  1. Don't you hate it when all the info is in the beginning so you don't have to search for it? Lol.
  2. With 2 Kids I get so few open days to go play that the weather doesn't really stop me when I want to go. I have rain pants, Jacket and gloves. With my body staying dry and no need to keep the clubs dry due to the gloves it really isn't that bad. I have had to stop and hunker down in the middle of a fairway before just Holding onto my bag and umbrella till the worst pasted, but once it was gone it was all good. The key is knowing which courses in your area can handle the downpour without flooding. Multiple times I have been 1 of maybe 5 people on an entire course (Once due to rain, once due to severe wind). Its kinda nice to have a course all to yourself sometimes. That said, CA looks to have started another drought so not sure how many rainy days I'll actually encounter...
  3. I always tell my wife I like to play in the rain since not many other people will be there. Plus it makes you swing a little slower so I find the club face more often. Just make sure you have really good rain gloves.
  4. I broke 80 long before I joined on MSG So I have been patiently waiting till I break 70 before requesting the badge (shot 70 once a few years ago...so close!). Very much hoping it is this year. I would would much prefer not to look at squares but can't make e'm all....
  5. Here was my First round score card: (While Posting I realized I missed a 2 stoke penalty on the first hole leading to that Double for lost ball! And I missed the green on the 17th Hole short..Opps. I edited it on the online Grint website though...)
  6. Shoot! I'm new to Grint and didn't see where I could mark this stat! Could have been useful! Maybe for the next round... Lol.
  7. The flop shot is extremely useful if you pay fast greens and miss short side a lot. I will say that what they are doing in the video is not really a flop shot so much as a how fast we can get it to go up? They even keep joking about how far Dustin's ball keeps going. They are not trying to hit to a flag or make it stop quickly which is probably why they are all taking divots and such and why they say they wouldn't try "THIS" shot on the course. Like others have said, practice it before you try it. I know I don't hit the ball very low (even when I try) so when situations on the course call for me to hit it low I need to adjust my expectation or try a different shot. If I didn't practice it then I might try still and end up in even worse shape. Same goes for the High shots...
  8. I wanted to say something like this too, but could not do it without sounding like a jerk. Glad you posted first as you were way nicer with a more in depth solution that I !
  9. Got my round in and pretty sure it posted. I show up in the Tour Leader Board as D. Lance. Not sure how you get points but I got 0...Not looking good lol. I think I hit a lot of different potential metrics though. Started the day off with a first tee lost ball leading to a double, but did pretty well the rest of the day. Ended with 5 birdies, 25 putts and a total of 75.
  10. Finally getting out to play tomorrow. Hopefully I get it set up correctly!
  11. Just Came across this topic and figured I would through my name into the ring for people needing someone to play with. I live in the Hayward area and play most of the courses you all have been mentioning. Looking forward to Corica opening up the 2nd course again and hoping that it free's up some of those tee times. Have only managed to play the open course once since they re-did it. That said With my newborn I have not really been playing a lot since Oct, but am starting to get back out there. This weekend will be my 2nd time this month (thats an accomplishment for me right now). Heading down to play Bayonet in Seaside.
  12. My Father lives down in La Quinta on the PGA West Complex. These courses are all very nice looking and half of them are private. As such, I would have expected them to be pristine ALL the time. However, in my several trips down to his place I can say I was un-impressed with the condition of the greens for most of them. I wonder if it is just too hard to keep the courses with this type of grass in perfect condition in a desert....My guess is that the course you played has similar consistency issues. Hopefully next time you visit will be during a good conditions week.
  13. Decided to take this off the Top Shelf last night. So tasty! Bookers: 2016 - 03 TOOGIE'S INVITATION 129 Proof, Aged 6yrs 4Mo 4 days.
  14. Just happened across this thread and thought I would share my Journey so far this year. I'm 5'6" and on Jan 10th got on a scale for the first time in a couple years...210 lbs. Reminder I'm 5'6" and don't have broad shoulders like some of you 5'8" guys ... Decided it was time to diet. I love food and Whiskey too much to cut out anything in particular so I went with the basic Calorie Deficit approach (eat whatever I want, but only x amount of it). I downloaded the MyNetDiary App to track calories and started counting. I really didn't add any additional exercise in beyond my Life stuff (occasional short hike with friends, or a little golf) so all weight loss is strictly from the food intake reduction. My original goal was to be down at 170 lbs by Sept (we have a trip to FL planned that I wouldn't mind being in better shape for) so the app said I could eat around 2100 calories a day to hit this goal. Being me and doing 1 thing at a time way to aggressively (one day it's collecting Fountain Pens, Then building up a stores worth of Bourbon to drink alone (in a good way), and now My Diet) I actually aim to hit closer to 1,400 cal a day. As such I have seen my weight drop from 210 down to 179.8 from 1/12 to 4/13 this year. The graph below shows the goal trajectory (Dashed blue line) vrs my actual results so far (Green solid line). Since I have done so well so far My new goal is to get down to 160. For anybody wondering what mainly eat: Breakfast: I have 2 main breakfasts that I alternate between Option A: 2 pcs of toast (it is 45cal per slice), 1.5 pcs of thin bacon (68 cal), and 1 fried egg (60 cal) all combined into a sandwich served along with some coffee (black so basically zero cal). = 227 cal Option B: Smoothie using a Bananna ~100, an Apple ~95, PB2 Peanut Butter Powder ~50, Almond Milk ~30 = 275 cal (I still drink the coffee once I drink this) For lunch I typically eat a portioned amount of what I had for dinner the night before. For dinner I am lucky enough to have a wife that cooks so she makes all sorts of tasty items. Examples go from Foil Ship packets that have shrimp, lemon, Garlic, spices and edamame or home made soups that are Tomato, chicken, and spinach based. The last soup she made had a combined 800 cal in the pot. It served me 2 bowls at dinner, and 1 the next day for lunch as well as Her and my son. If we average that out it was only 160 cal per bowl and busting with flavor. (Photo below of this soup). Basically we try and eat a lot of Chicken, Fish, or shrimp dishes as they can be made to be so good without adding a lot of calories.
