Fitness Goals: Helping Each Other Reach Our Goals

I've fallen off the wagon, so to speak, and have not been able to maintain any sort of schedule with work and personal life being so crazy. I'm back to square one starting fresh and re-committing myself to a routine. Time to get back on the horse.

Life happens. Start over tomorrow. Find that balance that makes the routine work. Success doesn't taste as sweet unless you've failed a couple times. Get that ass back up on that horse and ride!

Hey fellas

I’m in that boat as Preeway but different reasons. My low back and bulging discs, sciatic all decided to flare up at the same time. I tried to push through, but that extended my recovery time. I finally just stopped everything “excluding work” to try and get this under control.

the last 3 months have been crap physically and my mental status had fallen into the outhouse as well.
I’ve gone 3 separate chiropractors, 2 physical therapists, and luckily I found a fantastic massage therapist. If it wasn’t for her, I’m not sure I would have made it through my dark days. Also only one acupuncturist. I will attribute the last month and getting back to the gym to massage and acupuncture.

I joined orange theory and have made some good progress with that and also a personal trainer who awesome at working with my limitations.

sorry for dissertation, but I’m exited again to be back in the gym and moving even if it slow right now.

a month ago there is no way I’d pick up a golf club, today I put my clubs in the truck and hoping to hit some golf balls today even if it’s only 20-30.

Keep up the good work fellas.

Keep plugging! Find what works and stick with it!

With the wife out of town, I don't really have a lot of time to get anything in. I skipped yoga yesterday like a turd, and I don't have time today to get anything in. I am planning on hitting shoulders tomorrow morning and hopefully have time to get legs in as well. We'll see!

I was able to get out and play some indoor golf on a Golfzon system. It was about seeing IF I could swing a club without pain and how would I feel the next day.

I feel pretty freaking good with normal stiffness and soreness from not having used golf muscles in quit a while. So I am pretty stoked this morning.

Stretching is done for this morning, so we shall see how the rest of the day goes.

Golf game was ok, I had to go up a club in distance and could not get a ball to go left.

Back with my weekly accountability post. Kept up my yoga classes, but slacked on adding more cardio/keeping up with golf swing practice this week.
Looks like weather is trending into the 60s next week, so committing to add at least one run next week (should probably dust off the bikes and do maintenance too).

Weekly summary:

  • 5 yoga classes: 3 power sculpt, 1 hot yoga, and 1 restore. Heavy on the abs this week, hoping by summer I'll have at least one.
  • Walked 18 holes on Monday at a new course: don't count my steps but this was definitely more walking than usual
  • 1 night of swing practice: hectic week for me and didn't make much time for golf, focused mostly on rolling putts at home this week

36 degrees outside.  I’ve been going to my course I belong to, to hit some balls.  I bought a mevo a couple weeks ago and I’m really excited to use it all the time.  Hitting balls can really burn some calories when you’re walking out to shag them as well.

Workout this morning: Push Hypertrophy Week 2 / 4 - https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/14033037592?share_unique_id=187

I was surprised to find the dumbbell area full this morning at 535, especially since half the parking spots were empty. I started with tricep extensions, which are normally the last thing I do, and everything else suffered as a result. Oh well. This weekend was rough for caloric deficit. Friday night I celebrated my daughter's gymnastics meet podium appearance with too much pizza and two absolutely fantastic beers (Pulpit Rock Westerday if you can find them). Saturday and Sunday I did not track at all and know I went over both days. Back at it this week.

I was sick over the weekend so I didn’t get a chance to do my meal planning for the week. I’m also down a bunch of calories from not eating much so we’ll see how leg day on the Tonal goes this afternoon.
The weather is supposed to warm up in my area this week so hopefully I can get some outdoor exercise in also!

You’ve got to celebrate every once in a while! Especially when it’s for the children! 😊

My son’s bday was last weekend and I know I ate more than my goal calories, but I did a fairly good job staying on track last week until I got sick over the weekend

Todays workout: Hypertrophy Pull  Week 2/4

Weight: 195.5

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/14054063892?share_unique_id=190

A little abbreviated today due to my flight, but still managed to get some great reps in. Somehow managed to lose 5# overnight - WT actual F. I must retain water like a pregnant lady, maybe I should get my hormone levels checked. Off to Miami for a couple days for work, hopefully the gym has some decent equipment, because I don't really want to have to use the running shoes I packed for an emergency.

I am right there with you. I could never put in the time to adequately count my calories burned so it really doesn't motivate me to count them going in. But I really should find a way.

I have the MyFitnessPal app, it literally takes 30 seconds to input whatever you just ate. So far today I've logged the 4 beers I've had poolside and the breakfast I ate. Took me all of 2 minutes collectively to know that I have consumed 900 calories and probably need to go for another walk. It's not brain science or rocket surgery - make like a Nike ad and just do it, bruh!

I have a fit bit and it also has a tracker, I've used in the past. The issue I have is when I need to make adjustments to food I’m trying to enter. Like removing mayo of a sandwich (Jimmy John’s) it’s a PITA to add what I actually eat. It takes longer than it’s worth to me.  I guess I could just enter it as is, but then I feel like I get hosed out of precious calories I so desperately try to savor.

I’ll give it a whirl and see how I do. Should be fun as I have the seafood festival this weekend. I already know that’s going to be an entry issue.

At the end of the day you're going to be within a few hundred calories, which is close enough. Pair it with a consistent exercise routine and you'll have a coherent idea of what is going on vs what is expended. It's more about having a good idea of what the energy potential of the foods you consume vs. the effort you put out if you are working towards a goal. You can't lose weight if you don't know what you are eating within a few percentage points, and this app makes its pretty dang easy for me.

Also - smash some seafood for me at the festival! Iowa isn't exactly known for it, so it's a delicacy that I don't get to indulge in much!

Home made dinners are tough as well. Tonight we had Beef roast with Bok choy, onions, cup of cooked rice (easy to load in the app) and just a green salad with carrots, mushrooms and french dressing.

Order taken on the Seafood, I'll see if I remember to take a few pics as share.

I do miss me some good Midwest corn on the cob in the summer.  It just isn't the same out here in the Oregon.

Feeling some of the fitness coming back even as the weight loss is slow going. Did a 5 mile run yesterday at 7:20 per mile pace. Have not been that fast in a couple years at least. Felt great to get moving like that.
