 1.
  15. I just bought a Cleveland CBX 2 60* wedge today. Will be playing it tomorrow. Results to follow.
  16. Great question. I chose short game, specifically short chips, as my most troubling aspect of the game. I practice a lot and generally do decent, controlling trajectory and distance with clean strikes. On the course, however, my brain disengages and, despite knowing exactly HOW to chip, my hands suddenly get a mind of their own and it's ugly. Not every shot, but frequently enough to be a problem for me. 20-75 yards aren't typically a problem -- it's those pesky short shots that get me.
  17. Limited time offer. Not sure how long (I deleted the email, since I have 4 dozen sitting here already)
  18. Ho hum 82. I lost interest and focus about half way through the round.
  19. I don't recall, but I think it was fairly low (and expensive for what it was). I used a tincture that was placed under the tongue.
  20. didn't do a thing for my joint pains (arthritis)
  21. The only way to know would be to try. No one on here can tell you which ball will fit you better. Personally, I like the MTB-X better than that Black and find it performs well and within my own variables with any of the premium balls costing nearly twice as much. When I determine what ball I prefer to play, I start from the green and work out. For me, I prefer to know how it's going to perform on my approach shots, greenside wedge shots, and putter feel over distance off the tee.
  22. Yes, I understand, and I do post every round that I play during our posting season. My point is that the course should continue to play summer rules as long as possible, unless conditions warrant otherwise. Case in point is this year. Our weather has been beautiful and, with the exception of leaves falling, the course is in every bit as good of shape as it is in September, yet our course went to winter rules based on a calendar rather than conditions. They do the same thing come spring and continue to play preferred lies far too long (in my opinion, which holds very little value in the grand scheme of things). But, I digress.....back to our regular channel....How'd you play today?
  23. @pulledabill Well, we're playing winter rules and, in my opinion, if you're bumping the ball, you shouldn't post .... but I'm playing games with others doing it, so I'm not going to handicap myself by playing it down. New handicap system goes into effect Jan 1 ... wondering what the OGA is going to do. Previously, they used to keep 2 lowest tournament scores for a year (assuming lower than the other 10). With new rules being worldwide, guess that's got to change. You hear anything on that with OGA?
  24. 80 today -- no fanfare --- just 8 bogeys and the rest pars. Missed a couple of putts that made the difference between shooting 80 and in the 70s. Posted the score and it knocked a 74 off the group, so my handicap jumped up a stroke -- which is a good thing as we'll be freezing handicaps at the end of the month until March.
