  1. I am at the same crossroads if you will, I noticed in clubs that in Pro winners played clubs write-ups that many pros are no longer playing the 3D type fairway woods and instead going for main model, easier to hit 3 woods. This may be anecdotal. However have decided that I need the 3 wood to be a go to club when Driver is too risky. Also need it for consistent carry in target golf. Have hit the Paradym 3D fairway on Trackman and my current ST Rogue LS on course. There is a front weight added in both that is designed to add distance but seems to impact consistency. DO you think this makes sense?
  2. if you want a cheap solution, took and old hybrid and wrapped a fishing weight that brought the club weight to slightly less than the highest weight. Followed the recommended training from Stack system without the software. Also have Garmin R10 so can see progress on swing speed. It is about 4-6 weeks before you see any real improvement, but any in house swinging during the Winter is a positive.
  3. Have recently found that with a busy life, complex swing changes take real practice for anyone. Recently went off the rails for a few weeks then took lesson. This setup is much better - on Trackman added 20-40 yards per irons and hit much straighter. However had two golf outings on difficult courses scheduled and went right back to old swing on back nine. Still can't believe myself. Either I get better at complex motion changes or start playing pickleball.
  4. Given winter coming if mats really screwed up your game we are all in trouble. As others have stated mats will give you and advantage on fat shots as club will bounce a little. Our local course has mats with brushes for hitting that in theory make it a little more realistic. With mats you can still work on your swing which is better than doing nothing and off season with mats is great for learning to hit ball first on iron shots.
  5. Practicing see many different methods, was taught to break wrist but switched 2 years ago to solid wrist as fewer moving parts, question what do you think is better and why?
  6. I played in a $150 entry fee tournament at what was once a nice course but in disrepair. Ground under repair and no closer to the hole turned into multiple arguments with playing partner competitors, slowing the game down to a pace that increased the mosquitos. On one hole the fairway was under construction and had dirt path down the middle, another hole had side hills that collapsed like small avalanches and if your ball landed on them you were afraid to walk up the hill and hit. And that was just the front nine, on the back a thunderstorm with lightning came over, no horn, just hanging out in the carts for 2 hours fighting bugs. After the storm standing water on the greens and fairways and a lot of mud. One of my playing partners was such a know it all jerk, who shot a 9 on a early hole, then gave everyone including the foursome in front of us grief. 7 hours later was done. Then ended up late for a dinner party with the wife, and in the dog house. A few weeks later the tournament organizer resigned -no doubt after getting calls from participants.
  7. I use Golfshot with Apple Watch SE. What I like is the on-course hole information that is on the watch. Find it much easier to use than looking at your phone. Btw, also shoot holes with rangefinder as part of routine.
  8. For putting if you are striking toe by accident, you need to take whatever putter you like best and work on puts that start on the white stripe in the middle. Get so you can hit the middle nearly every time. Then work on speed, on practice green hit to the edge, goal is to get to first cut no more than 3 inches on. Then work on putting, like the Jumbo Osaki (sp) drill, from 4-6 ft or higher spread out balls in circle then putt left-right-together handed must make 5 in a row. This is easily 2 hours of practice to start - similar to drive and back to PGA store and shopping inside. Lastly Google Aim Point and follow guidance.
  9. irons are critical for fitting and also follow to wedges, then Driver. If I could only afford one would do irons
  10. Got into it a few weeks ago, watched a few videos on youtube, then worked on reading on practice green with feet. Amazing difference. Not sure if it is just more focus, but really works
  11. Personally switched from 5 wood to 3H. Was hitting the 5 wood to close to the 3 wood. The modern 3H is a great club and more versatile than 5W. For me it also gaps consistently between 4 iron and 3W. However, when I was a worse golfer loved the 5W.
  12. Have a Garmin R10 that works well for directional level analysis. Also use I-phone to take video on swings from different angle. This combination has been quite helpful and relatively inexpensive. Also take a few lessons every year.
  13. I would suggest Outdoor Research, more of a hiking and skiing brand but great. Also in Waffle House comment above be very careful washing, You need to use special detergent with any rain system or you will damage the waterproof layer. from then on you will need to spray Scotchguard.
  14. Want to get thoughts and perhaps start a positive discussion. My thought is that truly rolling back the golf ball distance is a mistake, as will in the end add to the cost of golf balls (unique manufacturer design paid for by us amateurs in cost of other balls). However what if they just cap the distance at the end of 2023 based on real, MGS and better testing. Courses that are tour sites could then be modified based on the new standard. Virtually every other sport caps the ball distance. In this scenario over time the cost of golf balls would drop for us as the designs would mature. Over time swing and equipment changes for the top players will still add to distance but at least one variable is limited.
  15. Depends how scuffed a ball is, not that picky. Where I live during Covid courses took out ball washers, so after rounds washing balls will decide if becomes practice ball.
  16. Spikeless are so convenient and don't have many slipping issues, given the importance of your connection to the ground in golf swing suggest trying on shoes before buying even if then buying online. Btw, same with ski boots
  17. The AMG video is a pretty good description of 3-4 types of faults many of us have. Currently there is snow on the ground so good time to work on this type of change. Past Fall noticed at least one push drive in every 18 holes. This leads to either getting a lucky lie or double. Have to get rid of this come Spring.
  18. This looks like fun. Given a recent snow storm, that may limit real golf for a few days, will baseline in back yard and then Superspeed.
  19. Was on my way to beach and stopped to play golf 4 years ago. Crazy weather dropped temp to 32 degrees at tee time and was wearing shorts. So bought lined guide pants from Eddie Bauer, they are water proof and warm. Used twice since. Also have $17.99 Costco pants that are wind and water resistant, they are cheap and my go to for cold weather golf. Underneath my top wear Under Armor cold gear . Most useful layer in my golf bag is a $30, on sale, well cut fleece top. This has been great in early morning rounds and near sundown.
  20. It is time to make the tour better for fans, given the LIV shake out, and playing a "Championship" on the same, not so great course (although does a lot for charity) every year is just boring.
  21. Just learned to go with "feels" rather than "self talk" and also believe in Thought box/swing box. As a feel example, If I feel my weight shift to back foot in practice swing will be able to repeat weight shift in actual swing. In putting work on speed with feels. Talking too myself just didn't work for me.
  22. Find it fascinating that for 100% of tour pros "at top of backswing, chest and pelvis are moving towards target". Seems like just a few years ago only Rickie Fowler and a few others made that move. This is an interesting analysis.
  23. My Pw is 45 degrees then 50, 56,60. My first 50 was approach club that was too good, would almost do PW distances, so replaced with true wedge. Between 3/4 and full swing, hinge and straight can make most distances from 140 yds in work. The first approach was painful experience.
  24. For 50 yards in there are two common methods. The hinge where you break your wrists and the no wrist. There are advantages to both. If you leave most short can try no hinge. From rough you should open face slightly as easier to get through grass. That alone with same stroke will make it go farther. These shots need to be practiced. The best in the world spend as much time on these as full swing shots.
