What's the difference between tipping adjustment and length adjustment?

Sorry for the newb question, guys - I only started playing golf a couple months ago!

 

I was looking at the taylormade website today and noticed two options when customizing an M2 driver.  Tipping adjustment and length:

What's the difference between cutting 0.5" of length and cutting 0.5" of tipping adjustment?

Tipping is removing length from the part of the shaft where the head goes. This makes the shaft tip play stiffer and lowers ball flight. Trimming from the butt, presented grip end, of the shaft is the standard way to change the length of the shaft without overly effecting the properties of the shaft

Nailed it.

 

Basically tipping will make the shaft play stiffer and length is just overall playing length.  

 

So you could have a 45" driver that has been tipped .5" (or 1" or 1.5" etc) or a 45" driver that has not been tipped.  The one that has been tipped will play stiffer to flex.  It's just another fitting variable you can use.

I play my driver 1/2 inch short and I always have it tipped because I need a lower ball flight with the driver.
