  1. I finally got a Cobra Rep out to get me fitted with the help of a guy I take lessons from, Neil Thompson (plug - he qualified for the Senior PGA Championship next week! Pulling for Neil and hope he crushes it). Here is what I decided on and thoughts from the fitting below. Fitting worked out great as it was just me, Neil, and the Cobra rep. See pictures at the end. We had a Foresight Gamechanger (trackman was being used elsewhere) on site that helped hone in the distances, total spin, and launch angle. I had a lot of options to choose from in terms of shafts and heads. The one thing I did not get to try out were the MIM wedges, but there were brand new Snakebite wedges there to try out. Going into the fitting I knew I wanted to find a shaft that works for my irons and figure out what I wanted to do with my 4 iron through driver. Driver: My miss sometimes is a left pull/ when its really bad, it is a left hook, so I knew I would not be going with the XB or XD driver. I really just wanted to find a shaft that would fit my swing. I started out with the Motore X F1, but kept having a lower ball flight than what I was used to even with a +1 setting. I ended up gaming the Smoke RDX Blue as the ball flight, distance were better along with a much lower spin rate of around 2000. The matte blue finish didn't suit my eye online, but I actually preferred it once seeing it in person. I included one of my swings with the driver at the end. Roasts are acceptable if desired. Fairway/Utilities: I decided to game the Big Tour 3 wood as a mini second driver off the tee for those tight fairways. This club was hot off the face and lower trajectory as the weight is all up front. I plan on using my 5 wood and 4 hybrid as those longer second shots in the fairway as needed. The club face for the hybrid does appear closed at address, but I didn't have any problems with a big draw. I did go the heaviest shaft as I could fine to make sure that doesn't happen. I tried to like the Utility iron but only caught it flush 3/6 times. When I did though, it felt and sounded awesome. Ultimately I think I could control the hybrid more than the utility iron. Irons: Like @txgolfjunkie, I am going with the Copper finish on the MIMs with a black KBS tour shaft. Hoping they will look as slick as I'm hoping. The Cobra rep did warn me about sand based ranges as those will be the ones to really wear off that copper finish. The irons I game now are KBS Tour 90S and I bought them right off the shelf not thinking about much 6 years ago. Now I realized I probably needed a heavier shaft, hence the 120g. I really did love the feel as it felt like I was puring every shot. Since we are throwing out 7 iron numbers, mine was in the 175-180 yd range. Wedges: I have had my eye on the Snakebite wedges ever since they were released. I got to try the full face groove around the green and out of the sand and loved it. Looking forward to seeing how the full face compares to the SM7 60 I typically use around the green. IMG_1318.mp4
  2. First swing of range session, right? That’ll get you good and loose for the remainder of the day.
  3. I’ll get into my game/struggles/strengths a little bit later but fairway finders and 100 yards and in shots would be the two areas. I have not owned a set of Arccos sensors before, so I’m looking forward to getting a baseline with the clubs I have now and then really see how it compares with the Cobras.
  4. Since we have tickets for the weekend, it’ll be hard to project who we are going to follow. I personally would like to follow someone who maybe isn’t a top dog but is in the top 10-15 on the leaderboard chasing his first major. With the field of spectators being limited, I’m hoping we can get close to some players and listen in on some conversations between their caddies (assumptions are that they hit their ball by the spectators and not boring fairway finders). Of course I want to be behind a tee shot of Bryson’s, but he’ll probably have a big following, so I probably won’t follow him if he makes the weekend.
  5. @TBS and I along with others are heading to the PGA Championship this week. We have tickets for Saturday and Sunday. If anybody else will be out there, we would love to meet up. On our way out to Kiawah, we are getting to play one of the six Reynolds Lake Oconee courses where one of the Taylormade Kingdoms is located. While we couldn’t get on to play Great Waters (top #100 to play in US), we are going to play The National. Another course we are getting to play once we get into South Carolina and near Kiawah is Seabrook Island Ocean Winds golf course. Looking forward to an awesome end of the week and weekend. I’ll update with pictures from the courses and Kiawah.
  6. I got my fitting early next week. I couldn’t line one up this week with a Cobra rep and didn’t want to just hit a driver and 7 iron at the PGA Superstore. Once I’m in, we will be ready to submit.
