Popular Post Medfloat
Good afternoon to all, Hope you got to see my first attempt of stop-motion photography of the Maverick unboxing, The bag is a beaut and even has a pseudo new-car smell! Who doesn't like that new car smell, right? The bag is soft, very light...sooooo light in fact that it didn't register on my scale. Wish I didn't register on my scale but I like ice cream too much. Dang that sweet tooth! Anyway, back to Mav. Even though it may be light, it has a solid feel to it. The base is wide enough so the bag plants to the ground, the strap has a soft side where it contacts the shoulder, the hooks on the strap ends are beefy and have a nice finish. There are three handles on the top, one of which is covered in a leather wrap, nice touch! The zippers are larger than the ones on my Ping Pioneer and have pulls on them that are easy to use (you can see the round barrel pulls hanging off the zippers). Plenty of pockets set up in a symmetrical manner with cooler pouches and bottle slots galore. Oh, and a secret "pocket" that @Mike10487 found. It is accessed via the bottom front pocket and up, behind the upper pockets. Great place to hide a sub sammy and a bottle of Weller hehehe shhhhhh. Initial thoughts? Too many to list but let's just say this is the nicest bag I have had or seen. Later, I will tell you more about this when I get all my thoughts and media organized post initial inspection. Until then, (say it with me this time) hit 'em straight and one-putt all day long! Medfloat
Evening folks. Just wanted to add to @Dan1993 and his observations with a pushcart. First off, I had the thought of keeping my review posts in chronological but what the heck, just let the info flow...The pushcart I used periodically is the this TourTrek 4-wheel. It was my daughter's when she played in US Kids Golf. The bag fit very well on the cart and the straps attached without issue. The top strap fit in the cart-strap slot and under the front pouch without issue, the bottom strap wrapped snugly around the solid base. The photo above shows the strap going around a reinforced edging intending to keep the strap off the bag. If you look at the area between the velcro part and the snap you will see the strap actually contacts the bag. This is where I will say the edging works where it is but not around other parts of the bag. Since this bag has higher quality materials and I want to keep it as new as possible for as long as possible I will be purchasing the strap covers for added protection. Link is here: https://ghostgolf.com/collections/all-accessories/products/golf-cart-strap-sleeve. another reason why is the rub marks on my Ping Pioneer from the dirty, hard, scratchy cart straps... The clubs were set up in the bag opposite of what the suggested card showed since that is how I prefer them when the bag will be on a motorized cart. The bottom of the bag has a notch formed in it to accept a tab, shoe, horn, baseplate (whichever it is called, I have no idea) of the pushcart. This keeps the bag from sliding off the cart. The ghost on the bottom of the bag is a nice touch, almost scared the buggers outta me when I saw it!! Just kidding, I was not expecting that added accent. Once I had the bag attached, I walked around the back yard and hit bumps to see what would be happen. The bag moved about the amount of space that was between the tab at the bottom of the cart and the sides of that slot, no more than that. When I had it tipped back for the photo, the clubs stayed in the bad. They did slide out a smidge but nothing was on the ground. So to summarize; the bag fit well, did not move around much, clubs were easy to remove and put back, and it looked great. EasyPutter
Yesterday I took the Ghost Golf GT-14 Oreo Cart Bag to the golf course with me since it arrived only hours before, intending only to do the unboxing, which I did before headed to the first tee and just in time to make the tee time with Jim @The1C3man. It was a great last round with the Sun Mountain C130 Supercharged bag that has been in near continuous use since 2018. To give an idea of how momentous this change is for me, it would help to know that since the beginning of the 2020 golf season, when I started keeping track of 9 hole rounds (18 count as 2), the C130 has been with me for 410 rounds of golf in 5 years including yesterday's round. The packaging was truly exceptional from the graphics on the outside of the box to the box construction, how they made effort to ensure the gap in the top closure was filled with a heavy card. The big plastic bag the GT-14 was encased within was sufficient to assure it arrived well even if the box was soaked, and it was folded so opening the box at the top the inner bag was a liner that had to be opened like a reveal to the contents inside. The Rain Hood was in a similar plastic bag well sized to assure it too stayed well protected. All the pockets were filled with sealed air filled plastic packaging bags sufficient to retain the shape of each, and cardboard cutouts were in the large side pockets doing the same thing. Even the cardboard information card affixed to the top of the 14 way dividers top did it's job of preserving shape and quality appearance of the bag. That's Justin @just52887 second from the