Kenny B
The question was asked in the blog by Andrew, but no answer was given. "So did Wilson totally eff up the NeXus, or are these just that much better?" The Wilson Staff neXus won the 2014 MyGolfSpy Stand Bag Most Wanted competition (click here), and finished a very strong 2nd in the 2015 competition (click here). This year the Wilson NeXus II was a middle of the pack carry bag. One could say that the criteria and rating scales were somewhat different, and they appear to be, but for the most important criteria for a carry bag... club binding, comfort and strap adjustment, the NeXus seemed to be lacking compared to previous years. Am I wrong? I can't believe that all of the other carry bags all of sudden got better and Wilson sat on it. I also can't believe that last year the NeXus was "comfortable to carry and easily adjusts on your back" and this year it was ranked at or near the bottom in comfort, adjustability and club binding. The NeXus has been a very popular bag for several years; now it's just another bag? What gives? “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
SPY VIP The Dansome Posted May 4, 2016 SPY VIP Share Posted May 4, 2016 I won their design contest and of course received a bag as my grand prize last year. I used it for about a week in the real world, but quickly gave up on it. Highlights: Light and comfortable Excellent storage But it was some quirks that drove me nuts and take it out of play. The club dividers are not full length and twist everything together, pull a club out and 2 more are dangling with it. Even worse is sometimes clubs don't want to come out. Many times a playing partner would yell to me your clubs are hanging out. The stand does not retract properly when you put things in pockets or designated spots. With laser or water bottle in their holders this affects the stand. The stand on the @wilson_golf #nexus is really annoying me. No matter what I do it wants to push to the outside of the pockets #golfannoyances #itsyhelittlethings A photo posted by Dan Mann (@golfspymbp) on May 2, 2015 at 11:52am PDT Yo #JustPlayBetter Follow @GolfSpyMBP
PlaidJacket
Keen observation Kenny. I agree with you. What's up with that? Did somebody add one extra zipper to a bag or a softer carry strap by some undetectable measure? I doubt it ...but possible I suppose. Kind of reminds me of the shaving razor marketing. Remember when 2 blades were the best shave you'll ever get. Then there was 3 blades and it became the best ever. Now it's up to 5 blades and it's become the best ever. What a bunch of horse$hit. SPY VIP GolfSpy_X Posted May 5, 2016 SPY VIP Share Posted May 5, 2016 Here are some of the reasons that the Nexus moved down in our results: – More testers– Additional and updated parameters– Updates from competitors without updates in the Nexus (the Nexus weighs more now than it did originally)– Introduction of a new bag to the market that in and of itself without updates to the parameters would have knocked the Nexus out of “runner-up†(Projekt) #TruthDigest
Kenny B
I noticed that the parameters were tweaked from previous years with numerical ratings given that with more testers would likely result in a different outcome. However, something else must have changed with the bag. It was easy to carry and now it's not. In 2015 the weight gain was mentioned, but it was noted that it didn't really impact the comfort that much. I didn't see that the weight has increased again since last year so it's not any heavier. No club binding mentioned the past two years, but now it appears you can't pull a club without getting a bunch of others with it. It doesn't sound like everyone else got a lot better all of a sudden, but Wilson effed up the NeXus somehow. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
