Yeah, the PRGR makes the price jump pretty significantly, but if you have a radar device already, it's a little more reasonable.  Keep your eyes peeled on Facebook Marketplace or EBay for a used system, as I'm SURE they're out there - I have a RypStick system I just never used that I'll most likely offload, as I really (REALLY) enjoy the app for this so much more, that for me there's no sense in having both.  You could also (probably) find a PRGR for a good price on there, as well.
    Just a thought!

Had my eighth session today. My first session swing speed was 70 and distances potential was 250yrds. Todays swing speed was 85 and the potential distance was 266yrds.

Totally agree with the "cool" factor of the "say the speed" and it records it - super helpful.
That being said, my favorite part of the app so far is that EVERYTHING is tap-able to find out more info about just about every single thing. I just thing that's the most clever implementation I've ever seen - especially when you're just starting out in a program and don't know what's what.
    Super, super clever.

I have to agree. The countdown timer is great for keeping you on pace and making sure you get enough rest.

I also like that it’s basically like starting a race in Mario Kart. beep, beep, beep, BEEEEP.

helps me get revved up and ready to rip the next swing.

If I answer first I can’t repeat something!

My favorite part of the app so far is the voice recognition and countdown timer for swings. It’s completely hands free once you start a session, just swing and call out the radar reading, it’ll count down 15 seconds then do it again.

    October 20th Update:

All of our testers are well into the program and while everyone has had some ups and downs in the first few sessions we're starting to see trends to higher speeds in the testing!
@GolfSpy SAM's program has officially started so with next week's update we'll have him included here too!

I'd like to ask our testers a question:  What has been one of your favorite features of the app so far?  Bonus points if none of y'all repeat!

Would reallllllly like to see a controlled experiment studying the effects of indoor vs outdoor. The first two sessions were outdoor, green grass, wearing spikes. Then I tweaked my back but was able to get mobile enough for a set and... probably shouldn't have (102 eSpeed in the chart below). But all of the sessions after the first two have been indoor, in my garage, wearing trainers. Seemingly despite my best efforts, I am just unable to get as much speed in a confined space, on concrete.

I'm hoping to get outside for my next session and crossing my fingers that my speeds will jump back up.
As a side note, when I went and played last (somewhere around session 4/5), I noticed bigger drives. I didn't get a chance to warm up and my first drive was a dead-center strike, 285 down the middle. Typically, when I'm not warm and just hoping to hit somewhere on the flat part of the club, I don't expect more than 260. Hole 2 I was 310 down the middle. Hole 5 was my next driver and it was a pretty good miss, making it 295 down the right side of a dogleg right.
Am I frustrated that my eSpeeds aren't higher? Sure. But it's pretty tough to argue with an extra 20+ yards in on-course performance.

Happy Friday Testers!  I've updated the top of the page to show our Testing Tracker and progress update for today:

This is just a first so I might play with the format a little but as you can all see our testers are off and running and each with at least 4 sessions completed in the Foundations Program.
For this view we are tracking the eSpeed, which is what that stack estimates your driver swing speed should be with the final swings of your session using the 195g weight configuration.  This is what I would call the "core" weight setup that you use every time to end your session.

Just got this in the mail today and already completed foundations. I agree with @GregGarner that as someone who has speed trained before and is generally in good shape taking two days off feels like a lot. Off to the foundations program to start.

Some early impressions.  The PRGR launch monitor works simply, from the first swing.  Clubhead speed seems pretty accurate, compared to recent driver fittings with GC Quad.  Driver speed during a recent warmup was 88 to 90 mph, estimated carry was 200 to 210 yards, which is all pretty consistent with real-life experience.

Stack hardware looks solid, a “club” with a threaded holder at the end.

5 different weights in a good carrying case.

App installation and initial set up is smooth.  There are videos which clearly (so far) show what I'm going to need to do.  The 15-minute warm-up video shows a number of motions to do to get ready to begin a normal training session, clearly demonstrated by Sasho.

First impression, this is going to be more of a “workout” that I had pictured.  No pain, no gain!
At this stage I've done the baseline session, and the first six of the planned 18 sessions for the most basic training program, Foundations.  The Baseline had me swinging my driver a few times, and swinging the Stack with a variety of weights.  After each swing, I merely say the swing speed from the PRGR, and the iPad app records it.  The app tells me how long to rest between swings (usually about 15 seconds) and between sets of swings (typically 3 minutes).

