yungkory
Played my first round with my new Newport and I have to say the matador grip is no bueno for me. It gets so slippery it feels like I'm constantly wiping my hands because I'm scared the putter will slip during my stroke. Granted it is hot and humid here all year long, I wasn't having this issue with the Winn grips on my Evnroll or the Spider Tour. Do different weight grips have a large effect on putters? I know the matador is not counter-balanced, but will putting a grip like the Tour SNSR completely change the feel of the putter? Help a confused noob putter ho please! STUDque
I'm a grip ho. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that different grips WILL have an impact on your stroke. You shouldn't have to deal with a slippery grip, different grips work better in different environments. I'd try another. I like the Tour SNSR. I put the Contour (big pistol) on my O-Works putter and it made a huge difference for the better. If you can, I'd try to find somewhere that you can actually hold them in your hand before sticking them on your Newport. Those premium putter grips aren't cheap enough to try a bunch. cnosil
Yes, A putter grip can change your stroke and feel of a putter. Size of the grip may increase or decrease how your hands interact with the club. Size and Material may change how you perceive the vibrations so feel/sound will change. And weight may impact your overall stroke. How much or how little will be based on you and how much you are able to identify those differences. numberonecoog
I had the SNSR and it gave that large grip benefit with the feel of rubber. Be careful though it is very heavy Check out my personal Equipment Blog and Podcast! Huntingforbirdies.com
yungkory
Thanks for the info. I really like the matador size/shape, I just hate the lack of actual hold I'm able to get out of it. The current configuration seems so well-balanced that I'd hate to ruin the putter by putting something drastically different. Especially since they market the cameron and crown to be meticulously balanced around 33" with every other detail of the putter taken into consideration. PlaidJacket
I wouldn't sweat it. I changed the grip on my balanced putter from a super stroke of some size and weight to a SNSR (the larger size) and couldn't tell a difference. JTexGolfer
Here are some putter grip weights that I know of from looking around. If one of these is similar in weight to the Cameron Matador (dont know how much it weighs) then your putter should retain similar swingweight and feel. yungkory
From what I read, not sure if it was accurate, the Matador small is 77g. I ended up going with the SS Pistol GT Tour, mostly because I liked that the shape was similar to the matador, but it wasn't spongy and slippery. Putter weight feels the same, gotta get it on the practice greens to see if the honeymoon phase magic is still there.
