  1. Thank you for the b-day wishes. Have a round set up for tomorrow...
  2. Like most folks, I did top my 3w a lot in the fairway, off the deck, and then read an article from a teaching pro about hitting your fairway clubs just like an iron, and setting up with the ball in the center of your stance. Been good with it since. I usually get these lazer like "stingers", and get about 190-200 yards on good contact...
  3. As I lose too many golf balls during the season from wayward drives, I don't play "premium" golf balls. I play a value ball like the Maxfli Softfli. Good distance, helps me to try to stay in the fairway most of the time. Not so bad around the green, when struck well with a wedge. I would like to play a "better" ball, but not for me at this time. Most of them have too much spin off the tee for me. I have tried quite a few premium balls, and come back to a two-piece balls, which have less spin of the tee. I have heard the argument about all balls being equal off the tee! Sorry, not so! And I have heard this from low capper players that gave complained that certain premium balls spin too much for them off the tee. High capper here, and sticking with my value ball at this time...
  4. I game Cleveland wedges(CBX2's) like I have since I started playing this game in 98. I have a Callaway Diablo Octane 3-wood that may never leave my bag. I have a Snake Eyes hybrid that may also never leave my bag. I play a Ping G410 SFT that might be in my bag for some time to come. I curently play GigaGolf hybrid irons, but, the jury is still out, even after 3 seasons with them. I have a Cleveland HB Soft 11c center shafted putter, which I just keep getting better with each round, when I do play. I due my homework on each club(s) I choose to play, read reviews, try them out, if possible, pick the brain of the salesperson on the floor of the b+m store, to see if they are knowledgeable of the products they sell. Swinging in the sim is a big deal for me, but I would rather test on a course. Long is not the end all for me! I want accuracy, and can this club perform for me in the manner I want. I kind of move around on golf balls, though I do not play tour type balls, because of spin off the tee. I am currently gaming a house brand from DSG, Maxfli Softfli, which was on sale, so I will be playing this ball for awhile. I am a high capper, but that IS NOT because of the clubs I have in my bag. I just don't play, and/or practice enough during a season. Just played Sunday to a 93, after not playing for close to 2 months.
  5. Exactly! That is what I do. I am a high capper, and change the golf ball in my bag from time to time. I play a ball for a certain time, say 4-6 rounds, and determine if this ball is helping me. If not, on to the next choice. I take my time choosing. I read the mfg's. take on the ball, and then read reviews. Right now playing a ball that I have played before, and feel comfortable with this ball, as I am not playing a lot at this time. Been at least a month since I last played. Will be playing a round in a couple of weeks, and this ball will help me stay in the fairway, for the most part. No expectations for my round, just to have some fun on the course...
  6. This has been a subject of discussion for a couple of years now that they are "loft jacking".. Nobody thought about the lower end of the bag, where you might have to add clubs if you play wedges to 60*. If they sell them in the set, say up to the AW, or GW, might as well buy them, then fill in the rest with specialty wedges. I won't buy a set of clubs if the PW is not 45*-46*. Back in the day a PW was 50*-51* on most sets. Now, a PW is 41*-42*, so now you have to fill in 2 clubs just to get to your SW, at 54*-56*, with reasonable gapping.. During a round, a buddy says he hit his 9 iron on that hole, and asked what I used. I said my 7 iron. He says he would have sailed the green using a 7. I said look at your lofts, as they are stronger than mine. He wasn't having it! I said you play yours, I'll play mine...
  7. Nowhere to fashion a closed ziptie or two, and then clip everything to those. Or maybe tie in a small bungie to the cart material, and hang stuff off of that. Must be someway to make it more accomodating. Make a couple of small holes to tie in a ziptie or two. Or maybe try to rivet some plastic loops to the side of the bag. Use your imagination...
  8. Here we go with "loft jacking". PITA as far as I am concerned. Really is changing the game as we know it. Yup, gotta stick another wedge of some kind to fill gaps at the low end, if you want to play with 56*, 60* wedges. Not responding to this topic any further!!
