tdc1
Disclaimer #1: I understand the focus of the ball test using the Maxfli Tour with Max Align Technology is intended to be on the usefulness of the alignment aid. However, the advent of “Third Winter” in mid-Michigan sent me back into the simulator once more to try getting some data with my driver. Disclaimer #2: I have an absolute phobia about hitting driver indoors (at least in the set-up available to me) so I’m pretty damn pleased with myself for getting the data below. Disclaimer #3: I was already planning to get a driver “tune up” this Spring but today’s experience reinforced the need for getting some professional input. Enough preamble — on to the results. Club: Ping G425 driver (10.5°) with Alta CB 55 R graphite shaft (head and back weight set to standard/neutral). Balls: TaylorMade Tour Response, Titleist Tour Speed, Srixon Q-Star Tour, Maxfli Tour, and Wilson Triad. Simulator: Uneekor (I don't know the model). I hit each ball multiple times using the 1¾“ Birtee. After deleting obvious outliers (tops/skyballs), 5 shots were included in the data set. Below are some numbers from today's session. As with previous clubs (SW, PW, 8i, 18° Hy-Wood), the Maxfli Tour was top two in terms of ball speed and Apex, but lowest in launch angle. I neglected to take a photo of the dispersion patter but, trust me, it wasn’t terribly pretty — all me, not the balls. As in tests with previous clubs, I could find no discernible difference in sound/feel between the MaxFli Tour and the other balls — I would be comfortable playing any of them based just on this criterion. After hitting the same Maxfli Tour for the equivalent of about 27 holes the only noticeable wear/abrasion can be seen in the photos below. Over heard someone saying 3-5" of snow on Friday! Good thing I got the Maxfli Tour out for 81 holes during our "Spring of Deception" earlier this month. tw1ns
Same issue here in Iowa. 4-6inches expected over the weekend. Just need to get my distance putting test in sometime. May have to shovel a path! Peejer
Some testers have written about durability issues, but I can tell you I’m not seeing the same results. In the pics below, each ball has one full round of play (shot 78 & 79). tdc1
Today’s simulator “discoveries”: (1) it doesn’t matter what ball you use — Titleist, TaylorMade, Srixon, Maxfli — if your driver launches at 19°+ and your backspin is in the neighborhood of 4800, the ball isn’t going very far; and, (2) the ball tracer on those shots sure is pretty to look at. Apparently, I’m only allowed one decent indoor session with driver before my phobia returns. tdc1
The most recent snowfall is rapidly disappearing so I hope to get back to the course on Monday or Tuesday to keep testing. As I mentioned in my intro post, I am a big fan of alignment aids like the TaylorMade Tour Response Stripe and Srixon Divide balls. I find the new alignment aid on the Maxfli Tour really helpful on the tee and for aligning putts. However, the feedback when hitting putts is not as strong to my eyes as the boldness of the design might indicate. So, I have made minor modifications to one sleeve of balls to see if there is any difference. Ball #1: a small red dot to the interior ends of the arrows. Ball #2: a thin red line down the center line of the arrows. Ball 3#: red fill in the outer margin lines of the arrows. I tried not to go overboard with the size of the markings. Will report back. I was kicking around the idea of coloring in the arrows. The arrows are great for lining up, but aren't easy to watch once the ball starts rolling. For that, the Titleist Tour Response or Srixon Divide balls do a much better job. My only hesitation in coloring in the Maxfli arrows was it'll wear off pretty quickly. tdc1, Rob Person and VernL4 2 1 Quote Stealth Driver ZX 3W RadSpeed 3-hybrid P790 (2021) irons (4-PW) CBX-2 GW, SW & LW ER7 Putter Q-Star Tour DIVIDE / Tour - Revolver XL 1500Li Cart NX9 HD Pro Rangefinder / S20 GPS Watch + Launch Monitor Denver, Colorado Home Course: Eisenhower Golf Club, USAF Academy

Peejer
Took the Maxfli Tour MAX ALIGN balls out for yet another spin today. It was in pretty windy conditions (12-20mph winds) and I was actually really impressed with how they fared in the wind. The ball didn't balloon and generally held the line or at least had intended flight patterns based upon wind direction. I hit 14 of 18 greens, which is pretty exceptional for me, especially on a very windy day! I have a tournament on Friday and another on Saturday - I'm putting these balls in play for the two events!! -- Peejer VernL4, Rob Person, Shrek74 and 2 others 4 1 Quote Stealth Driver ZX 3W RadSpeed 3-hybrid P790 (2021) irons (4-PW) CBX-2 GW, SW & LW ER7 Putter Q-Star Tour DIVIDE / Tour - Revolver XL 1500Li Cart NX9 HD Pro Rangefinder / S20 GPS Watch + Launch Monitor Denver, Colorado Home Course: Eisenhower Golf Club, USAF Academy
