SPY VIP GolfSpy_X Posted March 18, 2010 SPY VIP Share Posted March 18, 2010 Remember the Plop Brass Putter that was widely used on tour back in the day? Well Jake Schmidt is back at again. He sold the Plop Putter company back in 1996 to Zevo Golf but bought the company back and has come out with another unique putter concept. The finish on this model is a Bronze PVD (Pressurized Vapor Depository) no maintenance. The insert is aluminum which covers the entire face...actually a nice looking insert compared to some others. The shaft on this limited edition model (1 of 2) is also a Bronze Satin Finish which matches the head. This putter has the new unique (CSH) Center Shafted Hosel. http://www.plopgolf.com #TruthDigest
jamo
At first I didn't realize that the neck extended all the way through to the middle but, wow, that really takes some master craftsmenship. The headcover looks great too.
SPY VIP GolfSpy Dave Posted March 18, 2010 SPY VIP Share Posted March 18, 2010 This looks like something that I would take out and drive around the practice green. I am not that familiar with the mechanics of this though. I assume the key feature of this is tone based upon the graphic. Connecting the sound of impact to feel? Matt Saternus
I'd like to give these a roll. Their claims about the benefits of the CSH are pretty ambitious - bigger sweet spot and higher MOI. I wonder if the difference is big enough to feel when compared head to head with a normal plumbers neck. SPY VIP GolfSpy_X Posted March 19, 2010 Author SPY VIP Share Posted March 19, 2010 Putted with it a little yesterday and today and the feel is very good. I have not had a chance to really go head-to-head against other plumber necks yet to really see if I can tell much of a difference with the hosel. But the quality is top-notch on this one all-around. putterplating
Interesting design. The way the neck extends and the center piece in the back cavity makes me think that off center hits would feel completely different. Not that it really matters but PVD stands for physical vapor deposition. I have yet to find a finish that is maintenance free. Water & golf course fertilizer are a lethal combination for any finish. http://www.putterplating.com/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/27785952@N03/
SPY VIP GolfSpy_X Posted March 19, 2010 Author SPY VIP Share Posted March 19, 2010 Not a noticeable difference in sound on center hits compared to off center hits. The aluminum insert does have a slightly different feel from other aluminum inserts. More of a high pitch sound at impact then other aluminum inserts. Did you notice any difference in tone? If so, did it vary with face position impact? #TruthDigest

NGage
I was working in golf retail in the early 90's when PLOP hit the scene. We sold them as one of the first putters to be custom fit to each customer. They were nothing like the one above, however. That one above is the best looking PLOP putter I've ever seen. It'd be very interesting to give it a try.

Spinning on the green with arms out after putting maybe before Neither more or less interested, though I probably wouldn't bag it if I wasn't making a bunch of putts with it. Seems ripe for some quality mockery. Follow me on Twitter: @MattSaternus

Matt Saternus
Did you look at the back to the future one on their site. "McFly, you misread it. Nice putt McFly" um, no I would definitely do that if someone in my group pulled that out. If it were mine, I'd probably just hide the headcover so I wouldn't have to listen to that. Every model like this: Only difference was you could custom fit the customer for lie and length. Thanks. I'm not a centershaft guy, so I definitely like this newer model more.
