I’m having the hardest time processing my round today. I’m in the still-haven’t-broke-90 club. Shot a 42 on the front, and followed it with a 48 on the back 🤦‍♂️. Good things first: one birdie, six pars, three bogeys. Short game around the green was great, thanks in part to some of the things I’ve read on this forum in the past week and thanks to a friend that pushed me to use different clubs. I had 31 putts, including 7 one putts. First day with the new clubs, which were awesome, but also didn’t trust my distances.
Now for the trouble. 7 doubles and a triple. The driver was a real problem today and I was late to recognize it. I had 2 FIR, one of which was a 4-iron. Both of those holes resulted in doubles, because of shanked full swing wedges. Two penalties on the back due to drives, and another three or four where the only play was a punch out back to the fairway.
I played 10 holes at 2 over, and 8 holes at 17 over. Such a frustrating game

Closest I’ve been today! 130 yd PW to an uphill green. Couldn’t actually see where or what it did on the green, but fun to walk up to see this!

Good morning! Half day at work today and just secured a 1:00 tee time. Weather up here in Chicago should be beautiful today! Happy Friday everyone!

Played another 9 at the par 3 course today with my dad and sons. Hard to top days like that. Didn’t play particularly well, 3 GIR and 0 pars to go with 8 bogeys and a double. Most exciting thing today was the 10yo tied me for the round, by far his best showing.
I’ve been playing around with AimPoint in practice, but feel really self conscious doing it on the course. However, I committed to it for the last several holes. My distance control is what needs the most attention but I find that when I trust the aiming I’m able to focus a little more on the distance.

I was/am in a similar boat. Mine were quite a bit older than yours. Here’s how I went about mine. I ranked driver and putter as most important, so those were the first two I targeted. I did a fitting at a PXG store to help me get an idea for what I needed. PXG ran a pretty good Black Friday sale last year where I picked up the driver. I’d periodically check at the local Dick’s Sporting Goods for pre-owned putters and actually landed a LAB Mezz.1 for about half price. Wedges were next up and I’ve bought a wedge on eBay, and one on clearance at PGATSS (when new models release). Found my irons on eBay. If you limit to auctions there’s potential for better deals but there’s a lot fewer, especially if you look at some of the DTC brands (mine were Sub 70), just because those get overlooked by a lot of people.
I still need to get around to the fairway woods! Hope this helps!

This summer marks my 50th year of playing regulation size courses.  I had a few years of par 3 golf using cut down clubs but 50 years ago i graduated to regular length clubs...a few at a time!  😀. I say a few at a time because i was buying individual irons from Hermans a sporting goods store in the 70's.  They were all makes and models but consistently all were extemely hard to hit since they were thin enough to cut an apple.  The high $ club in those racks would have been the Sam Snead Blue Ridge.  So that is the first in line in the pic below.
I played with that mis matched set for 3 or 4 years before buying my first matched set from the asst pro where i worked cleaning clubs and picking range balls.  Wilson Staff Dynapower.  I was in heaven after the Hermans specials I had been trying to hit.
A few years later i tried a set of Lynx USA irons that a member was moving on from.  He generously gave them to me when he upgraded to Wilson Staff clubs.  Lynx was supposed to be an easy to hit club but not for me.  That experiment only lasted a couple months.  Maybe if i had paid for the clubs i would had suffered longer but thankfully it was an easy decision to go back the the Dynapowers for a few more years.
Next up was another set bought from one of the asst pros at the club, Palmer First Flights.  Another muscle back blade and this was a FULL set from 1i - sw plus a fairway wedge.  The fairway wedge was a sw loft that had a lot less bounce than the "sand" sand wedge.
I played those for about 12 years before moving on to the Tour Cavity irons.  My first new clubs and they were not blades.  These were a Tom Wishon design from Golfsmith.  I believe i bought those i the mid 90's.  I played them through about 3 shaft changes up until 2019.
After going for a fitting i bought a used set of Mizuno JPX 900's.  2* flat with PX LZ 6.0 steel shafts.  I am still playing these and have been very happy with the conistently solid contact.
Who knows what may be next... 🤔

Came home from church this morning and hit some balls in the garage. I’ve got a heavy canvas drop cloth that I hit into which has a vertical seam that I use as a target line. Worked on face control by trying to hit one right, one left and one straight at my target line. Checked out a couple videos from AMG’s YouTube that @Riley24 made me aware of. Couple things in the explanations just clicked with me. Felt like my eyes were opened lol! Hit some more balls this evening and it was the most pure, flush, stripe show (for 6 feet) I’ve experienced.

Opened the new (to me) clubs when I got home from work and had to stop at the range to try them out. Hit 5-7 balls with each of 4-AW to get a feel for distances and tendencies.
