  1. Had to cancel today. Cortisone shot in the knee later this afternoon. First tournament of the year scheduled Friday and I need to be ready -- even if it is a team event -- 4 man 2 best ball, one gross one net.
  2. Here's one not on the list that I found interesting
  3. I don't think it's unreasonable to play a round of golf in under 4 hours, regardless of skill level, or whether on carts or walking. And, while I dislike slow play, I am far more tolerant of slower players in front of me (if the reason for their slow play isn't screwing around between shots and taking 14 practice swings each time) than I am if I'm in a slow group. I hate when my group has a slow player in it and the group behind me is waiting on us, regardless of how much I press the slow player. Even though I'm not the slow player, I feel rushed. Crazy.
  4. First of all, those clubs may not be out of your league, at all. Yes, they're not as forgiving as "game improvement" clubs, but that doesn't mean that you can't strike them well. I know a lot of 15 handicap players that strike their irons very well, but can't chip and putt. Go to your fitter and hit the club. You and he will both know soon enough if that's not the right club for you.
  5. Sounds like one of my games.
  6. casually removing the lint from your navel, when suddenly
  7. I belonged to a private club that was similar. No test involved, but you weren't allowed to play until after an interview with the head pro who explained his expectations for each golfer. He also stressed that known slow players couldn't get a prime tee time. Helped immensely! Of course, that's back when private clubs had waiting lines and were run by the pro, not the management team worried about pissing off members. Ready golf and proper use of a cart makes a huge difference.
  8. My current set that is getting replaced has graphite. I was leaning toward lightweight steel or maybe the steel fiber shafts, but testing out different shafts on Trackman convinced me to stay with graphite. New sticks in production with KBS Tour Graphite 70 shafts.
  9. My left knee was replaced 3 years ago and now my right one is ready to be replaced. I'm trying to kick the can down the road with cortisone and try to put off the replacement until October or so. Hate to lose the summer doing rehab and recovery. Knee doesn't hurt to swing, but it's an issue walking sometimes, particularly on the soggy fairways and rough this time of year here.
  10. I used to walk 90% of the time, using either a carry bag or Sun Mtn push cart. For a few years, I used a Kangaroo, which was really nice. With recent knee issues, I'm a full time rider (at least for now). Ideally, when my knees allow it, my bag is on the cart while someone else drives and I walk most of the course. Several years ago, I played Bandon Dunes with a caddie. With the exception of the cost, I could get used to having a caddie.
  11. Your position on the golf course is right behind the group in front of you, not right in front of the group behind you.
  12. 82 today and no "wedge Alan's" today @Shankster
  13. How'd I play today? I don't want to talk about it. Move along, nothing here to see folks...........
  14. Bladed a wedge, hit the pin flush, and dropped 6 feet from the pin.....made the putt.
  15. Greens were shaggy and my putting showed it .... 2 wedge shanks on #10 for a double and finished up with an 84 for the day. Ho hum day but it was nice being out, albeit a bit on the cold side (still).
  16. They always hit well until the check clears
  17. Replaced a sand wedge today .... 54/10 degree Mack Daddy 4
  18. I'll have to keep that in mind. We visit Redmond a few times here and there. Congrats on your new job.
  19. I'm thinking a "shot my age" badge might be a good one....not that I'm close, but it's still impressive. Let's see...I shot 73 at age 67...not that far away, I guess
  20. I'm not one that is going to give out advice to anyone, but I do offer my support in your quest. It's good to have specific and realistic goals and a path to achieve them. Kudos to you! I was single digit for 15 years before some annoying surgeries got me away from the game and I lost my short game. Working on it now and seeing good promise. I will offer this, however, as it's my constant mantra to myself --- tempo, tempo, tempo. Good luck!
  21. Retired MMCM/SS ( US Navy Submarine Service 1970-1990), former stock broker, and now fully retired and full time golf nut.
  22. Did you make the putt? Love those gimmees!
  23. I've had both Leopold and Bushnell (currently the Pro). I believe the optics were better on Leopold, but the Pro is faster than my lesser priced Leopold.