  9. Fill a sink with warm water( not too hot), and enough dish soap to make it sudsy. I use a soft nylon scrub brush. Wet the brush thoroughly, and hold club slightly upside down, and gently brush grips with brush, turning club, and reweting brush as needed. Do not dip clubs in water, and do not rinse! After cleaning, take a dry towel(not paper towels), and pat grip dry. Don't need to rub. I also clean club face with brush, and you can dip the club head if needed, and dry with towel. Then, I wipe shaft with towel, and let grips air dry, by standing up someplace, either inside, or outside. When dry, they will feel tacky again. Been doing this for years, and my grips last a long time.
  10. I base all of my wedge shots off of the bump and run, which I use my 46* PW, and whether or not I can use that shot. If not, I can choose another wedge (50*, 54*, 58*), based on the distance needed, and chip it, fly it to the green, or if I have to shoot out of a greenside bunker. Practicing all of these different shots, and learning on the course is a good way to gain experience as to what will work well for a certain situation. Dave Pelz, the Short Game Guru, is a good place to start, on YouTube.
  11. As a high handicapper that has been playing for 20+ years, I feel that if you are just starting out, or have played for some time, you should have a LW, along with a SW, to learn how to execute all the shots available to you. A LW is invaluable when you are in a greenside bunker with a close pin position. I used a 64* LW when I was first starting out, and it taught me well. Now, I have a 58* LW in my bag, and it works well when I am close to the green, and a bump and run is not prudent. My 54* SW sees a lot of action too, when I am in close proximity to the green, and have made some decent pitches with this club. My 50* GW gets in on the action, along with my 46* PW, which I like to use for b+r shots, when it is the right choice. Learning when, and how to use each wedge is a valuable tool on the course. I would practice those clubs a lot when I first started playing, and read, and watched videos of The Short Game Guru, Dave Pelz. They don't call them the scoring clubs for nothing...
  12. And you can play a range ball, if you want to, as far as I know...
  13. I have always used a cart bag, usually 14 way. A few years back, went to a garage sale down the street from the house, and was looking at a bag with dome old clubs, and a ball retriever. I pulled out the retriever, and the old guy says, "take the bag and everything, I dont play anymore" before I could ask how much he wanted for the retriever. It's a Bennington, and I looked them up on Google. Their cheapest bag is around $300, and the one I have is not on their site anymore. Nice bag, a little heavy, but if I do walk, I use a pull cart. Otherwise I ride. 14 way top, so room for the retriever, with full dividers, as it has a side putter tube. Good storage, with a lined valuables pocket. Really well made bag, great zippers, rivet reinforcements all over. Will be using this bag for a lot of years...
  14. You need to wash it some time!
  15. Been playing these at 2 3/4" in the brite colors for the last 2 seasons. Very sturdy, and never a problem with hard ground. I can play one tee for rounds. I was playing the ZF brand 3-prong white 2 3/4", but they are hard to find at stores, and I don't like ordering off the net, paying shipping. These are not as sturdy as the Maxfli tees, but I did like them. Really low resistance as far as I am concerned. I used wood for years, but tried plastic, and never went back. I just like the durability of the plastic tees.
  16. I too, have a collection from thrift stores. I found a FJ polo at a Goodwill, with a country club logo on it(have no idea), and it is a very comfortable shirt. I've been told it was a $150 shirt when new. Not sure, but ok. I have a few from Kohls, one Nike, PGA, and numerous others. I have 2 polos with Rich Harvest Farms logos, given to me by a member there. I have 5-6 polos given by my employer, with logos, which are very comfortable, and fit well. Most of my polos were given to me, and some from thrift stores. Don't have a brand preference, as long as they fit well, and I prefer moisture wicking.
  17. Maxfli Softfli is a 35 compression ball. Straightfli is 85ish. TopFlite Hammer Control is 70ish, while the Hammer Distance is mid 80's. Also, there is the TF XL, which is 90. Pinnacle Rush is high 80 comp., and for me, was the longest ball I had ever played, but with no manners around the green. I currently play the Hammer Control, with my 80ish swing speed, being a high capper, I like this ball. With my CBX2 wedges, and the "dimple in dimple" cover, it works very well on the greens, as it checks well, with a little run out. I have never tried the the Distance model, but may be more to your liking, with your 90 SS. Hope this helps...