  7. That’s awesome on the MIMs! #TeamChad might have 2 sets of Copper MIMs in play! Hoping they suit my eye early next week. I’ve heard the big tour 3 wood is hottttt off the face. Obviously you liked it, did you hit it off the ground and tee or just tee since you said you’ll mainly use it for positioning/tighter fairways.
  8. A little early morning Saturday action to be aware of (please don’t jinx this, please don’t jinx this). Scott Stallings is -7 through 10 and has 6 birdies in a row! Can he best Burns -10 from yesterday? Edit: Native Area off the tee on the next shot
  9. Where’s my Noren squad at? Huge pickup for me right at the last second!
  10. I got to play the my first of three round robin singles match play at the club I am apart of. Always fun to play in a little competition and have some pressure moments. I was missing/pulling my approach shots left of the green. I had to scramble like a mad man to keep the match close. I ended up with 5 up and downs. I had to birdie 18 to push the match and get a 1/2 pt. for myself. Ended with an 85/86ish, picked up on 1 hole as he had already won that one. Cool part was talking about MGS with my playing partner. He had heard about it and even put in on a couple testing opportunities. He didn't realize how big the forum community group and all the different topics that you can learn about, take part in, and meet others through the process.
  11. @txgolfjunkie Don't you have your fitting today? Do you have a good idea what you want in the driver/woods/hybrids/wedges?
  12. Yeah, I typically play the Copperhead tees out there. Challenging, but still fun. If you want a real Tips challenge, go play Ross Bridge in Birmingham. Over 8,000 yards. Just hope you don't play on a windy day.
  13. Seeing those pics does worry me a little bit, but it will really depend on how I like it in person. This won't be a deal breaker for me at least. I will just have to walk so slowwwww and neverrr have my irons bang together. Might become target golf for the group behind me.
  14. Based off what I'm reading and what Tony with MGS posted, it is a PVD based copper colored finish, not actual copper. Still snazzy looking. I'd expected the color finish to be protected like any other club.
  15. Favorite hole I've played (sucker for par 3's no matter the outcome) 230 from the tips, 200 ft drop, 7 iron to the green. Something about seeing the ball take 5 minutes to land.. Hole I want to play (besides the one @Headhammer posted)
  16. I am with you on the hole that I want to play. Such a cool concept.
  17. @jlukes and I have the opportunity to game the Copper finish in the MIM irons. Looks like @jlukes decided to not go that route, but I am highly considering. I have my fitting next Monday at 1:00 PM. Hoping the copper finish doesn't distract me too much and fits my eye.
  18. Here’s my picks this week: Favorite: Jon Rahm gets out of his funk and wins by 3 Sleeper: Matthew Fitzpatrick comes from behind on Sunday to win Darkhorse: Thomas Pieters. Let’s do this.
  19. I’ll call up to Sewanee and ask to see if they are going to be open in July to the public. Thanks!
  20. It seems right now, if you purchase one during the Kickstarter campaign, it is just a one time one glove purchase. The subscription model is once they go live on Shopify. That is what I gathered from the comments section on the Kickstarter page. I will update though after I’ve used it for a little while. Only have one range session use so far with it, held up great then.
  21. I recently ran across a new kickstarter started up by Brad Fritsch and some investors. They have created a quality golf glove, but the kicker is that they will donate a glove to a junior program in need for every glove bought. Here is a picture of mine of below and the link to the kickstarter if this peaks anyone's interest. Finally: Tour-Grade Leather Golf Gloves At Fair Prices by Kerry Moher — Kickstarter
  22. Peacoat Red or Black Turbo Yellow are the options for the Driver/woods. I’m leaning Peacoat Red as well. The matte blue top is not as blue as you might think.
  23. I’m okay with an introduction from the announcers when they first come on air, but when we start showing the players/caddies, stop talking. I love hearing the interaction between the players and their caddies. Listening to their thoughts and how they are going to approach the next shot is really interesting to me. A few examples that come to mind are Rory and his caddies discussion to drop on 18 last week and Speith’s relationship with his caddie. Something TV networks have gotten better at are showing play through screens while a commercial is going on. More of that would be nice. One last thing is show more players! I know that is hard to do, but it only seems like they show the big bombs for birdies from people not in contention.
  24. Was It this tweet from Joel Dahmen!? He was fielding questions while on a plane and got asked this. Made me laugh.
