I carry all Ping clubs in my set-up but all different models….11 club setup counting putter… tighten up the gaps as the numbers get higher.  I play to a 12 hdcp. I play all different because these are the clubs I feel the most confident each time I hit them.  It’s taken me years to dial this set up in and it’s hodge lodge but works for me.
dr- ping G15 8.5 degree (I also have it as a 12 degree)
    5w- ping I-15
    3hy- ping g10
    5hy-ping g15
    7i- ping g5
    8i- ping zing 2
        I carry 2 9 irons
    9i-ping g5 (42 degree)
9i- ping eye2+ (45 degree) matches modern pw loft
pw-ping eye2+ (50 degree) matches modern gw loft
sw- ping eye2 gorge 56 degree
    i switch between 2 putters
40y/o  ping anser with tungsten weights drilled into the heel and toe super stroke counter balance grip.
ping DOC 15 giant mallet putter.

PW GW and SW all same length and 6* between each. 44 PW 50 GW 56 SW. About 12-15y gap between each depending on the shot.

    1) Putters are so uniquely personal  2) I like pretty things  3) I got tired of collecting ex-wives (much more expensive than any putter)
I currently only own three (down from about 8), Cameron Phantom X 6 STR with a Cameron Jumbo Matador grip and a custom paint job, an Evnroll ER2 CS with a Two Thumbs grip and a Cameron Phantom X 8 with a Two Thumbs grip and a custom paint job.  When one goes cold for a bit the others are ready to fill in (put me in coach!).   Always looking for a new putter that looks great and will listen to me (unlike the wives).

First there is nothing wrong with a single digit player gaming GI irons - I would suspect there’s more that should consider it rather than the other way around but in the end it’s about ball flight, gapping and consistency. What irons, iron/utility, iron/hybrid, iron/fairway combo gives you the right gapping, consistency combo.

Also, you’re honesty about not hitting many greens from 160-180 is refreshing. I’m also a single digit player and I know based on shot tracking that anything over a 7 iron - 155 for me is a 50/50 proposition at best.

Far more important from holding a green from 170 is getting consistent pin high distance with the same ball flight so that you can manage your dispersion pattern, picking a reasonable target where misses leave good up and down opportunities.

Looking forward to reading about how these work out for you once they’re in your bag.

All I care about when I pull a club is that it is going to go the distance, or close to, I am reading on my Bushnell.  My clubs are gapped in the 10-15 yard range.  I am not a pro and if I can get the ball within a reasonable putting range, golf is good at my age.  Golf is about course management, not always going for broke on every shot.  Unless you are tin cup.

Heck I say play what ever works. I guess my set up is sorta oddball going from a 3 wood to a 7 wood. But I have several different shots with all of my fairway woods

I had a teammate in Junior Rep golf who used an old bullseye putter so that he could putt left- or right-handed with it. He reckoned that it was easier to hole putts that broke towards his feet rather than putts sliding away, particularly short-range putts. So on putts breaking to the left, he putted right-handed - on putts breaking right, he putted left-handed.
He did well enough to turn pro, had some minor tour success and now is head pro at a leading Australian golf course!

Just swapped out a 6 iron for 6 hybrid.  Getting older sucks but I hit the hybrid pretty well so none of my buddies have given me crap about it.

My buddy is a 4 cap and hits pitch and chip shots with one hand, side saddle. It seems like he holes at least one every round.
In our Club Championship, he beat a 30 yo 2hcap 7&6 playing from the Blacks. (He’s 71 yo)

I regrip clubs everyday at work and it amazes me how often they change or how long people go without getting new grips.
I play the Golf Pride CP2 pros in midsize on my own iron set. Changed from the MCC +4. I put the new GP CPX on my wedges recently to see how those workout. So far so good. I have the Tour Snsr contour pro grip on my putter, love that grip.

Hey I've seen younger guys carry a 5 7 and 9 wood because they cant hit a 3w off the deck and hate hybrids.

Sorry about no cookies and punch... maybe if we ever get a chance to play sometime.  My wife and I spent 2 weeks playing in the Palm Springs area in January.  In 2023 we will be headed to Phoenix to play with her brother, but likely headed back to Palm Springs the following year; she has relatives that winter there.
Which golf store are you working?  PGASS, Pete Carlson, or Roger Dunn?  We tend to hit them all when we are there.

Met a guy last year and ended up playing a few rounds with him, as he's a co-worker of one of my regular playing partners. He's the same way - driver and irons all righty, then all short game is lefty.

A lefty I play with carries two drivers, and he switches back and forth all the time, often during a round. Seems nuts, but as long as he stays within the 14 club limit, his choice.
Another guy I play league with chips and putts left handed, but all other shots/clubs are right hand. First time I played with him I did a double take on #4, when I first noticed him chipping left handed! He’s the only player I’ve ever known with that WITB.

I currently have two 3 woods in the bag. My old one is a TM Burner '07 that is supper spinny so its hard to get it past 210 carry. So it basically plays like a 5 wood.

A chipper is a far more versatile club than people give it credit for.  Depending on the conditions, I use mine up to 75 yards out and its a great club for hitting a punch shot with.  Not to mention the classic use: greenside chips.  Its pretty much an automatic club around the green.  I can almost always bump and run it to at least 10 feet.

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I dabbled in my youth on a local par3 course but have only been playing seriously for 8 months. Started getting the itch before the pandemic but that stopped things for a while. I'm a double bogey golfer trying to lower my scores every time out.
What do you love about golf? The outdoor views where I am are stunning. But just being outside with good company trying to beat your own personal best score gives it a level of balance between casual fun and competition.
What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? don't know anyone and I've read enough fourms and reviews I figured might as well jump in.
Where are you from? What is your home course? originally from LA but now in Palm Desert. Home course would be Desert Willow
What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? easy the weather and the weather. Golf year round except for the month of over seeding. But it's hotter than hades in the summer but courses are cheap and open.
What do you do for a living? Many things but one being working part time at a golf store.
How’d you pick your user name? I'm lazy and like to abbreviate.
