SPY VIP The Dansome Posted September 13, 2012 SPY VIP Share Posted September 13, 2012 I emailed Ping this morning to inquire about restoring my 20+ year old Eye 2's that are just sitting in the closet. Just wondering if anyone here has had experience with restoring Pings and/or what to expect. Yo #JustPlayBetter Follow @GolfSpyMBP
RoverRick
I have a set that my neighbor was playing last weekend still. My question is restore them to what? Mine look like they did in 1984 or whatever. Compared to a new Hogan club of that era or Wilson, Macgregor, these Pings were down right ugly. They were functionaly as heck. And so darned durable. Man, my neighbor borrowed them over a year ago while waiting for me to replace a shaft he bent hitting a tree with his Callaways. He has yet to return them and still plays with them because they are so easy to hit. The grooves are still in fine shape. I am not concerned about them wearing more because he does not hit the same grooves twice. Now if the were the BeCu's then that is different. RoverRick
I just want em all shiny and sparkly. Sorry, I do not remember mine being shiny and sparkly. But I bought them used. But man they are great irons. I played with them for a while last year. I also had a set of BeCu ISI that I played with a few years ago. Shambles
I just want em all shiny and sparkly. They were never " ...all shiny and sparkly... ". Brand new they were rather grey in a clean way. Some friends foolishly polished their clubs to a high shine and ended up with mirror brights that were a nuisance when the sun reflected off the shiny heads and into their eyes. SPY VIP The Dansome Posted September 13, 2012 Author SPY VIP Share Posted September 13, 2012 Yes they were and still are a dull grey color. I just want to add a little life back to them if I'm not going to play them, that is all. This is more of a trophy rack adventure rather than a playability thing. I've seen them redone in the Guyson finish and it intrigues me much. Yo #JustPlayBetter Follow @GolfSpyMBP
Shambles
Have a caution polishing them. That stainless polishes mirror bright and doesn't want to dull all that much. To my eyes they looked a bit strange and their owners didn't much like them after a while. Nothing seemed to be lost in the playability side, other than the excess brilliance. To my eyes they ended up looking cheap so I stayed with the original finish and simply did what I could to keep them clean. Shambles
RookieBlue7
The guyson finish is where it's at. Looks niiiiice. Another option is walnut shell blasting them locally.
