  1. I've done pretty well with not buying anything lately. Did get my M1 driver and 5W but traded a bunch of stuff in to get both. Also picked up a SuperStroke Pistol GT 2.0 for my Odyssey Metal-X #7 and I'm loving it.

In the near future I'd like to pick up an M1 hybrid. Hit one at the club the other day with the 25g weight in the toe and loved it.

Unfortunately I just saw the blog post about the Mizuno T7 wedges. I absolutely WILL have those when they come out. I love the blue, but I'm pretty sure they won't be offered in LH.

  2. Played my scratch match play match today. I'm currently at 9.2. Played against a 5.2 that's a past club champion that just doesn't get to play as often anymore.

Started off decent as we both made par on the first 4 holes. Lost #5 after a plugged bunker shot and #6 after a lost tee ball. I was 2 down after 9 he shot 38 and I shot 40.

On 10 he got up and down for par from 80 yards after a chunked second shot and I three jacked to hand him the hole. On 11 he failed to get out of the bunker and I was just short of the green. Shanked mine into the bunker and got stuck behind the lip. 4 down. Got it back to 3 on 12 then we just halved everything through 16 where he closed me out.

Didn't play great but didn't play terrible. Just didn't play well enough to beat a 5 today. Had a good time though.

  3. Tale of two nines today. Played the front 9 from the tips with my buddy this afternoon and shot 41. Played the front 9 again in league from the white tees (we have black, blue, white) and shot 47. Stopped in and had a reuben in between and forgot how to play golf.

Have a scratch match play match tomorrow at 1 if the weather holds out. Will be getting there early to hit wedges, pitches, and chips.

  4. Played in the Lions and Legends at the club yesterday. Basically a two day Ryder Cup style tournament where it's young guys against older guys. Couldn't play Saturday because we came back from vacation.

Front 9 was better ball my partner made a 5 footer on #9 to win 1 up. Back 9 was singles where you play against both of the other two guys. Shot 2 over on the back with three 3 putts and won both of my matches. Had to give one guy 1 stroke and the other guy 2 strokes.

Really happy considering I hadn't touched a club in a week and a half.

Also popped the question to my girlfriend while we were on vacation in Kiawah Island and she said yes. Overall it was a pretty good week.

  5. Shot 79 yesterday. +5 on the front and +1 on the back with 3 birdies. Two doubles on the front.

Got a SuperStroke Pistol GT 2.0 put on my Odyssey Metal X #7 and used it yesterday. Putted lights out. Must have made 7 or 8 putts from 10-15 feet. By far the best putting day I've ever had. Finished with 23 putts.

  6. We now have a season long scratch match play which is nice. I'm not a huge fan of handicapped events. Won in the second round today 3&2. Started off +2 on the front then forgot how to play golf somewhere between 9 and 10. Back 9 was a struggle. Missed three 3 foot putts for par that should have won me all three holes and closed it out on 12. Need to put in some time around the practice green.

  7. Shot a million today. At least it felt like it. Couldn't do anything right. Highlight of the day was the par 5 #17. Pulled my drive right into the trees. Hit 4 hybrid from 229 out to 25 feet pin high. 3 putted for par. Best hole of the day.

Beautiful day and I was fortunate enough to be playing golf. Back at it tomorrow.

  8. Tried to hit balls the last few days and was not successful by anyone's definition. Playing the first round of the season long club match play championship tomorrow vs a 15 handicap....I have no shot. Then playing a three day $250 a man Memorial Weekend tournament. Hoping the later three rounds put some cash in my pocket.

Gotta love the handicap system. I'm feeling sarcastic this morning.

  9. It's been up and down for me the past few weeks. A couple rounds in the 70s followed by high 80s. Tuesday night I shot 39 in league. Yesterday I shot 92. Just a huge difference in the mental outlooks between good and bad rounds. Good rounds I feel confident over everything and don't worry about the occasional bad shot. Bad rounds I feel like I've never swung a club before and frustration takes over.

  10. So the guys whom I played with today wanted to find out just how tough Bayou is. They are a 10 and an 18 respectively. We played from the tips. As a group we shot 82, 103, 109 respectively, 74.8/148 slope.

But here's the deal. The round took 3:29 minutes.

It's not as much about how hard the course is or how many strokes you take is it is being ready to play.

My 82 was like a 76 on an average course BTW. I actually hit it well and for a while it looked like I might break 80. 16 from 210 over a hazzard was too much and I made triple when I hooked my 3 wood into the water left. :(

That's really solid Rev. My buddy shot 84 in his U.S. Open qualifier at Pete Dye Golf Club in West Virginia. Just a brutal course. I think it was 76/145. Granted, it was a huge off day for him. I would've been ecstatic shooting in the low 90s there.

  11. I've got to play the bad guy here for a moment. On a launch monitor I'm able to average out my SLDR at 16.8/1900. That's really about as good as it gets.

However let a little swing flaw slip in and it gets ugly in a hurry. It will creep in too and mind you whatever my flaws I'm a very consistent ball striker. When the swing is just a tad off the ball is going nowhere with the set up that produces 17/1700, it's too close to the edge. Better to shoot for something between 14-15 and 2400 or so, lots of margin for error there.

    Just a word of warning

Well said Rev. Mishits that create less spin will produce shots that literally fall out of the air due to the lack of spin.
