I started with second hand TaylorMade RBZ irons and an 0211 PXG driver bc it was affordable..loved the driver and didn't see a lot of PXG on my local course, so I bought the xcore2 irons but after swinging the sim2 driver, I did finally give up my 0211 driver GolfSpy_APH and Rob Person 1 1 Quote Bubba Ivy

Wheelieb
Welcome. When I first started out I had top flite clubs and no wedges to speak of except the obligatory pitching wedge. Then I got hand me down wedges which were great to use when I learned how to hit proper wedge shots. I've gotten pretty good at the bump and run and putting from the fringe but the 30-40 yard shots are killing me.. Id rather be 160 out than 40 from the green During my escapade of forgetting clubs I grabbed my 4 hybrid. Hit it just like a long putt or a bump and run. It was actually really enjoyable to play that way. you know the ball is going and it wont be shanked so gives you some confidence but distance is a tough tell ToastedSoul and Rob Person 2 Quote DRIVER G425 MAX w/ Mitsubishi Tensei Orange RAW 55 S 12* WOOD STEALTH 2 Plus 3w w/ Mitsubishi Kali Red 65 S 15* HYBRID G425 2h w/ Mitsubishi Tensei Orange RAW 65 S 17* HYBRID G410 4h w/ Mitsubishi Tensei Orange 65 S 22* IRONS 919 Forged 4i-PW w/ Dynamic Gold 105 S300 WEDGES Glide Forged Pro w/ ZZ115 W 50*/58* PUTTER FRONTLINE 8.0 w/ 35" Slant neck 3*
Rob Person
Welcome to the site! What wedges do you have, and what issues are you experiencing? I had alot of problems with my wedges at first. Sand wedge was the worst for me (still is, unless it's a full swing shot) Depending on the shot you are using for it, I would recommend practicing and trying different techniques. I spend alot of time trying different grip positions, stance changes, ball positions, shaft leans, etc. Once you can commit them to muscle memory, they can be a great benefit. ToastedSoul
I've recently picked up the book "3 Releases: The Short Game System by Daniel Grieve" and this has helped me tremendously lately with everything 90 yards and in. Nice and clean explanations, the book is not to long to read through and Dan shows his technique also on his Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@DanGrieveGolf/videos Rob Person 1 Quote ---
ToastedSoul
Dan's (currently latest) video here gives already quite some details about his system: I would still recommend to get the book (at least I learn better when I read), although you could probably puzzle together most of the contents by just watching all of his videos. Karls0991
I think it can be a great idea to just carry 1 wedge and get really good with hitting a variety of shots with it. Get comfortable with full shots, wedge matrix, and chipping. Once you have that down you could always add another one in the bag. Who cares about the number of clubs in your bag if some of them are costing you shots or enjoyment.
