PlaidJacket
I've spent a good portion of the day working on a summer tournament series I'm planning on introducing to a bunch of my buddies. It's not huge. Really just three events... spring, summer, and fall. They will played in three different parts of the state and each area is quite different as far as climate, topography, etc. Anyway... I was thinking the Golf Genius software might be handy and useful. Has anyone ever used it? If so I'd be interested in your experience. Thanks. http://www.golfgenius.com/ My Sun Mountain bag currently includes: 771CSI 5i - PW and PFC Micro Tour-c 52°, 56°, 60 wedges EXS 10.5*, 929-HS FW4 16.5* Willimette w/GolfPride Contour

PlaidJacket
Well, I finally got around to trying Golf Trip Genius. To say the least I was disappointed. I signed up three weeks prior to our "trip" and set to work getting everything configured. Or so I thought. Here's what worked and didn't work for me. My recent trip consisted of 54 holes over three courses with 8 players. The initial setup for each player with their handicap was a no-brainer. This also included various pairing along with various games and bets. After I completed the initial player setup I made a basic Trip Book with a short blurb about each player with included their photo and any side events we might want to do such as evening dining, etc. After that I sent out Invites through the Golf Genius email system. So far so good. Next I began refining our various matches, pairings, and bets. I made a daily team Nassau, Skins, Stableford, and a final round of gross and net stroke play for the Championship round. All these games were contested daily with a payout each day. This where the Golf Genius failed the test. For the life of me I could not make the program function as one might expect. I made my first and several calls to support which as easy to do. I never had to wait more than 30 seconds for a guy to answer my call. But again… here is where the Genius turns into a Dunce. After a few moments discussing my frustration with the support guy he said, "Let me get the cheat sheet out and look that up." I have the so called cheat sheet that I printed out from their site. The sheet(s) are supposed to cover every aspect of setting up and using the program. However, when it comes to actually making your games and setting the bets the program fails. If you were using the program to just keep score… yeah it works. But so does a pencil and scorecard. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I recall mentioning a game/bet scenario to the support guy and he said he'd never heard of anyone doing that before. Well, I'd say he hasn't been around golf much. All it was is a team 2-ball Nassau. My conclusion is that Golf Genius might be a product more suited for league play and not necessarily for situations like I've described. IE…. a few guys playing 3-4 rounds with various games and bets. To Golf Genius credit… they refunded my money no questions asked. For us.. we went the old tried and true analog method and used pencils, scorecards, and a large Titleist score sheet provided by the Pro Shop. And we had a great weekend.
