YYCRed got a reaction from TG8 in Music on the Golf Course?
I don't personally choose to listen to music while playing, but if I get paired with someone who wants to listen, it's okay. I can deal with it.

You try to replace my Scotty Cameron Squareback, we're gonna have an issue.

I carry the same wood myself--- I hit mine about 220 at sea level---- I also have the matching 5 wood but do not hit it good all the time. Recently I went back in the shop and found an even older Adams 18* 5 wood. It is one of those GT Tight lies from around 05 or so. One ugly SOB but I hit it good. I call it the ugly duckling

I haven't played it yet, but a pro I follow on youtube has played a random club game a couple of times that I have seen. He uses https://kanewj.com/club/ to make it really simple. If you don't have the club that is selected, hit the button again. It makes you try all sorts of different shots.

I've got a 2013 Adams Tight Lies 16 degree fairway wood that just works. Consistently 225 yards. Might not be very far, but I can always count on it.

Exactly. Skull and chunk. Blade, and I've tried the half/quarter swings with little difference. I really just think I need to spend some time with it to get used to it. But thanks for the suggestion!

Lob wedge. It either goes 10 yards or 50. Nothing in between. I still have it in my bag, but never use it. Probably should go and practice with it to understand what I'm doing wrong.

YYCRed got a reaction from tony@CIC in Trouble Finding Ball
I have tried the golf ball finding glasses (whatever they are called, I can't remember), but they didn't work very well. It didn't help that I wear prescription glasses as well, so I'd have to switch, but my wife has perfect vision and tried these glasses with little luck. This was a few years ago, so maybe they are better now, but I wouldn't waste my time or money on them.

I have a very steep swing and was chunky for a while with my blade lob. Recent changes to cavity back wedges but if I can master the blades lob wedge you can too. Good luck

I’m assuming skull and chunk? Blade or cavity back?
i struggled when I first got the lob everything fat. I suggest starting with half/quarter swings practicing. Lobs and art but love them out of sand

YYCRed reacted to Jwhite86 in Playing with better golfers
This is exactly what happens to me... When I play in league I usually play like garbage because the guys usually don't care. When I join a random group or get out with my regular 4-some I tend to play a lot better

It always seems that I play to the level of my partners. If they are better than me, I usually end up having better than average rounds. If they are worse than me, I usually play worse.

YYCRed got a reaction from tony@CIC in The "Jordan Rules" of Golf - How competitive do you get?
I trash talk my regular playing partners, but I expect (and definitely receive) it in return. It's all in good fun. We're not good enough to go that hard on each other.
With people I don't know, there is no trash talk, no gamesmanship. Just play.

It's not just you. Everyone is different, so you will find the whole range of talkativeness (is that a word?) in your playing partners. I generally golf with people I know well, so our talking styles are well known to the others. The key thing I find is that you need to pay a little attention to how you interact with new people and how your talking affects the others - and vice versa. Don't be afraid to tell someone that you don't normally talk much as you prefer the quiet to focus on your game. It might help a bit.

I've had the Jameson and the Writer's Tears, but not the Cider Cask. Can you compare it to any other Tullamore?
I prefer the Redbreast 12 cask strength to the regular 12, but I also really enjoy the 21. Very smooth whiskey. Green Spot is another good one; better than Yellow Spot for me.
How about any Indian whisky? I've got a fantastic Amrut right now - a 9 year old, single cask bottled at 60%. Wonderful stuff.

YYCRed got a reaction from cksurfdude in Have you ever been hit by a ball or hit somene with a ball⛳
Once, yes, but it just rolled into me. It was the third time the group behind us hit when we were within distance on a packed course. No one was going to play through anyone, and the guys behind kept hitting into us without warning. The first time, we turned around and yelled at them. The second, we added a stomping into the fairway of the ball, and the third (the one that hit me) I hit the ball into a pond.

Another favorite of mine is Connemara. It's a peated Irish. More subtle and sweet than Isla Scotch.

Bought a bottle this weekend. It is different than every other Irish I've tasted. Fairly smoky and the finish hangs in there a looooooong time. It was wearing on me by the end of my second pour. Not sure it's an everyday drinker but it's a nice changeup.

Betting is obviously NOT an essential part of golf, but it can be a lot of fun. And personally, I want to win money every week, but I also hope everyone in my regular group breaks even at the end of the year. Its a lot more fun if we're close to evenly matched in the long run.
