apprenti23
Does anybody have any experience doing a "forced patina" on brass? My new MA66 http://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/14257-mannkrafted-ma66-putter/is gorgeous, but I hate glare. Want to get this bad boy nice and dulled up before I take it out and miss putts because I can't see.

RookieBlue7
I've done forced patinas. Here's a few methods to do it on copper or brass. Spread a very thin coat of mustard all over the head and let it sit for an hour or so. Wash, rinse and repeat.Vinegar works best if you put it in a pot and bring it to a low boil. Hang the head over the boiling vinegar. It takes a while. An alternative is to boil it and brush the boiling vinegar on with a cloth, letting it dry between brushings. Be careful, it's hot. It also stinks.Lastly, boil 3-4 eggs. Once they're done, crack and remove the shell and throw them in a bag with the putter head as quickly as possible. Leave it for an hour or so and check it. Pull the head out when it gets where you want it.I'd have posted sooner but I just saw this. apprenti23
RB thanks! So just regular mustard? And that's it or I have to do all three things? Wife is gone on business next week so it may get smelly in here!
RookieBlue7
Regular mustard. It usually does most consistent, but keep an eye on it. It'll start then go dark on you really quickly if you're not watching it. The boiled egg one works really well. Be cautioned though you may not see exactly even patinas. All forced patina methods seem to not get 100% even In The BagDriver: TaylorMade M2 (2017) w/ Project X T1100 HZRDUS Handcrafted 65x Strong 3 wood: Taylormade M1 15* w/ ProjectX T1100 HZRDUS handcrafted 75x3 Hybrid: Adams PRO 18* w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"4 Hybrid: Adams PRO 20* (bent to 21*) w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"4-AW: TaylorMade P770 w/ Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Black Onyx S400 SW: 56* Scratch Tour Dept(CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold SpinnerLW: 60* Scratch Tour Department (CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold SpinnerXW: 64* Cally XForged Vintage w/ DG X100 8 iron tiger steppedPutter: Nike Method Prototype 006 at 34"Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. RookieBlue7
Did LaMont beadblast it? You can tone it down a little more with some scotchbrite. That and a beadblast both will calm it down a good bit. Then do the forced patina. First brass putter, I know it's soft, so extra tentative.
