Prodigal Duffer
Had the day off today, so planned to hit up golf league (in the Chasing Scratch sense). Both kids said they wanted to come, which was awesome. Then, son decided he preferred not to, but daughter ended up joining me. This was her first round on a regulation course. We decided she would play from 150 yards in. We were still very slow. She decided not to play holes 3-5 at all. She putted only on 6-7, and then fully played 8 and 9. She hit the ball pretty well, especially considering she has had a total of three lessons and a one-week First Tee camp. This is her second shot on nine (went farther than her tee shot). Her putting was pretty good, too. The big moment of the round came on hole five. She realized she lost her glove, so went back to four to see if she could find it. She did not, and was crying about it. We talked about how these things happen and maybe someone will find it and pick it up. As we walked up to the sixth tee box, a single behind us came up with the glove! Made her day and was a good lesson on kindness. Honestly, I was a bit frustrated with how slow we had been playing and her losing the glove. But that moment turned everything around. We had a ball the rest of the round and I am glad I got to spend a couple hours one on one with my girl.
