Kudos to the HPD

Backstory: I've been riding motorcycles for most of the last decade. My latest is a Honda CBR600RR (Black Beauty). I use it to commute the 20miles each way to work every day and it's a source of joy for me.

 

 

Friday I was a bit of a write off for me at work. We had a vendor drop the ball on a massive task and so most of the day was left cleaning up after them. By the end of the day all I wanted to do was get home. I put a 90s alt rock playlist on and blasted home.

 

 

Fast forward to Saturday morning. Time to give Black Beauty an oil & filter change. I jumped in the car to go pick up some supplies and drove past my other stall... She was gone

 

In my haste to end the work week and relax I forgot to put the lock on my bike and some lowlife stole her.

 

Called the HPD and they had an officer out to my house in 15min - which was quicker than I'd expected. Filed a report and then the officer was on his way.

 

So here I am stewing at my loss when I get a phone call from an unknown number. Half expecting a masked voice and Liam Neeson on the other end of the phone seeking a ransom I answered... Not Liam this time... But the HPD officer. He'd found my bike less than 2 blocks from my house!

 

I grabbed my keys and ran over there. Turns out the officer had seen the bike parked on the side of the road when he was doing his early morning patrol and taken a mental picture of it. After I filed the report he just drove straight back to it!

 

Some pillion seat lock damage (lock was punched) and two seat stays broken but pretty minor really. As you can imagine, I'm extremely happy and thankful for the men in blue.

 

...needless to say, lesson learned and she'll be locked up nice and tight in the future...

Haha, I did... It's called a new job. I have had a manager role in my team vacant for the last 6months so I've been doing my role and the manager role... Doesn't leave much time - hopefully lightening up now

Glad you got her back with minimal damage.  I guard my Harleys like no tomorrow since they are the last real link I have between myself and my old man.  Just had an alarm installed on his Road King and working on getting them to NY for the summer so I can start riding again.

I hope to get my first Harley next year - current bike is super fun, but not an overly comfortable riding position for commuting. I really like the 883 Iron Dark Custom - not really looking for a huge bike, and love the lines of the 883

The 883 is a nice bike. I went big with mine when I got the Fatboy and my old man always had a Road King. I owned a few sport bikes and they are fun in short bursts but overall not very practical.

Glad you got it back, I had a similar situation happen in Japan while I was stationed there. Came out of the apartment one morning to get on my bike to head to work and only thing there was the cover. Headed down the street to the Japanese police dept. and filed a report. They said there was a string of bike thefts going on lately and they suspected foreigners of it. They were stealing them and shipping them overseas in containers.

I figured I would never see her again, btw it was only 2 months old at the time. Anyway, about an hour later I got a phone call and they found it sitting at a near by park. When I got there, there was tennis shoe melted on the exhaust pipes, tank bag missing, 1 mirror missing.

I had extended pegs on it for me so the thief couldn't reach the pegs to ride it right so they abandoned it. Japanese teens were suspected in my case. I was very happy to get her back too.
