tony@CIC
I had a great month for strength training with 15 days out of 30. I now need to balance that off with a bit more aerobic. Towards the end of April - I ended up modifying my workout to alternate days for upper and lower plus adding additional weight to the reps in the last set. A significant milestone was breaking 164 a few days ago - my goal is 159. A question for those that have been doing both strength training and aerobic for a while - what changes have you noticed in your golf game? It would seem logical to me that both result in longer distances? I'm waiting for some calmer days here in Florida to capture distance data (through Shotscope). It's been so windy here (+20-25 gusts everyday) that I don't think my 2024 distance data is representative of any distance improvements. cksurfdude, jbern, taylorjonasher and 1 other 4 Quote Left Hand orientation SIM 2 D Max with Fujikura Air Speeder Shaft Cobra Radspeed 3W/RIptide Shaft 410 Hybrids 22*, 26* Cobra Speed Zone 6-GP/Recoil ESX 460 F3 Shafts SM7 54* Wedge Glide 3.0 60* Wedge O Works putter V3 NX9-HD - 4 Wheel EZGO TXT 48v cart - too many shoes to list and so many to buy And BAG Boy Golf Balls: Vice Pro Plus 2020 Official Tester Beginning Driver Speed - 78 2019 Official Tester 410 Driver 2018 Official Tester C300

Knight017
I generally go to the gym 4 days a week for an hour and play golf Saturday, maybe a walk with the family on Sunday. I am starting a 4 week challenge at the gym today. I will up my sessions and watch my diet. The big one will be giving up beer and red wine for that period. As I'm 52 I want to build strength for golf and reduce my waistline I will let you know how I go. My daughter was just scooping up broken shells by the handful wanting to bring them all home! We only went out to eat once, at a place called Pinchers (Bonita Springs). I hope you find it informative and inspirational like I do. I like that you have a plan put together to help you get to your goal! Stick to it and I'm sure you'll make it there! It would seem logical to me that both result in longer distances? I don't know that I'm the best person to answer your questions, but I'll do my best. I think strength training and aerobic exercising can lead to increased distances and tighter dispersion. However, I think there is a tipping point where they can also lead to a more "tight" swing that leads to shorter distances and worse dispersion. The best combination for me has been strength training workouts and stretching workouts. The stretching helps with loosening up the swing and the strength helps with distance. cksurfdude 1 Quote WITB (link to detailed post here): Driver: LTDx 9* (ProjectX BlueSmoke Stiff) Fairway metals: 3W TSR2 14.25* (ProjectX BlueSmoke Stiff) | 5W Gen4 0341XF (Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 75 S) Hybrid: 4H Gen4 0317XF (Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 75HY S) Irons: 659 CB 5-AW (Project X Rifle 6.0) Wedges: 286 54* & 58* (KBS Tour 120 S) Putter: DF3 OFFICIAL MEMBER REVIEW HERE ‘24 Ball: pro drip: red & blue | Tour S Pushcart: 4.0 | '23 MGS Clicgear 4.0 Pushcart Tester | Link here

I have gained some distance over the last two years from strength training, but I don't know how much exactly. The main gains came from my swing mechanics improving and a proper club fitting, but I also put in thousands of swings every month to improve my strike. However, having the body to be able to withstand that punishment definitely played a part in it. Squats, pull ups, push ups, leg lifts, deadlifts, and rotational movements (medicine ball throws and slams) all build up the core to be able to support taking hours of swings. Cardio is important for overall health, but I don't really know that pushing your V02 to its upper limits will translate to distance gains. taylorjonasher
Today's Workout - FFG Week 3/12 - Velocity "C" - https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/15187128277 Good workout today. I got 4 good gym sessions in this week ahead of my day off to "entertain customers" tomorrow on the golf course for a fundraiser scramble. It's all for me, and sales are secondary. I haven't really played a whole lot since beginning FFG, aside from 36 holes after the first week. I'm interested to see what everything feels like tomorrow. It's still really early in the program, so I don't anticipate to see anything markedly different, I think if anything I should be less fatigued and sore the day after from all of the rotational work that this program emphasizes. We'll see! Today's Weight - 187.2 Yesterday's Calories In: 2,041 Yesterday's Calories Out: 3,611 Had the first 7U baseball game of the season last night; so I definitely got my steps in yesterday. The boys ended up losing by 3, but they played really well. A couple of innings didn't go our way, hitting directly at fielders with a couple of untimely strikeouts (it's coach pitch, and I've got one of the best ERA's around - I throw SMOKE). But if you're looking to add 10-15 yards, I wouldn't tell you to run three 5k's a week or ride the bike for an hour day, I'd tell you to increase strength and speed. jbern, Owengeorge13 and cksurfdude 3 Quote Titleist TSR3 // Tensei 1K Black 65g Titleist TSR3 3W 15* // HZRDOUS Black 70g Titleist U505 2i // HZRDOUS Black 85g Taylormade P770 4-PW // Nippon NS Pro Modus 3 105g Callaway JAWS MD5 50* Callaway JAWS Raw 54* / 58* Taylormade Spider GTX Single Bend Splitback / Ping Zing 2 Titleist ProV1 // Srixon Z-Star XV (Depending on how much money I want to lose any given swing)

