Nick_D
It's finally getting warm in West Michigan and my clubs are starting to make their way out of the garage sim and onto the course. Starting off with the Driver. Cobra Speedzone 10.5 degree turned down to 9.5 degrees. I have a little bit of lead tape on the heel to help me think I can close the face with any sort of consistency - shoutout all my fellow headcases on the course. Shaft is a Project X Hzrdus Black 6.5 X Going down the bag to 3 Wood is a Cobra LTDx setup at 16 degrees with a Tour AD DI 7x shaft. This thing is an absolute weapon off the tee, still trying to find consistency from the fairway with it. When the Driver and 3 Wood are both flying off the planet, the 2 Iron finds its way to the tee. Callaway Apex UT 18 degree with a KBS Tour 120 X shaft. Next, a pair of Mavrik 4 & 5 hybrids. These have been a game changer at the long end of my bag after I was struggling with longer irons. I play Mizuno Pro 225 irons 6-Gap. KBS Tour 120 X. I played stiff shafts for a long time and went and got fit for these irons. Getting fit into a proper shaft for my swing has transformed my approach play and these irons have been awesome. Since my iron set has both Pitching and Gap wedges I opted to go with a 50 and 58 degree Vokey SM8. I typically would rather play a bunch of different shots with the same wedge rather than pull a different loft. I'll grab the 58 for anything around the green and the 50 for pitches or approach shots. Last but not least is the newest addition to the bag. Scotty Cameron Teryllium Longneck Newport 2. I am a bit of a putter nerd and switch putters faster than any other club in the bag, however, with this entering I'm hoping it will make itself comfortable (famous last words...) Nick_D
So the first update comes a little more quickly than I thought... I was walking around my local golf shop when I noticed they had a really good deal on Mizuno drivers and picked up a ST-Z 220 driver. I had remembered seeing good reviews and praise from some members on here and decided to pick it up. I didn't have many choices on shafts and ended up with a lighter Evenflow Riptide counter balanced shaft that really didn't end up suiting me. So I just switched the adapter on my current Project X Hzrdus Black 6.5 X and its been great. 10.5 head turned down to 9.375? - according to their website about the adapter Comparing directly back to my Cobra Speedzone, the biggest differences have been the forgiveness and spin. All the reviews I had seen about this driver were that it is VERY forgiving and I can vouch for that claim. I had a two-way miss going with my Speedzone and was losing confidence off the tee. First round with the Mizuno and I could hit it all over the face and every ball went much straighter than expected. It is a little less draw biased than the Cobra which has helped me get my consistent fade back. I haven't had a lot of time on the sim due to getting a puppy and my golf time being out on the course, but the few numbers I've seen have my spin down on average 500-1000 less than the cobra which was just what I needed to get a little extra distance. My spin on a decent strike now lives around 2500 give or take. Next time I have some time in my garage I'll get more detail, but I've been really happy with it so far. Anyone else gaming a Mizuno Driver? Also, since I mentioned the puppy.... My wife wouldn't let me name him Rickie, so here's Fitz!