  15. Just signed up. I have a round on the 24th I will try this on. Sounds fun! Good Luck Everybody!
  16. Those Darn Kids! Ruin Everything! I had my first 8 years ago and recently have been starting to teach him the game. I even "invested" (or so I say to my wife) In a launch monitor and built a backyard set up so we could play/practice more often. Then wouldn't you know it 2nd kid. 8 Years apart! what were we thinking?!? lol....Well needless to say, leading up to and for most of the time since the new baby the golf sim has gone mostly unused. There was even a stretch for about 3 months that it didn't turn on even once. I have started to get a little more free time so I used it for an hr or so maybe 2-3 times a week right now and that's with only a 20 step commute. I couldn't imagine playing golf if I had to leave the house.
  17. I must say I disagree. I have been a sub 10 handicap for probably 10+ years playing once a month with little to no range practice in between rounds (this last year that has changed as I have a home practice set up now). Also very rarely do I upgrade my equipment. When I bought my last set of irons my old ones were so worn that I was not able to trade them in for anything.
  18. Totally agree with both of these points. Any time I feel like I am having a bad day but then look at the end score and know that many others would kill for that score it puts it into perspective. I think it is best to just make sure that you are having fun while still trying to improve. Stay Positive! I also agree that focusing on 1 aspect at a time is crucial. If you focus on getting off the tee, approach shots, Wedge shots, chip shots, Lag putting, and short putting all at the same time then none of them are going to drastically improve very quickly. Pick one thing and hone that until it becomes 2nd nature, then pick another thing...repeat. Eventually you will have big improvements in each aspect. For the last 2 weeks or so I have been focusing on my 50-125 yard wedge shots. I figure I have 4 wedges, 3 different swings each (1/2, 3/4, and Full), and 3 Ball positions (Front, Middle, Back) in stance. This gives me 36 combinations of shots with my wedges to really attack for birdies, or save par after a bad shot. Being able to confidently say I can hit this wedge, with this swing, onto that shelf of the green with no worry about going to long has already helped on the course. Once I have this drilled down (probably a few more weeks still), I'll move on to a different shot.
  19. Thanks for the suggestion!: https://www.indianvalleygolfclub.com/ - will look into https://tpc.com/hardingpark/fleming-course/ - Never played it, but might need to take my son there. I have played the 18 hole regular course. Was actually spose to go play here last year right before the PGA tour, but they shut everything down due to Covid before my tee time...Haven't made it back yet. http://www.roddyranch.com/ - Played it a few times, but closed a couple years ago https://www.bodegaharbourgolf.com/ - THIS LOOKS GEORGOUS! and the price isn't terrible...I am going to look into this one for sure!! https://www.presidiogolf.com/ - Played it, didn't like it as much as i thought I would and for sure not for the price they charege nowadays.
  20. Eagle Ridge used to be a good spot (but they had been doing some upkeep on the course a ways back, not sure if they are done). There is also San Juan Oaks. Bayonet Blackhorse are 2 of my favs in the area (actually playing Bayonet on 4/24). Less in the Monterey side, but could be on the way to Sac would be The Course at Wente Vinyards. or a quick detour over to Half Moon bay I would suggest Half Moon Bay Golf links (I preferer the Old Course - shorter but more character. Quick note, they do not have a driving range, but there is a little one about 5 mins away kinda tucked into the neighborhoods). Also a shorter, but pretty course is Cinnabar Hills golf course. You can also look at Coyote Creek Tournament Course (I wouldn't bother with the Valley Course)(The Tournament course is Technically "Private", but you can normally get times on it by calling them, or booking a tee time on GolfNow.com). Enjoy your trip! http://www.eagleridgegc.com/-home https://www.sanjuanoaks.com/ https://wentevineyards.com/course https://www.halfmoonbaygolf.com/the-old-course https://www.cinnabarhills.com/ https://www.coyotecreekgolf.com/index.htm
  21. Its a pretty good course when the conditions are right. The fairways and rough were a bit spotty and the greens had not fully recovered from being punched a couple of weeks ago so they were much slower and more bumpy than normal. But it was still nice to be outside. If I had to choose (and price was less of a concern) I would rather hop down the road and play "The Course at Wente Vineyards". The greens are typically in better shape and it is a bit more challenging of a layout (to me).
  22. Went out and played Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore, CA this weekend. I was excited to use my new Driver for a 2nd time on the course. So of course I hooked my first drive out of bounds on the first hole. Great start...From there on it worked great though. Unfortunately, I am a bit out of practice with my putter so I 3 putted a few holes that I had pretty good looks at birdie (all within 20 ft) and missed several other birdie attempts that would have really helped my round. Managed to stay focused enough to shoot a 77. Playing again in 2 weeks and hope to improve on that putting performance though.
  23. Well I got my first round in this last weekend with my new TSi4 Driver and I must say I was quite pleased. I hit 7 out of 8 Fairways on the front 9 and then 4/5 Fairways the back nine (Had 3 shots that were 300+ and an avg of 280). So far I am loving the new club!
  24. Just got the email with tracking info. My new TSi4 should be at my house when I get home from work tomorrow!
  25. If you truly have a 2 way miss, then why look into a draw bias? Your misses left will be even worse? I would say that you may be better served by a better fitted shaft which can help stabilize the head to get a more consistent impact and miss.