jbern
I had a nice workout this morning. It was a push, pull, squat day. All of my favorite moves rolled into one workout (bench, lat pulls, squats). I'm not sure if I like working out first thing in the morning better or in the evening after everyone goes to bed. I feel like I have more energy for the workout when I do it in the evening (I'm a night person), but working out in the morning is a nice way to set the day up. taylorjonasher, ejgaudette, Owengeorge13 and 2 others 5 Quote WITB (link to detailed post here): Driver: LTDx 9* (ProjectX BlueSmoke Stiff) Fairway metals: 3W TSR2 14.25* (ProjectX BlueSmoke Stiff) | 5W Gen4 0341XF (Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 75 S) Hybrid: 4H Gen4 0317XF (Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 75HY S) Irons: 659 CB 5-AW (Project X Rifle 6.0) Wedges: 286 54* & 58* (KBS Tour 120 S) Putter: DF3 OFFICIAL MEMBER REVIEW HERE ‘24 Ball: pro drip: red & blue | Tour S Pushcart: 4.0 | '23 MGS Clicgear 4.0 Pushcart Tester | Link here

taylorjonasher
Today's Workout: 3 mile run - https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/15241755699 Weight - 187 - 188ish (my scale is off at home) Yesterday's Calories In: 2,192 Yesterdays Calories Out: 3,301 Friday's Numbers In: 2,846 Out: 3,778 Get our a**es handed to us this weekend at the tournament. Got home at 11am this morning and decided to go out for a run. Felt good after a mile and change so I took the detour down the farm road and around the golf course. Got 3 in and it didn't feel too bad. Need to make sure that I try to get some running in once per week, but I just don't like doing it. Not before, not during, not after. Played not so great scramble golf on Friday; I hit some pretty good approaches (best day with the irons this year), and short game was pretty good. Drained a 30' for birdie on the first hole, then never made a putt the rest of the day. I had fun and had a couple beers with some really good friends, so it wasn't a terrible day. Been very consistent with my calorie tracking. It's pretty much second nature to eat something and plug it in, or at least make a note of it so that it can be plugged in later. The only things I don't log are coffee, water, or Bubbl'rs - any other beverage with caloric value I'll log. Those are so negligible (5 cal for the Bubbl'r, and 2 for a cup of coffee) that I don't bother with them - they collectively add up to about 8-10 calories per day. I hate wasting time… FallenSaber, cksurfdude, jbern and 1 other

jbern
Had a nice workout this morning. It was the start of a new 4 week Tonal program called Torched. Today's workout was 100% upper body push. Also had a pretty good weekend calorie-wise. I still haven't done a weigh-in because the batteries on my scale are dead or it doesn't work and I've been too lazy to replace. I guess not being lazy is kind of what this thread is about taylorjonasher, ejgaudette, cksurfdude and 1 other 4 Quote WITB (link to detailed post here): Driver: LTDx 9* (ProjectX BlueSmoke Stiff) Fairway metals: 3W TSR2 14.25* (ProjectX BlueSmoke Stiff) | 5W Gen4 0341XF (Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 75 S) Hybrid: 4H Gen4 0317XF (Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 75HY S) Irons: 659 CB 5-AW (Project X Rifle 6.0) Wedges: 286 54* & 58* (KBS Tour 120 S) Putter: DF3 OFFICIAL MEMBER REVIEW HERE ‘24 Ball: pro drip: red & blue | Tour S Pushcart: 4.0 | '23 MGS Clicgear 4.0 Pushcart Tester | Link here

taylorjonasher
Today's Workout: Fitness Evaluation (no data logged) Today I hung out at the University Wellness office for a "fitness evaluation". I was perusing their offerings a few weeks back and saw that they offered one free of charge to me, so I said "why not?" and signed up for it. Turns out I'm in pretty good health with the exception of my shoulder flexibility, which was confirmed to be dogsh*t. Blood pressure was great, heart rates before and after exercise were excellent, spine flexibility was excellent, and I was calipered at 17.3% body fat. Afterward I sat in the steam room for 15 minutes and stretched.
