TBS got a reaction from Mtbryant01 in 2023: Want To Be a MGS Forum Tester? Read Here!
Quick question - @GolfSpy_APH Will the submission form be the same as it was last year? Asking about number of rounds played, strength/weakness, etc?
If so, how does that information factor into the selection process?

Thank you for this update! Very transparent, mod team!

    Week 2: AT&T Pebble Beach
Tom Hoge! Manages a win with a 68 68 weekend at Pebble Beach. It was a pretty exciting week with lots of different names atop the leaderboard and (from what I saw) some great golf. With Berger pulling out with a injury it left Spieth and Cantlay as they did not disappoint with top 5 finishes. Meanwhile Jason Day had another solid T25 finish and Canadians littered the leadboards top 25 with their big 3 all having good weeks.
After week 2 our top 15 in the standings look like this:

@cciciora13 takes over sole first place from @STUDque and @ZJBogey2 who after week one had occupied that place. We had 9 different leaders last year (slightly different format) but I expect us to have larger swings and more names up top then last year.

@TBS and @kahl2069 were our divisional undefeated teams with TBS scoring a mighty 261.95 points. He was 15 clear of everyone and altho did not have the winner. Joel Dahmen, Mack Hughes, Andrew Putnam, Sigg and Mullinax all made the cut and allowed him to take full advantage of his rosters scoring.

Our league medium sat a little lower (1 point) then last weeks at 165.85 so we may be seeing a bit of a trend there.

We also had 14 teams crack the 220 barrier, which again I think is a number to roughly reach for when considering if you had a really good, above average week.

As for players who were left on waivers, it may also be worth noting that Putnam was picked up by 2 teams this week and started who certainly gave them a boost. However in a week like this with several bigger names sitting out there were tons that had awesome weeks which most of us missed out on. I typically use 50 points as a bunch mark for highlighting players.

That being said the whole first page was all players that have 40 plus points this week. With a LOT of these players playing next week it will make for another great waiver wire week.

Congrats to those who had good weeks and to those who didn't and had teams struggle, it is a very long season with 26 weeks and lots of valuable players on waivers. Glad to see so much activity in the Fantrax Chat and the communication there as well! Been a fantastic year so far and a lot of fun, can't wait to continue with it and see how it all pans out
Now we head to the Waste Management Open for Week 3: https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/49010-phoenix-open-waste-management-2022/

I used to get mad and hit my club on the ground with some added expletives.

Now I understand I will never be good enough to get mad and it’s more fun to have fun. So, if the ball is going deep in the hazard, I’ll wave and say goodbye. Or I make a self deprecating joke. I still get mad in my head especially if I’m having a good round but I immediately try to change my thinking to make a bogey and keep playing.

This should be pinned. Thank you for your high tech test! (A little tongue in check, but a claim that needed to be addressed!)
Seems like I may have fallen victim to some TM hating trolls. From the sound of it Stealth is holding up as a solid driver that is a potentially big step forward when it comes to new tech.

Well, I should clarify it was a human finger nail, not a robot fingernail.  I've spoken to many industry experts  and I have heard that human finger nail testig, is more relatable than robot fingernail testing.

First despite you using an emoji you don’t know me and you haven’t been around here long enough to call me anything other than my listed name. So this will be the one and only time I address this.
Second the drivers just started arriving thing week and since you aren’t familiar with most of the members here there’s not going to be a lot of them who preordered the driver thus limiting the number of people that would have it to even attempt to jump in with their tests.
Third there’s already been posts from a member who has talked with mgs staff and they aren’t seeing the samething as that photo, and as several have posted the demo heads at the pga show get treated like garbage, not much different than any demo club during the demo day season.
Last there are several on wrx where preording, blind buying and testing is more of a regular occurrence that have posted their pics and what they noticed about the face and none of them are seeing the samething as this one head. Nor has the person who claims to have been there posted the requested video of the fingernail test.

Talked to HQ, they aren’t going to do anything to intentionally mark the face until driver testing is complete.   I have been searching across the various forums (boring life and this stuff is interesting to me) and have only found one other comment about damage to the face.   the below picture was a range demo club with about 500 shots and  the person noted that there were some embedded grains of sand in the face.

For the record,  I tried to scratch the face with my fingernail yesterda with more than enough force than anhyone would find any normal reason to do so, and was unable to make any sort of mark.

I know that it took a ton of shots but any markings on the face concern me. There were a number of comments of people who had fittings with them already that were surprised with the number of markings. Is this something to be concerned about? I know carbon fiber can be very strong but I also know that if there is any damage to it, it becomes extremely weak and compromised.

I’m a skeptic and while I love advances in tech TM has equally advanced their marketing strategy.

Remember they just got bought in May by a South Korean private equity firm. One thing I know about M&A is that the firm always wants to show value in what they just bought…quickly. So, I’m equally skeptical about the 20+ yrs of R&D statements. Products are constantly rushed to market without full testing or with potential defects. Remember a 1% defect in 200,000 clubs is still 2000 clubs. I hope it’s a significant advancement but I also remember other club tech failures.

All that being said, I can’t wait to hit one. I’m just cautiously optimistic.

EDIT - Just to be clear, this is speculation and I could be 10000% wrong. I game a TM driver, not trying to go after TM. I feel that the release of this new driver is being received differently than years past, so I want to make sure that it's thoroughly reviewed and questioned.

I’ve only taken it to the range a few times but it’s awesome. Less club tangle than my older ping hoofer. Smaller and carries more balanced making it feel much lighter. Also no logos make it so sleek.

... Not as cut and dried as the above. I did a review of a Tour Edge fairway wood and since I lived in Chicago I was invited to their plant for an interview. I was given a fascinating tour of the operation and one of the things I was shown was the pipeline for their fairway woods. It was a 5 year plan with new fairway woods every year. The next year was a "tweak" but the following year was a new technology followed by 2 more years of "tweaks" and the 5th year was another new technology they were excited about. They wanted to get everything perfect before any release.

... I also talked to two Engineers at Cleveland when they released the brand new Hi Bore driver. It was 90% where they wanted it but one spot high on the face produced excessive spin and potential ballooning. They wanted 2 more years to fix the problem but the VP of Sales over rode their concerns and wanted it released because according to him "a very small number of golfers would find a problem". It was a new VP of Sales and the engineers said they had never rushed a product to market before. They released another version the following year that was better but still had some spin problems. By the 3rd year they got the Hi Bore perfect but the damage was done as golf forums had discovered the spin problems and word of mouth killed the project. I do think this is very rare.

... I have a very hard time believing a company like TM, a leader in the driver category would risk releasing a new driver that had any problems, let alone defective faces. If a small company like Tour Edge does extensive testing of their faces (along with everything else) you have to think the testing done on a new material is well beyond extensive with a company the size of TM. I am not saying the technology is any better or worse as far as performance for the average golfer but the technology has to be solid or they would not risk losing their position as a leader in driver sales when they could have just released a Sim3.

I can tell you that after spending time with Bridgestone and Cobra in 2015 that they are constantly working on things and that they are typically 3-5 years away from release. So no nothing is rushed to market and yes it’s feasible that TM has spent 20 years working on this especially as they state manufacturing process and capabilities have changed and improved over the years. So you can be a skeptic what you shared here isn’t true.

@Manavs Interesting.  I would love to find out more about this.  Are you saying "Steel" and "Titanium" have some surface properties that add to the spin where carbon face doesn't?  First time I've heard this.  Can you give us a pointer to a study, article, etc?
