Could be a combination of short legs and long arms.  For me, I am 6 ft with short legs, long torso and short arms, so my wrist to floor is larger than average

Just curious, what length irons are you playing? Are you over standard?

    It is pretty awesome.

I am 6', but have short arms (37" wrist to floor) so that puts me at 35.5" - however, i address the ball in a relaxed/crouched stance, so that takes me back down to 34.5" which is exactly where I feel most comfortable

Found an interesting statistic from Hireko: "Statistically, the average WTF measurement is 48.9% of the person’s height"

I am below the predicted value:

    • Predicted Wrist to floor (based on height): 31.785"
    • Actual: 30.5"

I think if you are below the predicted, then means your ares are longer than average? I think for me, its not actually that my arms are long, its that my legs are short.

I am in my late 30s.

What kind of shaft do you use?

I am now contemplating between NS Pro 950GH Neo Regular or NS Pro 850GH Stiff. Ping did not have any of the really light steel shafts for custom fitting. NS Pro 950 GH Neo was pretty muc hit.

I know this question wasn't to me, but I play the Nippon 950 Neos in Stiff. They are a great shaft.

Found a good deal on one, Slightly used. But it meets my speks. Can I get yall thoughts! 260-280 on ebay. And not sure I used to or should have used too int the title lol....

which model? and are your specs close to standard?

It was a balance of cost and custom options

considered Byron Morgan, Bettinardi, and a few others

low tide just had the looks and options I wanted at price that wasnt a deal breaker

I love the idea of a custom Betti, but their prices are too high for me to spend on a putter.

  6. I canceled my Cleveland Smart Sole 4 wedge order. It was taking a while for it to be built, and the order was an overreaction to bad bunker play. Going to learn how to hit out of the bunker with a standard wedge. Thanks to the help from a few folks on here, I learned that i am not setting up correctly and not having the right intent either with my bunker shots.

I was fortunate enough to attend a clinic with Mike Malaska last weekend. In 5 minutes, he taught me something that completely changed my golf swing - how the hips should work. I've worked with other instructors, read books and magazines, watched a million YouTube videos. They all say similar things...."Fire the hips". "Rotate the hips". "Get your hips towards the target". Following that advice just caused more swing flaws, like sliding too much, rotating my hips too early, rotating incorrectly by focusing on my trail side hip/leg.

All of that was wrong. Mike basically did with me what he does to Eric Cogorno in the video below. He stood behind me, and moved my hips for me. It was a completely different feeling. Using the straight-line force from pushing my left heel into the ground moved my left hip back and up. To be honest, I had never before felt that in my golf swing. It was more like a baseball swing, where you plant your front foot, and push back. And that's what Mike teaches...that the golf swing should be using the same movement patterns that you use in other sports like baseball and tennis.

From my first swing, I hit the ball better. Solid. Effortless. Repeatable. With every club in the bag. That one move fixed my issues with swing plane, over the top, and swing path. I still have some work to do with club face control, but my misses seem to be a lot tighter now. I hope this lasts, because I'm hitting the ball better than I ever have in my 20 years of playing golf. I'm looking forward to taking it out to the course, and hopefully seeing it translate to some lower scores.

Watch this video, and see if you are moving your hips like this. It could be a game changer for you, as well. He also gave me a good drill that isn't discussed in the video. He had me tee up a ball, pre-set my impact position by pushing my hip back with my heel and holding it there while hitting shots with my 7 iron.

May I ask how much it costs for his clinic and what the format was? I am a big fan of Mike Malaska's teaching.

    Hi All,

I am a mid-handicapper and been using Mizuno H5 with NS PRO 950GH Stiff shafts. It felt way too heavy for my game after several years, run out of stamina just after 9 holes!

Decided to switch to an 'easier set', so just came back from a quick PING fitting session for G410 irons - tried every shaft available from graphite to steel shafts.

Interestingly, my dispersion was a lot better with steel shaft and top 2 recommendations were.

    1. AWT 2.0 LITE Stiff Regular

    2. NS Pro 950GH Neo Regular

I am really puzzled by this because these two shafts are only 4 - 5g lighter than what I am currently using, which feels like a sledge hammer to me. Funny thing is G410 didn't feel as heavy with these two shafts!!!  Really curious as to where the differences really come from??? Head weight? overall weight?

Should I go with a lighter shaft like NS Pro 850GH? or even ZELOS 7?

    With 7 iron (steel)

    - Swing speed: 80 mph

    - Average Carry distance: 135m

Any tips would be much appreciated!

    Cheers

Did you buy the H5s used? Have you tried checking the overall weight of the H5s?

If you bought used, the originally owner may have ordered the clubs at a high swingweight. For example, there could be tip weights in the shaft.

  9. I think abnormal course conditions/poor maintenance would throw anyone off, including pros.

My course is normally pretty pristine in terms of condition. However there have been a few abnormal days:

    • So wet and so much water on the course that the holes were halfway filled with water. The greens were basically un-puttable. I actually stopped putting at all after a couple holes
    • Piles of aeration plugs sitting around the greens. I lost a few shots to those. Anything slightly short of the green would just land in the pile of plugs

I had the same problem when I was putting poorly.  There is no one correct way to putt, but there is probably one way that fits a person better than other ways.  Everyone needs to find the way where they see the line and the ball going in the hole.

Before I started looking at the hole when making the stroke, I found that the Jack Nicklaus open stance at address helped me see the line better when over the ball, and I putted better using that stance.  When I started looking at the hole instead of the ball when making the stroke, I had to go back to setting up square to my intended line.  I did that because I could judge speed better.  Find what works best for you.

I was experimenting at home with lining up a putt and then using a ruler to verify if what i am seeing matches with the actual straight line. If I stand with my normal putting stance, the ball and putter look like they are aimed too far right when they are in fact lined up properly. If i stand a bit farther away from the ball, the line i see is correct. Don't know how standing farther away will transfer over to actual putting yet.

"justify". I think you should get the 425 Max, that way I can get it from you 3 weeks later.

If it doesn't work out, then the 425 Max goes in the backup slot in the garage. You can have what is currently in the backup slot, Nike Sumo2 5900 lol.

Yep,  my putter is 68* lie angle because I also stand farther away.

Do you stand farther away because of eye dominance / how you see the line? Or just a general preference thing.

i was messing around with the line i see vs what is actually straight if i line up a ruler. Standing with my normal stance (close to the ball) a perfectly aligned ball and putter face looks too far aimed right. But if i stand back further from the ball, the same alignment looks on line.

  13. I've been confusing myself on the concept of smooth/aggressive transition with tempo.

I am trying to determine if my swing counts as smooth or aggressive transition. I don't have a recent video, so we will need to work with my description:

    • My backswing is what I would characterize as slow
    • When my tempo is right, i feel like i have a pause at the top of the backswing (its probably not an actual noticeable pause)
    • From there, with driver I swing for the fences, probably a bit too much

His Efficient Swing is probably my favorite of his videos because the concepts and drills are so easy and make so much sense. A lot of them were things I had worked on in lessons, just with a slightly different approach. The pro I worked with wanted to give me a few easy things to just try to ingrain so I could have some fun out on the course.

I had tried the No Turn Cast Drill when he first released it on YouTube and I could never get the hang of it. I'll have to check out this updated version, given how many people it's worked for.

The new video is much more detailed that the old youtube video. I am focusing on the backswing part only for now.

When I had an in-person lesson back in December with Monte, when I was able to get to a proper backswing position, my transition and downswing automatically became on plane. For me, its hard to consistently get to the right backswing position.
