Popular Post knotthead17
April 27th 2023 Club Scrub Golf Club and Golf Ball Cleaning Bag - Reviewed by Knotthead17 About the Reviewer I've never really thought about how long I've actually been playing golf until I sat down to write this summary but I will be coming up on 10 years of consistent golf soon. In 2008 (just old enough enjoy a post round beer) I started studying finance in college and was told by many people if I wanted to succeed in finance I needed to be able to play golf and at least not embarrass myself. I leaned into their advice and headed to the nearest golf tec (about 3 hours away) to built out a set of beginner clubs with a 5 pack of lessons. Armed with my first golf lesson and a set of Adams Idea irons I was off to the races! I played a decent amount for 2 years before tossing the clubs in storage. With the exception of the occasional first date at Chelsea Pier driving range I wouldn’t set foot on anything resembling a golf course for years. I really got started playing in 2015 with the encouragement of my Grandfather. He was a lifelong golfer who played 6 days a week (rarely on Sundays) for decades and was able to shoot his age more than once, and played into his mid 80’s. It was a way for us to spend time together and that we did. He shared his passion with me and watched as it grew into my (healthy) obsession. For context, in May 0f 2020 I played 32 rounds—that was not uncommon. I do a few golf trips a year consisting of a minimum of 36 holes a day, and we have known to finish off the evening with a few rounds of putt-putt, paying no attention to the fact that they had closed hours earlier. More recently I stepped away from playing in 2022 due to a shoulder surgery with a lengthy recovery. Over the years I’d guess I’ve been about 90% self taught and was able to get down to a 4.7 and consistently shot low 80’s or high 70’s pre surgery. Post surgery I’ve really struggled to get back to where I was. I will never forget my first time swinging a club months after surgery. I was just going to hit a few short pitches—it turned out to be all but impossible. I was terrified I’d never play again, and definitely not at the level I had once achieved. I don’t have an active handicap but would guess somewhere around a 10 right now last few rounds have been right at 80, but on easier courses and moved up a set of tees (or two) for now. Every day out I’m seeing substantial improvement and I’m more energized than ever to get back out there and swing away! Intro I’m a clean freak and apply that mentality to my golf equipment day in and day out. I meticulously clean my clubs after every shot but have yet to find the best system. I’ve gotten closer with a set of towels and brushes but there was still something missing. I typically playing very hot dry climates where if I dip my towel it's dry by the third or fourth hole. I'm also a bit of a minimalist and prefer to reduce wherever I can. I was on the search for something that would both clean better than and replace a towel and a brush combo. I came across the Club Scrub on Amazon and I had it saved to buy later for a few months. Finally, I pulled the trigger and spent $27.46 (however it’s on up to $29.99 since then). First Impressions As described. Arrived in a standard Amazon box quick as always. The packaging was more or less just a plastic bag which is okay with me. I'm not one that needs a fancy box to go with a fancy product. I prefer they reduce as much waste as possible. At first glance it looks well-made the seams are nice. The material is nice and nothing stands out as potentially problematic. How does it feel at first glance (touch?) I'm always a little nervous buying things online site unseen. It's hard to judge quality. I'm happy to say that the quality of the club scrub is great. You can tell it's well-made using nice materials. The outside is neoprene in the inside as a plastic scratchy surface not dissimilar to something that you might use to clean your dishes (scratch free). It comes with both a loop and a clip so you can quickly put it on and off your bag which is really nice. It's available in several colors so you can choose a black one if you want to disappear or a fun color pattern if you wanted to stand out a little more The Claims WATERPROOF liner gives you effective clean without the mess. Add a half cup of water to the club scrub before your round and enjoy a clean club with every stroke It's definitely waterproof, no sign of leaking inside or out. This seams are holding up really well. NEOPRENE exterior stays dry all day and can be used to dry and polish your ball and clubs after washing with the Club Scrub. I'm going to have to disagree with this one, I don't think neoprene is the best material for the exterior. It isn't terrible but you can't really use it to dry a club. I still have to keep a towel with me to try it if they were able to get the material to be a little softer and more absorbent on the outside. I think that would be a big win. CLEAN FACE TECHNOLOGY The Club Scrub utilizes Clean Face Technology that gently cleans your clubs and balls without scratching the surface to ensure proper contact, spin, flight, and roll with every stroke. Technology is a stretch here, but the inside as feel really nice. A scratch free plastic scrub surface that does a decent job. It just struggles to get in the grooves and get some of the deeper dirt and grime out. DETACHABLE CLIP provides easy access to the Club Scrub while on the putting green. I really like the detachable clip. I don't really find myself carrying it to the green, but I've never really have been the type of person to carry a cleaning tool all the way to the green I know I should… MACHINE WASHABLE Simply turn the Club Scrub inside out and run it through the washing machine with laundry soap or give it a quick rinse with clean water. Air dry only. I haven't put it in a washing machine yet but it's held up nicely so far. I just dump out all of the water after the round and flip it inside out so I can dry and not get moldy. I think I've flipped it inside out and washed it in the sink once or twice in a few months and it cleans up really nice. No sign of mold or funky smell. Super easy to take care of. I would just make sure to always flipping inside out after the round. On the course I've been using it for a few months now and it's still in my bag so that's a good sign. I think one of the nicest things overall is to just toss your ball inside of it after the hole on your way to the next tee box. It's super easy to keep clean. I still have my towel and brush attached to the bag for now, but I find myself using it on every hole. I don't know that I can replace both a towel and a brush, but it ended up being a nice addition. It seems like it's holding up well and it's staying nice and wet on the inside, which is one of the main things I was looking for. The Good, the bad, the in-between I will start with the nitpicky part. The abrasive material on the inside just isn't quite strong enough to fully clean the grooves. I would imagine it would really struggle with clubs that are not kept as clean. Mine are usually pretty clean to begin with and sometimes it just can't quite get in there. Since the material on the outside is pretty thick, it can be a little bit awkward to clean the club heads, but once you figure out a system it's not to bad. Maybe if they changed the exterior material to genuinely be able to double as a towel—this would be a true towel and brush replacement and improvement. Am I going to keep it on the bag? I originally picked it up with the hopes of replacing both a towel and a brush but I don't think this product can quite do that. I do think however, is a really nice addition. I think I'll be keeping it on the bag for at least the rest of the season to see how it holds up overtime. Highlights Only Please Is this a must have for every golfer? I wouldn't say that. Can it replace a towel or a brush? I'd say probably not. Is it a really nice addition for the golfer that likes to keep their clubs and balls clean? Yes. It's held up well and it's really easy to use. I don't see it coming off my back anytime soon. Total Score 19 / 30 UPDATE July 6th, 2023 I've been using the club scrub consistently for about 3 months now and have mostly confirmed all of the initial pros and cons. Do I like it? Yes. Will I keep it on the bag. It's looking like no. I'm a bit of a minimalist and was hoping to replace two items (towel and brush) with one. The club scrub just isn't quite enough for me to replace both, or even one. I have been playing with all three. I think it could replace a brush if the material inside was able to easily reach the bottom of the grooves--but it can't. It's really hard to fully clean the club with it alone. Using the outside of the bag to dry the club didn't really work well for me either. It still looks like new and is very easy to clean so that's another plus. Overall it's a great idea, and so close to being amazing! I have a friend who also bought one and absolutely loves it. If you don't mind adding one more thing to your bag you might love it, but it just can't quite replace a brush or towel.