Here are the results of that baseline session:

As I understand it, each session's plan is based on the results of the baseline and all the previous sessions.  I've now done 4 sessions, each one has had a slightly different set of weights to use.  A few really good things I've noticed so far.  The Stack app works great, really smooth, although I admit I needed to learn a few shortcuts to find some of the available reports.  The voice recognition is good, although at times I had to turn it off and back on for a new set of swings.  A really minor issue.  The app remembers all of your previous swing speeds, and gives positive feedback when a swing or a set of swings is a new personal best.

So here we are, many of my initial questions have been answered.  The Stack gets 10/10 for First Impressions, everything works perfectly.  The more important question remains, will this really increase my swing speed.  Its early days, but I'm fairly optimistic, I think I'm seeing some gains already.

I saw this today on The Stack's Instagram page and thought it would be great to share a little insight to the app for all before this test starts to get rolling!

I know some of the testers are expecting their setup soon, and we are working on planning a kick off call next week which the testers will be waiting to start until after that call.  We'll keep all those following updated as I get a tracking sheet updated and we'll get to follow along and see just how much speed we can gain!

This topic is a great read. I’ve never heard of this. I hadn’t played golf for 12 years until recently picking up the clubs again.  It was always farthest away first. I play with my dad who’s in his 70’s and he still fusses at me for taking a practice swing why someone is getting ready to hit 75 yards across the fairway and I m not in any lines of sight. “Don’t be in a hurry, wait your turn “.

so for the ones that play ready golf, do they help the other players look for their balls? It sounds like no, they just go to their ball and get ready to hit?

As for myself, I use them. I’m a big club ho’ and anything that can keep resale up is a win for me. I use the simple neoprene ones with the numbers on them. The ones with clear bottoms always come apart too quickly. It’s also a helpful deterrent should some jerk be trying to steal them lol.

It has actually become part of my pre shot routine. Pull my club, take off the cover, 1 or 2 practice swings behind the ball while envisioning the shot I wanna hit, hit, clean the club face, put cover back on, and put club away.

This! All day this! I have used head covers since the day I started playing golf. I was taught at a young age that we take care of our things, regardless of cost or usage or whatever. If we own it, we take care of it. Another reason I'll park at the farthest away spot at Costco, even in a blizzard (no one's dinging my doors).
I've transitioned away from the bulkier Castle Bay covers to the neoprene versions from Amazon. They work just fine, and in my routine I just put them in my pocket since they're thin enough to do so. That way I don't lose them the way my dad loses his when he tosses his Castle Bay covers into the cart basket and they fall through the gaps.
You may get grief from those less inclined to take care of their stuff (I bet their cars are full of dings), but I just let it roll down my back.
I had a set of Ping G15's I bought new in 2008 and traded in back in 2020. They looked better than other used clubs I saw that were only a couple years old. How do people play with clubs that beat up?!

Try hitting at the pgatss stores or comparable to get a feel and comparison.  Ask them to email the foresight data to you so if you go multiple times to get trends.  Then find a fitter, it’s well worth it.  I tried a lot of brands, including 923s, g430s and rogue STMax. It just came down carry distance and spin, and the 923s won.  Price of the 923s was the best as well.

I had a set of the dual core. I liked them, but I couldn't get the ball in the air. That was probably a shaft issue. They felt pretty good, though.

If you're taking suggestions, I'd like to throw in Fairfield Glade, TN.
    www.fairfieldgladeresort.com
5 18-hole courses inside the community. All with ranges/practice greens and 2 with chipping areas.
Wyndham manages the resort side, so rentals can be gotten through there as one option.
There are also many owners who have condos for rent here, and we have multiple realtors who work with those owners to get them rented that can be put in tough with the organizers.
It's a bit more towards central, even though it's East biased.
Nashville and Knoxville airports are closest, but others are within driving distance.
Fees are very reasonable, even for visitors. I'm sure with a certain number of guaranteed tee times and with the MGS name, discounts can surely be had.
Beautiful surroundings here in the TN Plateau for those that want some relaxing downtime along with the golf.
Yes, I'm biased as I've been coming here with my family since I was a kid and my parents live here now and even I just moved here in June. Definitely worth considering for many quality reasons.