  18. Being that close to the green, and ball in a slight depression, my 58* lob would be my go to shot, hitting from my back foot to keep it moderately low. Try to hit just about a foot or so on the green, let it run to the hole. I don't try to put a lot of spin on these shots, it just kind of happens with my CBX2 wedges.
  19. I'm not so sure about the above, because I have seen it all on these forums. Some golfers are so full of themselves, their "golf ego" is bigger than they are. And then, there are the players that just enjoy the game...
  20. 46*, 50*, 54*, 58*..All are specialty wedges. Cleveland CBX2's, and a CBX Zipcore for the 46*. Can get a 2-piece to check up on the green with these...

    The best ball?

Here we go! Again, as someone said, no right or wrong answers here! If you play a lot of golf, and your game IS where you want it to be, and you don't really lose a lot of golf balls, by all means, play the best ball for you! Even if it's $55 a box!! Me, I don't play that much, and still lose a few a round, a lot sometimes. And being a 20+ capper, I an NOT spending that kind of dough to hit it where I won't find it, which happens, a lot sometimes. If and when I CAN get my game to the point of NOT losing a dozen premium balls over 4-5 rounds, I WILL play that better ball. I play a decent 2-piece ball, that keeps me in the fairway for the most part, and has decent manners around the green. And, what is funny, I don't seem to be losing these as fast as when I put a better ball in play. A urethane cover ball just has too much spin for me off the driver! I really would like to play this type of ball, just need to find one THAT I can keep on the fairway. Still looking, and experimenting with different balls of this type. Would really like to play a 3-piece, for the ability to hold a green on a 150 approach shot. And how about stop and hop from 50 in! Plenty to look at and put in play. I don't need any suggestions, as I move along in my search. I play my 2-piece mostly, and pick up a dozen of something 3-piece, and put it in play during a round, to see IF it will work for me. Went to GolfTec in March for some swing corrections, and now just need to get out there to work them in my game..I will be purchasing $40-50 golf balls this year, and when I find the "ONE", it will be my gamer...

    The best ball?

And that's fine. Does not mean it is "BEST" for me......
  23. If he or Sergio never come back, I will not miss them. I actually enjoy the Tour without all the names that left, but those two are the worst!
  24. I can't believe we are still talking about this. You have to use your imagination on a lot of golf shots. This is one of them. If you are not buying a club to fill the gap, then figure out how to use one your current clubs to fill this need, with a made up shot, using your imagination. Choke down, or swing harder on another club, to fill that gap. A little practice at the range would help with this. What do you do for 20 yard chips? I don't have an exact distance club for this shot, so I have to "make it up", using my imagination, with some learned golf skill mixed in. This is golf!
  25. I play less than 20 rounds in a season here in the Chicago area. I usually start the season wearing a pair of winter type golf gloves, than switch as the weather gets warmer to a left hand glove. I used to buy FJ WeatherSoft, but than switched to the PGASS house brand gloves, PGA Tour. I find for the price, around $7, they are well made, with no issues of seams coming apart, and fit snugly, as they should. I have one of those plastic glove hands, to put the glove on after wearing, and it can dry without stretching, and it will keep a good shape. One glove can last me a season, and I always have a new spare in my bag, if for any reason I want to switch. I have on occasion, washed a glove in the kitchen sink with cool water, and a little dish soap, if it is looking a little dirty, or just want to kind of renew the glove's shape. I rinse it well, put it on the plastic glove hand, and let it air dry, putting it out in the sunshine if weather permits. These are synthetic leather gloves, and even after washing, feel very good, and retain their grip, and never feel slick. I use Lamkin Crossline oversize grips, and I never feel the need to put a death grip on the club with this glove. This is a very good glove for the price, and would invite anyone to try them. They have ALL the sizes, in stock at the store. This is my go-to glove, and I am looking forward to this season...