right at the top of the hill on the 1st tee box with his dad. Everything about the unboxing visually screamed quality and refined presentation to leave no doubt it was a top quality bag ready for the showroom display right out of the box. All zippers are top quality with pulls equally protected with plastic film. So far so good on the price point! Today the contents of the C130 went into the GT-14. Details to follow but a teaser is the bags are similar for size and therefore carry capacity, but there are differences. The wind has laid down and we are still getting small rain bands swinging through. I'll check on course closures later today. The bag is all dressed up with nowhere to go currently. Will the weight be a factor once loaded? Will you maximize the storage potential? Or stay minimalist? Do any of you use all jumbo grips, and will it be an issue if you do? Will it stand up on its own for range sessions? How well does it fit/work on a push cart? (Straps, access to pockets, etc) Looking forward to the photos too! Good morning @robperson, howya doin'? I haven't forgotten your questions. In fact, I have enough information to answer most of your questions so HERE WE GOOOO 1. Will weight be a factor when fully loaded? Uhmmmm maybe. That is a question for each person to figure out based off of their loadout. Earlier this morning I posted a video of my bag fully loaded for fall golf including wet weather gear. I weighed it a minute ago, 33 pounds with two 17oz water bottles included. The bag weighed the same as my last bag fully loaded. 2. Will you maximize storage or stay a minimalist? I only pack what is needed for the day. If the course is wet, like Pine Hills was yesterday, I will take my wet weather bottoms. I normally pack 6 balls but took a dozen yesterday because of how wet it was and the chance of loosing balls that plug too deep. 3. Do you use jumbo grips? No, I do not. I do, however, have mid-size grips with an extra wrap. This brings me to a good point about the bag and the slots. Each slot is encapsulated all the way to the bottom of the bag. The slots are narrow enough, but not too narrow, to reduce club movement which keeps the grips from pushing into each other on the bottom. I am posting a review of my first day with the bag later today, keep an eye out for that. Suffice is to say, no club entanglement issues yet. 4. Will it stand on its own for range sessions? Absolutely! This bag has a nice, wide base that keeps the bag planted. Take a look... That is in my back yard on uneven terrain. Stood like a statue. I gave it a few nudges and it returned to vertical. Takes a decent amount to push it over, that is, unless you have excess amount of water bottles in the front. If that is the case, it will not stand on it's own. I put four water bottles in the front where I had a dozen golf balls and it barely stood on it's own. Two bottles Not a problem. 5. How well does it fit on a push cart? I posted about this two days ago. The Ghost GT-14 fit my TourTrek like a glove. Solid mount, minimal movement. I think this is the link to that post... Access to the entire bag was unrestricted with my push cart, well it's my daughter's push cart but she isn't here so I guess that makes it mine...right? Hope this answers your questions. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with. Stay safe out there. Medfloat
Yesterday was the maiden voyage for the Ghost GT-14 Maverick golf bag. Mav revved up the engines and went supersonic getting to Pine Hills for a 1012 tee time. Almost reached ludicrous speed!!! Bag handled the trip well and made it to the cart unscathed. Sitting on the cart with all its newness was nice. Clean, vibrant, ready to go! Running the strap was a cinch. Get it?! Cinch?! The ability to lift the front pocket and run the strap underneath is great. Very easy to mount. The strap fed through the slots on the side of the bag without issue. The hardened edging did keep most of the strap off the bag but there was still some contact. Good idea to get those sleeves I mentioned before. I am waiting delivery and will show them in the near future. Couple of things caught my attention with regards to the bag mount. Note: I did not take photos of the concern and will make sure I do the next time I get out. Heck, I may just throw the bag in the truck and run the 5 minutes up to Pine Hills just for the photos. Yep, gunna do that then make another post to show y'all what I was looking at. Back to the concern. On the cart, there is a hard plastic arm that wraps around the back of the bag. The strap extends from one side of the arm and is cinched down to the bag then locked in place. I noticed the back of the bag had direct contact with this arm and would shift while driving the cart. This could cause premature wear on the bag in those areas. I am going to keep an eye on this and see if I can figure out a way to prevent this from happening. In hindsight, I should have taken the time to test the attachment to the cart but, ya know, pace of play and cloudy skies kinda pressured us to keep going. I will address these points in the near future. Also, I will take better photos too (still a rookie at this). Now for the actual use of the bag. First thing on most minds is probably "How