  1. I didn't take Rory's comments as a chase for distance but a chase for more speed. The benefit he saw at the US Open was his play out of rough; more speed and steeper AoA minimized the penal nature of the rough.
  2. My wife and I are fairly handy. Our fathers fixed everything. I was his helper....held the light, Handed him tools, and got in the way[emoji3]. Our approach to projects is to evaluate the worst thing that could happen and that helps us determine what we will take on. YouTube is a great tool. Last YouTube fix was to fix the washing machine agitator. Was a quick fix that cost $5. Hate to see what it would have cost to get someone to bring in a repairman. The other thing that is needed is access to tools. I had basic tools but had access to lots of stuff Between my father and father in law.
  3. This is my understanding based on info from my putting instructor and watching some if the Edel videos. If you Do a search for linear stroke you can find an audio clip from David edel. David; could be others, seems to classify stroke as linear or radial. When you make your stroke and use your shoulders the butt of the grip generally points at a single point like your belly button. Player focus is probably on swinging the head of the putter. In a linear stroke the hands are in Control and the butt of the grip moves more left to right and the shaft stays more perpendicular to the ground. This is why Edel putts a lot of the fitting focus on the weights under the hands. Player focuses on hand movement over putter movement. Again this is my interpretation of the information i have gathered on the putting stroke.
  4. I went to the website and under customize it only show the strokelab grey. You could call and ask or swap the shafts.
  5. Sounds like you got a good fitting and learned a lot about your stroke.
  6. Ive tried them as well. I can make them work, but nothing radically better than the putter in my bag now. The toe up design is just very radical and since so few people make it the average golfer just thinks gimmick. Edel can be successful because of the who fitting process and because he is more of a boutique brand and people seek him out.
  7. Here are my thoughts. Everyone's putting stroke is built around choices they make. We pick a setup position/posture, we pick how we hold the putter, and we we pick how we power the stroke. Based on these choices the putter moves through the stroke and the putter has some amount of rotation. Putters are designed to help us move the putter in the way our stroke needs. Per Edel, the torque balanced putter is designed for someone that uses their hands to move the putter or a linear stroke. If a torque balanced putter helps you start the ball on your intended line and roll the ball a specific distance it is the right putter for you.
  8. Sorry to hear this; sometimes we just need a break from the game for some unknown period of time. Hopefully you will regain the love for the game again.
  9. I am like you, I don't feel the shaft or club during the swing.
  10. You can find it for under $200 easily. I got mine for $91 on eBay since it was cut down fairly short but to the length I needed. .
  11. Play what works for you. You can be a scratch golfer and play SGI type clubs. I don’t believe a particular iron type will make you a better player. Want to improve ball striking, take lessons and practice. As for the zx7, the poor performance may be spec related....different shaft, different weighting, different lie angles.
  12. Per my discussions with MGS they are supposed to be stock since they are in most wanted testing. Just checked the PXG site and they are listed as up-charge. Guess I will let them know.
  13. Yes it was an official. Should he have been paying attention yes. He was standing there because they put the volunteers in those spots because that is where the players hit their ball and they are there to help find the balls.
  14. It is coming out soon; new product. It was/is embargoed but because pictures were already released elsewhere they allowed MGS to show photos. Until the testing gets closer to the summer there are almost always embargoed products in the testing.
  15. I’ve been hitting the gen 4s with steel fiber; guess those are available this year and it is a great feeling combo.
  16. Here is my input: I wouldn’t measure until you figure out setup. Your setup determines length and lie not static measurements. Video won’t be that helpful to select a putter. To determine setup find the position that lets you see the line correctly from setup posting. I am going to be lazy and have you search YouTube for these videos. Search for “be better golf” and Mike Malaska. They did some videos where mike explains exactly what I am talking about. Once you know your setup the next step is putter. The key ideas for the putter is that you can start it on intended line and that you can control distance. You can do. 1 of 2 things when selecting a putter. You can pick a putter and figure out how to use it; basically adapt yourself to the putter. The second is you find a putter that meets your tendencies. Tendencies are the biases and results of the choices we make in the putting stroke. The way I was taught to select a putter was to roll the ball over a dime 16” in front of a ball using different stroke lengths. The putter that helps you do that consistently is the putter that fits your stroke. Yes you can nick the edge but you really want the ball to roll over the middle. You could also use gates (the Visio golf site has the distances and gate widths to check how much offline you would be; know this information ) or a narrow yardstick. Try different styles, weights, grips, offset, hosel types and positions, etc. notice I didn’t say toe hang; that is simply a byproduct of the above. Assuming you are right handed, If you miss right try a heavier putter or more offset. If you miss left try the less weight or more heel shafted. There will probably be multiple combinations that work so your next step is to figure out which one you can control distance with. This is where the video may help. Do a slo-mo of launch to see if the ball has any backspin off the face. You can look at “the putting engineer” on Instagram and he has some videos about this as well as some good drills to practice using everyday items. Good luck and let us know how you are doing in your search for the perfect putter.
  17. Here is the one Casey was using: https://www.instagram.com/graingolf/
  18. keep in mind that newer persimmons probably work better with todays swings; you really have to change how you swing with the older persimmons.
  19. What is your strategy for figuring this out?
  20. The KBS shaft isn't on a lot of people's radar; I just don't think KBS promotes it enough. I have the shaft in my driver and I agree with you on it being a great shaft.
  21. Spent some time after testing today to work on the iron swing. Slowly getting better; contact is moving toward the center and I am getting the face position in a better spot at impact. I decided to give the smartball a try to see if it provided any benefit. I was really impressed with the aid and it seemed to put my in good positions during the swing. Based on how the swing is progressing I am excited to see how I do next time I am able to get to the course.
  22. Project X is in the game. They have 2 graphite shafts; the Catalyst is the line offering the heavier weights. I haven't dived down into their offerings but had an opportunity to hit the MMT shafts and they are really good.
  23. The one Paul Casey hit had a steel shaft.
