My favorite club in the bag has always been the putter. I love looking at everything putters: old ones, new ones, shiny tour putters.. you name it. Recently I started to refinish a few older Scotty Camerons in the garage and figured I'd start a thread for all my putter projects! To start off, I found a pretty nice deal on a Pro Platinum Newport Mid Slant. It was pretty beat up and started to have a few rust spots.

I should have taken pictures while in progress, but I spent some time on the bench grinder and in the blast cabinet. Got all the dings out and got to a nice, consistent finish. Then sprayed some H-Series Cerakote coating on it and did some paintfill!

After all was said and done, I'm pretty happy with the final result! And to my surprise the head weight was still bang on at 330 grams.

Stay tuned for the next project in the works.... hint it has a welded long neck and will never leave my collection!

That turned out great! This is something I've always wanted to get in to, but have zero idea where to start. I may have to come to you for some advice.

This should be in the mail from Hudson Made! What do you think, should I do some stamping or leave it clean?

I personally prefer the clean look. I do have to ask if the putter is legal; neck seems pretty long.

I'll give it a measure once I get it in the mail! The legal 5 inches does look VERY long though. This picture is a putter Gary Woodland used in the 2022 US Open and the neck is crazy long too

Part of me thinks it's looks fine clean, but another part of me says a simple stamping on the heel or toe would look nice.

Just received the Hudson Made putter in the mail today and can confirm it is legal! The 5 inches from sole to socket does look pretty ridiculous, but I LOVE the way a long neck blade looks.

Here are some side by side photos with my Newport 2 Longneck. I haven't put a shaft in it yet, but I expect it to be very close to face balanced.

I'm still waiting on some stamps in the mail to add a little bit of stamping. You might be able to guess what at least part of my plan is based on the milled dot in the heel on the face of the putter. I do have to admit it looks VERY good clean....

It is definitely right at the 5 inch limit when you add in the hosel offset.    Nice looking putter!

Stamping update on the Long Neck project! I fired up the bench grinder and did a little bit of shaping to get the final look and weight to where I wanted it. Then finished off by polishing the sole and face. Next up was stamping! I had originally planned to do a lot more, but I agree with the previous discussion that keeping it clean looked best. This was my first go on stamping anything and I practiced on a few old wedges first before going right at the putter. Its not perfect, but that's the beauty of hand stamping in my opinion.

 

I prefer a firmer feeling putter and this turned out perfect. Has a ton of feedback on mishits and has a beautiful, pure sound. What are your thoughts on the paintfill? I considered going black, but figured I'd try out the translucent red to start....

Looks great.  I like the minimalist stamping.  Personally I'd do something besides red;  too Cameron looking.     If you want subtle black or gray.  If you want a little pop a lime green, yellow, or chartreuse.

I agree with Chris on the paintfill, anything but red. My vote is for something purple or seafoam green.

That was my exact thought when I was doing it, but the translucent red looks so good in the face dot. I'll probably go with translucent blue or just black next!

I'm glad you guys suggested switching the paintfill, I think the black looks a lot better. finished it off with a black stepless shaft and a Garsen Quad Tour non-taper grip. What do you think?