was it taking out and returning the clubs to the bag?" Glad you asked! It was flawless during the round. The clubs pulled out of the bag without hanging up or having grips entangled. The continuous slots did their job preventing that issue. I have mid-sized grips with an extra wrap and had no issue. I will get with a friend that had jumbos and see how they work. Keep in mind, I did not have the cart mounting-strap super tight. Access to the pouches was direct and unencumbered. The magnetic cover did not torque, cant or pop open one time during the round. There were two water bottles in the cooler pouch about the bottom pouch that I left in there all day. They stayed cold for about 8 hours but presented an issue, later on that. The velcro for the gloves was strong and the gloves stayed put. I did not have the need to use the rain cover so that stayed packed. I think that covers the usage for now. If you have any...oh! silly me! What about carrying the bag you say. Well, the handle for the bag under the shoulder strap is placed so the bag is well balance with the top of the bag slightly higher than the bottom. Makes for easy carrying and load/unloading. As for the shoulder strap. The strap is adjustable, padded, and wide. Only issue is the material is quite smooth and slid a few times. If the bag is pushed around to your back instead of the side the strap holds well. Ok, back to the cooler pouch. The issues is, as mentioned before by Mike10487 (correct me if I am wrong), the pouch has no vent/drain holes. This can create an issue of excess moisture which can lead to mold. Either the pouch needs wiped dry with a towel or the it must be left open to air-dry. I opted to air-dry for now to see how well that works. Lastly, I am a club-cover guy. My irons are 8 years old and are in great shape. Having said that, the top of the Ghost bag is a bit narrower than my last one. This makes the covers overlap more which leads to them hanging up when returning the club. This has no impact on the slots of the bag, jus the covers. No covers, no problem. That's all for now. Any questions, comments, or suggestions just send them this way and I will be sure to respond as quick as I can. Until then, hit 'em straight and one-putt all day long. Medfloat
Ran back up to Pine Hills about 15 minutes ago. Course still looks great after 24 hours, hopefully you can see that in the following pics and vids. The reason I ran up there was to get better photos of an observation I had and to see if it can be a cause of concern in the future. This issue was the back of the bag rubbing on the support arm of the cart strap. In the video below you can see where the bag contacts this arm. The area of the bag is made of nylon (?) without a backing. IMG_8143[1].MOV You can see the contact point where I am pointing. You can also see that the car strap is NOT laced through the slot in the bag on the left (latch) side. I change that in a minute. Here is the view from the seat side of the cart... IMG_8144[1].MOV I indicate the contact point form this angle as well. The bag was strapped in a little tighter than I had it yesterday but still was able to move around, sliding on the support arm. I, then, change the strap setup so the cart strap was thread through the left slot. Take a peek at the area just right of the strap latch. You can see that the strap slot is in front and to the right of the latch. It is pulled away from the bag stressing the attachment points of the slot stitching, and it bunches up when the bag moves. Plus, the bag is held out and away from the support arm for the cart strap allowing the bag to move relatively easily. The strap was cinched fairly tightly, I did not want to go any tighter due to the stress placed on the slot material. IMG_8151[1].MOV You can see how easily the bag moves in the video above and how the slot material bunches up with that movement. My suggestion is to run the strap through the side of the bag opposite the latch, and under the front pouch. The seems to be the most sturdy mount to the cart. As for the contact area with the support arm, I will be watching that and give updates as the review moves forward. Oh, when I cinched the strap tighter I tried pulling out clubs. Still no issue with binding of grips. The photo below shows the issue I was having with club covers hanging up. Not a big deal... Finally, I would like to thank Pine Hills for allowing me to borrow a cart for the test and photos. They even staged the cart for me so the backdrop was just right! Take a look at the Ghost GT-14 on the flight deck preparing for takeoff...Maverick ready for action! rkj427
Just MY opinion, but I think having the area of the bag which contacts a riding cart bracket made of nylon material rather than the synthetic leather would be better at making sure that the potential for damage to the material due to contact is negligible. The nylon material would withstand those motions better from a durability standpoint. Another "safeguard" or "alternative" would be to place a towel between the bag and bracket before securing it tight with the strap. Dan1993
It would have been nice if they had done what the C-130 does and has the rubber guards in the back, as well as the cart straps to help prevent movement.
